Instead, they attempted to substitute a random replacement watch from their inventory, which I declined. My original items--one of which held significant sentimental value--were not interchangeable. More concerning is their handling of the claim: The shipment was insured for $600, which matched the verbal appraisal provided by their associate prior to authorizing the repair, yet they attempt to minimize the value after the fact I was informed by FedEx that their claim was denied, and they have not provided a clear explanation or supporting documentation Responsibility has been deflected rather than addressed, leaving me no choice but to pursue legal remedies At no point did I control the shipping, carrier, or insurance--this was entirely managed by their business, despite all shipping costs being passed on to the customer. He also replaced the mainspring just as a matter of course (which he said he was going to do, and indeed, as Omega always does when you send the watch to them, no matter what). He quoted a figure, I gave him a deposit, and he gave me a date of two weeks out (which is awesome for a C/O/A job on a 140-part movement). I later phoned in that I wanted an Omega buckle on the new wrist strap. He tracked one down! And the balance? Exactly what he promised, even though he replaced a part that he didn't initially see was faulty. He returned all the replaced parts to me. This man took care of this watch as if it were his own. Next up for him is my grandmother's mantel clock. If you take a glance around his shop, you'll see the man knows a thing or two about mantel clocks as well. I 100% got my money's worth from this experience.

Chicago opened it up for me while I was there and found a gnarly rubber gasket that I had probably messed up myself trying to wind a battery powered watch. The technician should rightly have called me an idiot but instead just fixed it in 2 minutes, He did not want to charge me anything. I was there during a sidewalk sale, and they had $2 costume jewelry out front; a seasonal red/white/blue display, and vintage purses / hats in addition to jewelry. Jewelry is arranged by type; there's a large selection of pearls; dozens of cameos; and, when I was there, a large display of Bakelite and other vintage plastic bangles (with a magazine article on how not all vintage plastic jewelry is Bakelite). Some southwest/turquoise; a bunch of diamonds; lots of colored stones; and even some enamel pieces. If you don't see what you're looking for, ask; I wanted to see amber and they brought out a bunch, and they also had additional mourning jewelry in the back. The people serving me were very helpful, finding bracelets in my size, helping with tricky catches, etc. and they knew their stuff (what era jewelry was from; no, we don't have jet but we have bog oak...). Several customers were obviously regulars; one approached me out of nowhere to tell me how good the staff were to deal with. Prices are very reasonable; I was very pleased with the vast selection, spent less on a couple of pieces than I expected, and went home with some treasures. This is on the main street right next to the Catlow theater; there is street parking and 1 hour and 3 hour unmetered parking a block away at the Jewel.
