The Garlic Farm is a small family owned farm and farm stand located in West Granby. They specialize…read morein, you guessed, garlic and other vegetables. They have been open for three decades. They offer German white hardneck garlic, seed garlic, garlic bulbs, and garlic braids. The farm stand is in an old tobacco barn. I went a couple times and thought it was awesome. The prices were great and they had a huge variety of produce. One time, they posted on social that the flowers were free to pick. If you love fresh produce and supporting a small business, I highly recommend.

But the end of their season comes with a fantastic bonus for anyone that can get over to West Granby before October 12. That bonus is as many flowers as possible that you can cut and take home from their acres of flower farms. For Free. We saw people out there today with shopping bags, and laundry baskets scooping up their share of gorgeous flowers. Although some of the flowers (especially the sunflowers were way past peak), rest assured there were a ton of gorgeous fresh flowers representing every color of the rainbow still available. We cut and took home enough to fill three vases, of which we kept one and donated the other two to the local Senior Center to brighten the desks of two administrators. So, if you are in the area and have a hankering for some free flowers, set your navigation system to West Granby and enjoy. Just do it before October 12.

I just enjoyed an afternoon at the festival. Great food, fun music and so much for the kids from…read morebounce houses to dancing. The trucks I experienced: The Grub Guru 3.5 star - the gen gau was amazing, crispy and sweet. I had wanted orange chicken, but they didnt have it despite it being on the menu. It is an Indian truck and the rice was listed as fried rice but it was clearly basmati. It was not good. I have to say their drink prices are some of the most reasonable at the festival. Ts Jerky House 5 star - the bbq sundae with cornbread, beans, and smokey brisquet was amazing. Topped with crispy onions for texture. Elote corn 3 star - I tried the buttered lime but there was no lime. The corn was definitely best of the season. Shitakaberries 5 star - we opted for something sweet and this was great. We got the reverse tiger, dark chocolate with white drizzle. 7 bucks for 5 berries on a stick. It was definetly about the experience. TC Scoops 4 stars - we each got a single scoop and a topping for 4 dollars. It was just ok, but my bf loved the cherry. Reds 5 star - really personable. Reasonably priced, especially the drinks, which is what drew me there. He realized he ignored me and gave me the drink free of charge. A definite place for customer service.

The Connecticut Renaissance Faire - Pineapple Dole Whip (The Roost)

The food is priced according to the kind of event it is. There are people in costumes and people without. If you don't want to dress up you don't need to and they don't make you feel out of place for being in regular clothes. The faire is a great day of family fun doing something a little different from your ordinary festivals. I highly recommend this faire over "the other one" in Massachusetts.

This year was my first time attending the Connecticut Renaissance Faire in Lebanon, CT. The faire…read moreis open on the weekends from around September thru October, check their website for current info. Each weekend has a theme, we happen to go during the Roses & Romance weekend. It was a hike, about a 45min drive, to literally the middle of nowhere. Luckily, our GPS didn't steer us wrong and found the faire grounds. We arrived early and got a good parking spot. We were told that parking could get hectic because there is another lot that you would need to take a shuttle. I was very impressed with the selection of food, drinks, venders, activities, performers, and events. There were a lot of folks (guest and faire cast) that dressed up in medieval garb, role playing and spoke old English. From kings, queens, fairies, pirates, jesters, folks really got into it with extravagant costumes. There were stages throughout the grounds with many performances like singing, fire eating/dancing, jousting, and improv. It was so immersive and fun. You could also try archery and axe throwing for a small fee. My main mission at the faire was to find Steepy Hollow's booth, one of my favorite local tea venders. I'm happy to report that I came home with tea to replenish my stash. There were other great booths with handmade trinkets, leather goods, jewelry, clothing, baked goods, and so much more that fit perfectly in this renaissance world. We enjoyed a lot of refreshing drinks and treats like affogatos, dole whips, and mocktails. It was very hot the day we attended and stuck to items that would keep us cool. My favorite thing was the Applegato from the Buck o' Stars Café - Steamed apple juice over ice cream with caramel, sugar and spice. There were also neat bubbling, smoking, shimmering drinks too. A few venders did accept card, but I highly recommend bringing cash. I would next time dress up and look at what the weekend themes beforehand. This was a spur-of-the-moment trip for us and now we know what to expect next time.
