I made a fairly last minute decision to camp here on my way back to Nashville since:…read more-it's conveniently close to I-40 -had availability -I had a coupon -familiarity with the area -somewhat close to the AT This seasonal campground offers RV sites, camping cabins, and tent sites for rent, and amenities include a camp store, a nice bathhouse, laundry facilities, an in-ground pool, sand volleyball court, playground, pavilion, river access, free WiFi, and is dog friendly. (There's also a rafting company on site on the other side of the property.) On the day of my reservation, I received a call from one of staff advising they were closing the office/store a little early, and gave instructions on the self check-in process which was seamless. Since I didn't have the full catalogue of camping gear in tow, I reserved a camping cabin. These cabins face the Pigeon River, have two windows, electricity, four bunk beds (three twin, one double -- but bring your own bedding since it's not provided), a table and bar stool, a heat/air unit, a mini fridge, a microwave, and a broom and dustpan. On the porch outside I found two chairs and a small table. Directly in front of the cabin (which is the side that faces the river) are a grill and fire ring. I was able to park my vehicle next to the steps leading up into the cabin. Just a short walk away in the bathhouse, each of the bathrooms requires a code for entry. I counted six of them, three of which I had access to via my code, but there may be more elsewhere. Each of three I saw were equipped with a flushing toilet, toilet paper, a sink, mirror, hand soap, hand towels, a bench, and a tiled shower. It's your own private, fully functional bathroom (when you're using it, that is). Bring your own towels and toiletries, and you're set! Oh yeah! This is glamping for sure! The one immediate drawback I noted was the interstate noise. 40 is right there, and loud. Inside the cabin with the air unit fan running, I couldn't hear it very much, but outside...ugh. The second thing I was surprised about was the office/store. I read they're open everyday from 0800-1700. I totally get closing early in the afternoon, but the office/store literally was not opened at all during my entire visit. I was disappointed. Fortunately, there's another store nearby where I was able to procure firewood. I like this place a lot aside from the two above-mentioned items, and I would consider camping here again despite them...especially for the right price.

Super super friendly family we actually are going to attempt to make reservations for this weekend…read morefor last-minute getaway as a family as a disabled person with type one diabetes. I had a really difficult day that day. We had bad storms and we don't live far from the campground, a couple hours south, but between the storm that not down a tree in our yard, I helped clean up and struggling with my diabetes, and then as I was driving North, a bad lightning storm I wasn't getting any service. I didn't know what to do or where to go. I ended up not spending the night after all, but I can say that communications were wonderful and the facility is beautiful. I did my research before I made a reservation for myself and I was going alone and I haven't been anywhere by myself in 10 years especially since I've become disabled so I ended up having to make other accommodations for the night and didn't get the pleasure of this visit but hopefully there's gonna be something open this weekend and I couldn't have Astro better communication. I can't. I did try to communicate late at night in late into the evening, but they do close their office at five and because of struggles with my diabetes which they have to be dealt with. I can't help that and then the storms here I got a very late start and once I was on my way, and I ran into this lightning storm I had no reception and no visibility. My GPS wasn't working correctly with no reception and this is also in an area that was affected by hurricane Helene and there was flash flooding warnings on the way up to the campground so I did what was the safest best thing for me but I just wanted to say that the prices are wonderful and fair. The facilities is beautiful. The family is kind and very communicative and I will definitely update if we are able to get a spot there this weekend so that our family can go and going with My Husband. I won't have the inability to take care of everything on my Own due to my unique situation so we'll actually make it this time lol I would highly recommend and also I did make it up there the following morning for my getaway and we were all talking about the lightning storm at a couple of places that I went and I was saying what it happened and I didn't make it to my destination where I was gonna stay and everybody that was local was like oh that's the best one out of all of the campgrounds around here if you come back, you need to stay there for sure you missed out and even though you couldn't help it, you know they're an awesome family and they have the nicest place so I did have a good word from local people too, so I'm gonna get a highly recommend for now. I'm sure it will only improve after this weekend. Hopefully there's a spot for us.!

It had a coupon for $12 off!! We called on Tuesday night about 7:45 (they closed at 9) and talked to Teresa who was able to schedule our foursome for a trip at 2:00 on Wednesday. She was so helpful and gave us some tips for travel to Hartford. Once we got there we checked in with a very competent and thorough young lady. We took a short bus ride to the "put in" point. On the 10 minute ride some of the guides performed fun comedic routines which kept us from thinking about how hot we were on a bus with no AC ( except open windows), decked out in life jackets and helmets while holding our paddles upright. :-) We got paired with a river rafting guide named Brantley. He gave us great paddling instructions before we even entered the raft. Since we had all been river rafting before, he explained that the trick to having a more exciting trip is to synchronize your paddle strokes. We had a great time with Brantley. We truly appreciate his concern for our "fun factor" and especially our safe trip down the river.
