Red Apple Farm has been one of our family's go to place for decades. In all of our years going - no one has ever had a complaint. My partner and parents utilize the handicap parking. On our last visit, I watched as 4 employees from the pizza company park in the handicap spots. (No handicap placard) and there was PLENTY of open spots just past the handicap spots. I pleasantly spoke with the young workers to explain that some people need those spots- the response? "Well, we are working". Noted. I did send an email to Red Apple a few weeks ago, but no response While living with someone who relies on the handicap spots, I now understand using these spots give people a way to go out and live life. We just visited Red Apple Farm for their "Winter Lights" holiday experience. It was really cute with some nice spots to take pics. Overall I did expect the walk to be a bit longer.. it's actually pretty short. The lights are beautiful and they have so many of the orchard trees lit up.i kept thinking we were missing a section of lights or something but that was it. I do wish there were more arrows pointing where to go. We only saw one arrow towards the beginning but we kind of had to just figure it out. Our favorite part was the old country store, such a gem! I think it's worth the $24 entry, but it won't be a yearly tradition. We drove just over an hour so while I'm glad we did it, we probably won't go back for this event. However, I will absolutely try to make the trip in the fall when the orchard itself is in full bloom! Their apple cider donuts were also delish! We love red apple farm! It is such a warm, fun place with that really makes it feel like you're living in a movie about the perfect fall New England weather. The food is excellent, the apple cider donuts are not overpowering sweet, they are super delicious and flavorful. The bbq was incredible! We got the ribs, side of Mac and cheese, pulled pork, cornbread and the maple butter with two glasses of rose. Last year we got this fall flavor focused pizza with beets and goat cheese and that was absolutely delicious as well, and the veggies tasted so fresh. We put "apple cider donuts" on the to-do list while coming through town, and when I went to the Yelps to see how to fulfill this goal, Red Apple popped right up on top of the list. We came on a weekday afternoon, which was just fine by us. You can tell that they are used to handling a large crowd, just based on the size of the property here and all of the areas of interest. After a quick amble through the apple trees we sauntered through the store. and found a small bag of the little fried wonders. It appears that they make them fresh during busier times and we were a little skeptical about the freshness of the bagged versions in the store, but they turned out to be soft and sugary and really good all the same. Most of the extra features at the farm were closed (brew barn, donuts) so do plan ahead if you're really looking to make a day of it. But we were plenty happy to come in and have a quick and more quiet tour of the property, get our donuts, and get back out on the road. read more

Despite being nearly 80 degrees, our day here really ushered in fall for me. We made a reservation online and pre-paid for the Open Air Package, which includes picking 3 sugar pumpkins, 3 ears of ornamental corn, and a peck of apples! I wouldn't normally have gone for pumpkins and corn, so this package was a great way to get us to do something different and see more of the farm. There were lots of people, but the farm is big enough that it never felt unsafe. There were pretty long lines for the Brew Barn and the Farm Store (they're only letting in 12 shoppers at a time), but there was none to pick up our pre-paid picking bags and only one group ahead of us to order at the snack stand. Here we got apple crisp with vanilla ice cream and cider donuts. The crisp was nice, although it could have been warmer, and I loved the creamy ice cream. I needed to make a page to just talk about their BBQ options in the Brew Barn. Their actual Yelp page is very nice and has a great score and I can't conflict that score just because I want to critique the food in one particular section of their business. So in the "Brew Barn" you'll find Moon Hill Brewery and it is accompanied by a full menu of American comfort food. Had to try their ribs, came with slaw and cornbread. Got a side of their Mac and cheese too. Ribs were slathered in sauce but it was pretty good sauce. Meat fell apart. Not as Smokey as I usually like. Really messy. Mac and cheese was really Smokey flavored! Surprisingly more than the ribs? Still boiled pasta in a light cheese goo but there was some seasoning to it, couldn't really distinguish what seasoning. Smokey-ness was too powerful. Slaw was really bland although it had more carrots and red onion than I've ever seen in a slaw. Giant! Slice of corn bread. Maybe nobody was getting it. But it was just a typical corn cake style. But it comes with a nice sample tub of honey butter so it made every magically better. Not great BBQ for a BBQ junkie like me. But nothing that would make most people feel the same. Great place though. Good cider and beers. Went looking for a good experience but left with a bitter taste. They would not sell me the barbecue related food because I would not provide a phone number. Yet in another area they were giving electronic gadgets that would ring when the pizza was ready. I tried purchasing freshly made cider doughnuts but the employee gave me a bunch of stale doughnuts with two recently made, hot doughnuts. I had specifically asked the employee that I wanted freshly made doughnuts. She lied and said the ones that had been sitting there for a while were fresh. My boyfriend, dog, and I had the best Saturday here! It was decently busy, but someone was directing traffic and a large free parking lot. When we got into the farm, we were happy to see plenty of orchards, farm animals, and food stalls! They even had a cider barn full of alcoholic and non-alcoholic ciders! We tried the cider donuts and hot cider, both absolutely delicious. The cider was sweet and slightly tart, and the donuts were fluffy and absolutely coated in sugar! If you like rabbits don't visit this place. They sell rabbit meat while letting visitors see their rabbit nursery . All the cute babies being raised for meat being kept in filthy conditions. Red Apple Farm is doing a great job with its COVID-prevention measures! My friends and I made a reservation online for apple picking, and I received a detailed email with all of the requirements/restrictions. It made me feel safe to venture out to a popular spot! The farm itself is huge and has a ton of activities for everyone to enjoy - pyo apples, pumpkins, gourds; a small zoo; live music; great food (bbq, sweets, etc); and most importantly, its brews! My friends and I ordered a sampler of hard cider from the cidery and loved it! I particularly loved the warm hard cider. The absolute winner of the day (and the reason it gets its own paragraph) was the cider donut. I've been apple picking on plenty of properties around New England, and this donut was hands down the best I've ever had. It was so deliciously cinnamon-y. It had a great apple flavor, and like always, it was heavenly when warm. The reason I gave RAF 4 stars is due to its lack of apples. As I said before, I booked an online reservation for apple picking, but when we arrived, the hostess informed us that there were only two kinds of apples remaining, and they were probably picked clean. She said that they expected all of the apples to be gone within hours. My group decided to forego the apple picking in lieu of other activities, but it would have been nice to have advance notice that the apples were gone. I wanted to go apple picking today, but I also wanted something a little more. After reviewing options less than an hour from where we live I decided to check out Red Apple Farm. My daughter went here for a field trip when she was in First Grade and she enjoyed it. I was surprised with how much there was to do here. Besides Apple picking there is various berries/peaches at different times of the year. There is a nice gift shop, wagon rides, farm animals, hiking trails, a huge variety of foods. The fresh hot donuts were amazing. The BBQ Pit lunch was flavorful, fresh and delicious. There is also a Brew Barn with a decent variety of beers on tap. We got a flight for $10 to try 5 different brews. We spent 3-4 hours exploring. It was a little chilly and cloudy the day we visited, so it was busy, but my guess is it gets a lot busier. Such a fun place to spend an afternoon. read more

Okay ... so here's the deal. The atmosphere here gets a 5. The taste and variety of the apples and trees get a 1. That averages out to a 3. Basically, my recommendation in a nutshell is to avoid this place if you are coming for apple picking. The apples are small, sour tasting and sparse. If you want a fall family day, I would recommend you come here for their amazing cider donuts, hayless hay ride around the grounds, BBQ stand and brew barn. Many of the 4-5 star reviews mention that they skipped apple picking and just got a pumpkin or walked around the farm. This is smack dab on the Johnny Appleseed apple trail. They have a tree that is over 100 years old and still produces apples. The thing is, most of the 'trees' here are sapling sized ... they aren't the hearty, tall apple trees that you can climb on. I guess that is good for families with small kids but it makes for a less than memorable experience when you walk amongst rows of small trees and can almost reach the top branches by standing on your tip toes. I think with the popularity of apple picking in Massachusetts, orchards are forced to open their crops for picking too early, which means under-ripe fruit. Every single apple we picked here was too sour and way too firm. We didn't get any of that huge apples for eating, the way some orchards out in the central Massachusetts area have. Most apples were on the small side. (Through no fault of the orchard, it should be mentioned that there was a hail storm this season, so none of the apples we picked were not marked up with hail bruises ... just know that in 2019, the apples you pick here won't be picture perfect looking.) We all had stomach issues after eating an apple from the tree at the orchard and one at home. The apples were all on the sour side. We picked a few of each variety that the orchard had available ... only 4 varieties were available the last week of September. Macs, Courtland, Maccoun and RI Green. The RI Green were similar to granny smith but were so sour and hard, you could barely eat a bite. The macs were sour and hard. The Courtland was the best apple we tried but was still a bit on the sour side. Beyond the apples ... there is a food stand which serves hot dogs, burgers, BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, grilled corn, baked beans, etc. The food here is good ... the burgers were nothing to write home about but for apple orchard food were decent. The pulled pork won't win any awards but it was fresh and decent. The star of the show was the baked beans which were among the best I've had. The French fries were dried out and bland ... they are not seasoned at all. They also have beers from a local brewery available, which were delicious. The parking here is ample and the prices are about what you'd expect to find elsewhere in a pick your own orchard. A bag which holds about 20 lbs. of apples is $30 ... so you are paying about what you would in a store. There is a small $20 bag but the value is much better with the large bag. With the bag comes 2 tokens for the hayride. Each additional token is $4 ... which might be a deal breaker for larger families. The hayless hayride is fun ... it goes on a loop around the property and they don't pack people on. However, I don't know if it's worth $4 per person. The farm store sells amazing apple cider donuts. You order the bag at the register and they are brought out hot and fresh. These are among the best apple cider donuts I've had ... you must eat them fresh and warm. Even cold they are good and better than 90% of the other places I've tried. The store mostly has food ... not too many novelties, etc. but I can't imagine a cuter farm store. The crowd was manageable ... much, much less crowded with people than the orchards in Central MA (Bolton, Stowe, etc.) The crowd was a little on the trashy side (lots of bright blue hair and tattoos) and on the way out, we had a few words with a trailer park-type of woman who was mad because we took too long to take a photo on the tractor she wanted to take a photo on. But despite Walterina White's little meth-induced meltdown, most people were fairly respectful. EXCEPT for the family who let their little kid watch a Mickey Mouse video on her smart phone at full volume! Everyone on the ride shot the parents evil looks ... why you would bring a child on a hayride only to let them stare at a smartphone screen (at 4 years old!!) the whole time is beyond me. But parents like this should be dragged from the back of the tractor vs. allowed to sit in it. Overall, this is a good day for a family who is more concerned about the experience than the product. I won't come back here to pick apples but I likely will come back to walk through the orchard, pick a pumpkin and have some BBQ. We went the last weekend of Sept. on a beautiful day, which felt more like summer than fall. It's in a beautiful part of Massachusetts, although remote. read more

This farm is easy to get to and has no admissions or parking fees. I went during the week and it was quiet. Only a few goats, one cow and two donkeys were around. Others may have been off in a pasture somewhere. You can buy feed for the animals in the beautiful country store, which mixes antique items on display with local foodwares, including apple cider donuts and fudge made onsite. There is also a brewing barn and barbeque. Use the bathrooms by the restaurant and wash your hands as needed in the nearby trough. The handwashing station by the portable toilets did not work. There are ample seating options - indoors, outdoors in the sun, or outdoors in the shade. You can walk through the orchards and by a pond. Hayrides provide another view of the premises. If I had young children this would be a go to spot. read more

If you want the finest Apple pie or Apple Dumplings this is the place, out of this world!! Actually all the products are top notch, I've had the cider, hard cider, they make their own ice cream to go as well which absolutely tops an Apple dumpling!! Fudge is some of the best as well. If you go out of season sometimes it's hard to find someone to take your money, or only one person on duty in the store. It's no quick in and out, however the goods ( almost forgot the cider donuts) are all 10 out of 10 on the scale of greatness. Probably my favorite farm / orchard in MA so far. Quite a drive from Boston - but worth it! They have the cutest buildings and signage, and one of the largest pumpkin patch selections we have seen. We went on a cloudy day so we lucked out as there weren't many people visiting but the weather was crisp and perfect for some apple cider. They have lots of options for snacking, apple cider slush, floats, freshly baked donuts, etc. The list goes on. We did not apple pick this time around, but would certainly come back. They also feature bags of pre-picked apples from their orchard for sale in their store which I thought was a neat idea as well. A couple animals here and there which is good for kids and tons of land to explore. They also have a BBQ restaurant outside which was not open during our visit but had a menu that sounded delicious. Let me preface by saying I grew up coming here and I love this place. However, the service is getting worse and worse every year. The Red Apple farm is getting more popular but they aren't investing in the infrastructure needed to support the larger crowds. We waited almost 2 hours for two pulled pork meals and a cheeseburger. My wife and i had the pulled pork sandwich meal last year and it was so good. So we decided to come back, and This year was completely the opposite the sandwichs took 20 minutes which I don't mind waiting for if it was as good as the year before. This year was cold, dry, chewy, and not much flavor. The beans were barely warm. However, this sweet farm is a tad pricey, depending on what you get (the cheapest apple-picking is $25). We came to Red apple farm on a budget, and we selected the cheapest bang for our buck! -----Instead of a $25 apple picking, try the pumpkin patch! (We picked our own huge 10 pound pumpkin and 3 sugar pumpkins for less than 10 dollars, and bought Honeycrisp apples at their store for only a few dollars!) ----Skip the fries, and order the BBQ entrees. (Our onion rings were good, but not worth the $4 we paid. Buy the $6 pulled pork sandwich. So worth it!!) ----Apple cider donuts are by far the best, and cheapest, dessert there! 12 donuts for $9 bucks. (The apple crisp with ice cream is a pricey $5, but was delicious and enough for two people. So worth it if you split it) My suggestion? I love this place! It's a tradition now for my friends and I to head out this way and pick a bag of apples once the season hits. There are soo many different types of apples, you just might need to venture a little bit. All of my friends have babies now and they didn't have too tough of a time pushing the strollers though the awkward terrain, so dont let that stop you. If you're looking for pumpkins, don't wait too long because the fields go BARE the closer you get to Halloween. The apple cider and the cider donuts are really good, they always have a BBQ going, they have a petting zoo, and the bags of apples are like $20 and they'll last you months. What else is there to say? Oh, and I'm pretty sure the port-a-potty's are now extinct (thank-god) and there are real bathrooms. Woo hoo! read more

Loved this place! I haven't been apple picking since I was a little kid but this place was great. They had tons of varieties and a good amount of space with multiple orchards/fields. We focused on Macouns (for eating) and Cortlands (for making pies). The place was packed with people but it was big enough that once u got out into the fields you got away from everyone. From what I read this place is a little expensive when compare to other orchards ($25 for a bag) but for me...it was worth every penny. In addition to the apple orchards they have pears, blueberries, raspberries, pumpkin patches, farm animals, a store (sells more varieties of apples, pies, jams, etc.), hayrides for the families, and a great outdoor BBQ joint. Remember all the fruits and veggies can only be picked in season! I loved the BBQ. I got a pulled pork sandwich, a little small but still great. The corn bread could have been my favorite part. It came soaked in butter and I just wanted to keep eating more and more. read more

This is a perfectly adequate apple picking experience. It's a beautiful property with plenty to do. The onsite brewery and cidery are great. During COVID they took all the precautions necessary. The clientele can be a little rough. I think I saw more neck tattoos than apples, but that's certainly not their fault, that's just western Mass. You will have a good experience here. read more

Great farm! We have been to a few apple orchards, Honey Pot, Tougas, Bolton orchards, and a couple others, but we have to say Red Apple is the best. The apple cider donuts are incredible. The prices are reasonable too. We went pumpkin picking in the pumpkin patch, and although most of the pumpkins had been picked through (this was in late September) our kids still had a blast. The also make they're own honey roasted peanut butter which is amazing. Seriously, I will be driving back out there just for the peanut butter. We first stumbled along this place while looking for a place to pick blueberries this summer. We ended up with over 10lbs. They were huge and delicious. This place is a true gem. I only got to spend about 30 minutes here as they were closing but that half hour was amazing! The grounds are beautiful with a pumpkin patch and an apple orchard along with animals and a place to buy all sorts of yummy treats. There is an additional space on the property and a wedding was being held while we were there. There are several things to purchase in the store. My eyes immediately went to the homemade caramel apples being made near the front entrance. They looked heavenly but since there was a long line and I had (very) limited time I moved on. Thankfully we stumbled across a little counter in the back where we purchased homemade apple cider and warm apple cider donuts. They were the PERFECT post hike snack. My husband and myself pounded 6 in what felt like seconds! They are the kind of cider donuts that dreams are made of; soft, warm, and loaded down with cinnamon sugar coating.
