I went in to sell a diamond engagement ring, knowing that diamonds have gone down in value in recent years. I went on Thursday because that is when the specialist (Collin I think was his name) was there who could evaluate the ring and offer me a price. He said hello and asked if I had an idea of what I wanted. I didn't want to give any information to him because I wanted to see what he said. The man took my ring, disappeared in the back for five minutes, came back out and said diamonds had gone down in value and he could only offer me $50, but would give me $150 for the gold rings. I said thank you and left, suspecting the ring was worth more. I then went to Marry Me Jewelers in Countryside. Gino Senior invited me to sit down, educated me on the 4 C's, involving me in the evaluation process and then offered me a very fair price (several hundreds higher!) for the diamond ring. I will never go back to Cottage Hill simply because I felt so dismissed and disrespected. I have shopped there before and loved the other employees/jewelry (including a beautiful amethyst necklace they designed for me) -but this condescending employee has changed my mind about Cottage Hill forever. How disappointing! Do better. read more

My experience at cottage hill, was not a good one. Allow me to explain why, I contacted the store about purchasing an engagement ring that was pretty much brand new. They were aware of the ring i was looking to sell before and acted interested of course. They asked me to come on so of course I did. However as soon as the appraiser started looking at the ring which I believe was one of the owners, but in any event. He immediately started in on there normal tactics and well the bs sales tactics. Which that's ok, but they also use sales tactics wich is usually a mix of dishonest tactics, mixed with disingenuous monologes, a little condescension and a nice side of bs. What do I mean? Well Allow me to explain. I have no problem with them trying to make money that is not the issue. It starts off by then wanting you to come into their store for them to assess the ring. That's fair enough however that is just a what I consider slightly dishonest sales tactic. I had talked on the phone to them multiple times letting them know the exact ring I had all the details of it that I was interested in possibly selling. Of course they act very interested I also sent them all the information about the ring cut Clarity all the ratings kind of diamond it is which it was a 4 Carat white gold 14 karat white gold ring engagement ring. Well unfortunately after my fiance or girlfriend said yes two and a half weeks later it was over. So the ring was only a few months old high quality ratings 4 Carat Marquee cut. However the ring was a lab grown diamond which cost me almost $10,000 a few months before the ring was perfect condition brand new but I was unable to return it to Rogers and Hollins because it didn't pass the 30 day mark anyway when I get to the store he starts looking at it and immediately starts criticizing it even though the cut Clarity color and everything else was of the highest ratings and I had the documentation back that up he then let me know that oh this is a lab diamond yeah they're not really worth much I mean I can maybe give you $200 for it but that's about it. He went on to put down lab cut diamonds saying they're not really worth much. However at their store and on their website they advertise and promote all their beautiful lab grown diamonds and talk about how they are just the same as mine diamonds chemically speaking there's no difference they're great but he thought my 4 Carat Marquee diamond engagement ring was worth nothing. His excuse was well that's a custom-made ring so I would have a hard time selling it what he didn't know is it was not a custom-made ring it was right there in the showroom floor of Rogers and Hollands so okay baby lab diamonds are are not his cup of tea however when you look around the store they sell many lab grown diamonds some one, two karat even less selling for 3 , 4, 5 6,000 dollars or more. Lab grown diamonds smaller and not as nice as mine. For a lot of money. My point is after he went off saying he can only give me maybe $200 for my 4 Carat Marquee ring because lab diamonds are really not too valuable according to him but then in his store he's selling diamonds half the size of mine for almost as much as I paid for mine. So basically after he gave me his speech about lab diamonds not being worth anything he has plenty of lab diamonds in his store for sale for large amounts Rings half the carat weight of mine but almost the same price. I was not asking for the full price I paid for it I wasn't trying to make money I was just trying not to lose any more than I already had. So the more of the story is I understand business you want to make money fine but if I would have sold him my 4-carat diamond ring for $200 it would have been on sale at his store the next day for probably 7 or $8,000. So while his website for his business speaks of lab diamonds very very highly exactly the same as mine diamonds as far as the chemical structure and how great they were and how they are real diamonds he told me how my ring was worth nothing because it's lab diamond even though it's 4 Carat white gold pristine brand new diamond ring. He didn't have to buy my ring but telling me my ring is worth nothing while he sells lab diamonds for very high prices that are not even close to the value of the one I had and he just basically told me my ring was worth nothing while standing next to lab diamonds with extremely high price tags that we're not even as big as my diamond I get business but basically very dishonest and full of it because he wouldn't be selling lab grown diamonds some 0.25 carat for 3,000 or more. While telling me my ring is worth nothing so if you decide to give Cottage Hill your business I would learn as much as you can about what you are buying because I would not trust anything they tell you they were selling cubic zirconian rings in that store for more than he offered me if lab diamonds are worth nothing you sure have a lot of them in your store I don't care if you don't wan read more

I took my Seiko watch in for cleaning and to find and correct the reason why the timepiece would stop and start. The watchmaker found the fault; the "calendar gear" caused the problem, it took weeks for a replacement gear to arrive. When it was installed, and kept for several more days to insure that corrected the fault, I was called. Having already paid for the cleaning I expected an additional,charge for the gear. We were met by a woman who never asked us our name, what the occasion was, our price range, or anything about what brought us into the store. She repeatedly pushed a ring on us we expressed we didn't want. We found one we did want, started to write the check for which she said she couldn't accept since we were first time customers. The shop is family owned and the 4 sons and the father, work there. The others who work there are as friendly and helpful, too. For watches that either myself or my family plan to keep, we have lifetime batteries, which is a dirtcheap service of a 1 time cost. For costume watches, I'm charged the exact same price everyone else is charging and I know my watch is in good hands. What's nice is, Cottage Hill Diamonds won't charge me if they see that the watch is on its last leg and isn't going to show the correct time for much longer. Same for jewelry repair. Quality is tops! They have been family owned for decades. Quite honestly I expected to encounter an old stuffy guy who thinks he knows everything because he's been in business for so long. We decided to got there because the rings I saw on line were gorgeous and unique (which I what I was looking for). When we arrive we were greeted right away and only had to wait a couple minutes to be taken care of. Drew was awesome, and he's not old or stuffy! Ha! He is very knowledgeable, polite, friendly, has a great sense of humor, and was not pushy by any means. Right off the bat I saw two rings that I really liked, and they didn't need to be customized! Needless to say we were very excited and didn't need to keep looking, I just needed to decide which one I wanted! After we decided which ring we wanted and were filling out the paper work, Drew's dad came in the room to introduce himself...very nice touch! It took several weeks for the ring to be ready, however, they were able to get it to us in time for a family party we were to attend, so we could show it off to my husbands family! My husband bought my original engagement ring at Cottage Hill Diamonds, and it was beautiful. Even after a few years with rare cleanings it sparkled so brilliantly it would catch anyone's eye. After a few years and our financial situation improving significantly we decided to upgrade. They gave me 100% of my original diamond's value to put towards the new ring, and I was able to pick out exactly what I wanted. What I love about Cottage Hill is that while I could have gone to Rogers and Hollands and gotten a larger diamond for my dollar, Cottage Hill's diamonds are hands down the most beautiful I have seen. I would take a perfect, flawless diamond at 1 carat over a flawed 1.5 carat any day of the week. After months on my finger it still shines like new, and I get compliments everywhere I go on how beautiful it is. My sales rep, Joe Cimino, is someone that I plan to do business with for the rest of his career as long as he's with Cottage Hill. Poor Joe took many phone calls from me asking when my ring would be ready (I couldn't wait!) and was extremely pleasant to deal with. We went in 45 minutes before closing the day we picked out my ring, and he kept the shop open at least a good hour late to process our transaction. The ring I bought was mounted with a round stone, but he took the time for me to design it and place a perfect asscher cut diamond instead that was exactly what I wanted; I will never part with this ring. If you think bigger is better, go ahead and go to Kay Jewelers or Rogers and Hollands - I promise after a few months on your finger it will be dull and you won't love it as much as you did the first day you bought it. After doing online research I decided on Cottage Hill Diamonds based on their reviews but more importantly was the owners background. I was replacing my wife's diamond and buying her a 25th anniversary band which I needed both in 2 days. They worked with me on the best quality and size of diamond and band and had it ready in 2 days. Collin and his dad Kurt the owner both gave me great service and the price I believe was reasonable. Tough to know if you received a good deal because everyone knows a jeweler and everyone can save you money. It's like buying a car. He said "I'll make it right"....and boy was Andrew Hill true to his words! Here's my story.... I brought my watch to their location in Elmhurst because I learned of their lifetime battery program - basically pay $100 and your battery will be replace for as long as you own your watch. Sounded like a great deal to me. When I was having my watch battery changed, I realized that the watch was never serviced or cleaned - my watch was WAAAAY over due for this - I love it, it's a nice watch and it needed to have service after daily used for 5 years. After sending out my watch, I did have problems with the piece keeping time correctly once it was returned. I came back to Cottage Hill Jewelers where Andrew Hill said the following words to me- "I'll do whatever it takes to make it right." And he did just that! The watch needed to go out 2 other times until the correct and specialized repair person was found all at no additional charge. Most stores would have given up and just refunded the money spent by the customer to make a problem like this "just go away", but not Andrew. It was a personal quest for him to make the watch "right" even to the point of having it worn in the store and monitored for a week before calling me to pick up my watch. By the way...this watch was not purchased at Cottage Hill, and I was treated like a long standing client of theirs...it's so rare to be treated like a long standing customer when you just walked in for a good deal on a watch battery change.
