Don't go to him for sale of estate jewelry. I brought in an appraisal from another reputable jeweler and he told me it was not worth a fraction of what was appraised. He was pompous, dismissive, and made me feel like I was using his precious time. Went to another jeweler and got the appraised value. Don't trust him. Get other opinions. read more

I had my fiancee's wedding ring done here, as well as had her engagement ring appraised. They do good work, but I have found their customer service lacking. They needed the engagement ring to model the wedding band after, and Mr. Miller said it would take two days. Over a week later I call to ask when we can pick it up and they told me that they still needed it. Normally this wouldn't be that big of a deal but my fiancee was looking forward to showing off the ring on her bachelorette party the next day. I asked why it's taken so long when Mr. Miller said it would only take two days. I was told they had been busy. In other words, our business wasn't as important as others. They apologized profusely but that didn't fix the problem that they didn't view working on our ring as important as other projects. If there is ever time sensitive work, make sure you stay on top of them instead of trusting them to stick to their word like I did. read more

As I start my watch journey I have been experimenting with brands and sizes my my petite wrist. In my endeavors I found myself at this store trying on Grand Seiko watches. Primarily the infamous snowflake. During my time I met the owner of the store in which he spent the entire duration selling me the snowflake and bad talking not only other brands like patek, rolex and tudor and other local stores. Nothing wrong with selling tactics to your own design although not only me but his sales man were both extreamly uneducated about watch brands and the hobby yet talked like they were even going so far to belittle me and tell me my opinions were wrong. The owner even told me he could get me rolexs 40% off retail price. The owner also was bragging about a $10M necklace. Very nasty encounter. Will never be going back read more

Wow, took an engagement ring to be appraised and possibly sell. They said it was less than a carat (it was weighed at 1.1 carat, not by them). Then they stated that it had bad color and had a major flaw. (Best I can do would be $500). Fast forward, just returned from jewelers row in Chicago where I sold the ring to a WHOLESALER for $1800. I would never recommend nor shop these rip off artists. read more

My husband bought my engagement ring here and Rick and Mike were wonderful to work with. I had looked at rings before my husband had bought my engagement ring and I felt very comfortable with them and trusted them. I didn't feel like we would get ripped off. After purchasing my engagement ring, we chose to purchase both of our wedding bands here and I also bought my husband a ring as a surprise gift for the morning of the wedding. The only problem we encountered was that after a few months of wearing my engagement ring, a tiny pave diamond had fallen out of the side detail of my tacori ring, so I brought it in to MJ Miller, and they replaced it the same day. Even met with the owner and he had a long friendly conversation about his hunting dogs and he wasn't hurried to have us out of his office. This might be the most luxurious Jewelry store in Barrington. Saying they have diamonds in every color of the rainbow would be an understatement. Realistically they have diamonds in every color of Pantone and beyond. The staff is very friendly and more than happy to answer any questions you have. read more

Horrible customer service from the floor staff. The jeweler, Peter is a nice person and the only one working there with customer service skills. The owner will tell people what they want to hear but will not be able to follow through. All the sales people I encountered were rude and disrespectful. I spent too much time here and noticed that if you are wealthy then you'll be treated better. But if you are upper middle class, please spend your time and money somewhere else. read more

Bad experience and customer service!! I took a ring here so see what they would offer me for the diamonds and gold. They boast on their huge sign outside that they buy diamonds and I assumed they would be reputable, because, hey, it's Barrington. Wrong... this place is nothing more than a fancy pawn shop!! Their offer for my "previously appraised at $3500 ring" was $200!! Unreal...leave this place to the wealthy, who apparently don't care if they get scammed! read more

If you like looking at a great variety of gemstones and being amazed at the prices some people will pay for their bobbles then I recommend you add this to your sight seeing bucket list; the admission is free. You may also get a little education on Jewelry if you get the right staff member; otherwise browse on your own. If you bring in Jewelry that was not purchased from them for repair or to sell be prepared for a harsh review, every other stores products are low quality too them. Prices are inflated and quality is over rated, along with service unless you have spent a fortune with them in the past. If you are not judged to be a person of wealth expect to wait many months for Jewelry repair that would have taken a few days or weeks else where. read more

I went with a diamond ring recently purchased at the estate sale to get a quick opinion regarding the diamonds. The guy looked at it and said that the diamonds were "bad" and then wanted to buy it for pennies. Eventually I had it looked by a professional jeweler and the diamonds were good quality. For years I have wanted a Mother's ring however since my sons were born in June and October I thought their birthstones would not look right together in a ring. I went to several jewelry stores without a lot of success in getting someone to help me with options. I went to MJ Miller & Company and Lynnette was incredibly helpful in providing me with multiple options of birthstones. After I decided what I wanted I called back several days later and asked if I could add diamonds to the ring from a pair of earrings I had. Lynnette was very accommodating when my son and I went in with the diamonds to see all of the stones together. I now have a one-of-a-kind ring that is beautiful and I am so proud to wear.
