I've picked apples and peaches here. The people are friendly, the fruit plentiful, lots of places to sit and enjoy nature after some hard pick-your-own adventures, and tons of purchasable goodies. Their peaches and cream ice cream is amazing. Their apple cider is so freaking delicious (try an apple cider slush, if you get the chance). Their donuts are delicious. The art is beautiful. And the grounds are well kept. Perfect for families, friends, day dates, or solo adventures. Head here for a lovely treat.

Beautiful orchard. Wonderful and welcoming people. Delicious fruit (apples, peaches, blueberries, raspberries)--clearly grown with care. Every two years they have an incredible art show in the orchard, a must see! We love our visits here!

Art sculptures were amazing. Of course the apples were delicious. Nice garden with beautiful sunflowers.

"I look like a farmer But I'm a lover…read moreSo you can't judge a book By looking at the cover" (Bo Diddley) If you ever find yourself in the very cool city of Easthampton, MA, be sure to check out their modestly sized Farmer's Market in the heart of downtown. The market is in a parking lot behind 50 Payson Avenue and during the summer it is open on Sundays from 10-2. There is plenty of parking on the streets that surround the market, or in the park across the street. It's a "Producer Focused" market, meaning that the vendors are expected to "grow, raise, produce, or create their products themselves, or they will provide unique products that represent other local farmers". There was live music on site which was a nice addition to the vendor booths that offered local vegetables, fruits, meats, seafood, dairy, eggs, grains, nuts, flowers, wine, herbs, crafts, clothing, and specialty products. We saw one food truck on site, from the Wicked Whisk.

We stopped by an art booth which provided kids the opportunity to make a cool craft. It was a bird feeder using a cake cone and a string of Cheerios on a pipe cleaner to act as the holder. This was a very creative idea! The gal running the booth was great and she gave our little friend a bag of bird seed to place inside once we returned home. I also stopped by the Creme Bru.LA booth because I freaking love crème brûlée. I sampled 3/4 flavors: maple, earl grey, and sweet corn. All so tasty! We ended up getting one of each and enjoyed them on this warm day at the picnic tables under a tent. I think this is a unique business idea and wish them well. Check them out on IG: cremebru.la. Also they have a market mascot, a tortoise named Tortilla who is the coolest! She was just wandering around the booths having a grand ol' time.

So this Farmers market is between OK and Good so I gave it the benefit of the doubt. I think if there were more vendors out here it would be great. Despite the fact that it's kinda small for a farmers market, I was surprised at the variety I saw. Macaroons, ice cream, coffee, produce, flowers, hungry ghost bread, candles, soaps, meats, eggs, hungry ghost bread, polish pastries, handmade jewelry, live music, hand spun wool yarn, did I mention hungry ghost bread? I repeated HGB because they had a line that wouldn't quit. They had 5 different kinds of breads available, plus a couple of cookies for sale. Their bread is the best, there honestly is nothing like it so try it out if they haven't sold out by the time you get there. They had a wheel you could spin for a chance to get discounted or free things and we won a $2 off coupon at the polish pastry tent. We got this savory donut thing (I totally forgot what it's called) filled with squash, potato, cabbage and cheese wow. It was really really good. Picked up some produce where they had a lot of heirloom varieties you definitely wouldn't find in a mass produced supermarket. I ended up getting some watermelon radishes, rainbow carrots, and these funky potatoes that are Ruby red when you cut them. They had some nice live music going as well. Would definitely come back to pick up some goodies.

The ones I particularly patronize are Red Fire Farm (this being, from both its size and the number of its patrons, the market's star) and Hungry Ghost Bread. They often do have live music, and while it's crowded, well ... I'm a veteran of the Haymarket Friday/Saturday pushcarts in Boston, so "crowded" is a matter of perspective. Yes, the prices are as high as one can expect for fresh farm produce and boutique operations, but it isn't as if one can't go to Big Y or Stop & Shop to find poorer quality at a cheaper price. As it happens, they do take SNAP, and while most people on SNAP can't afford to blow their wad on a $6 pint of grape tomatoes or a $7 loaf of bread, the market will double up to $10 a week, which makes these things quite affordable. Last week I left with a pint of tomatoes, a loaf of bread, and a bunch of very tart chives. Finestkind!

It's a really small Farmers Market and pretty much in about 10-15 minutes you've seen everything. Sometimes you have interesting vendors come out, and sometimes not so much. I personally like when Ground Up Flour is there, as well as when this young woman (I forget the name of the tent) selling baked goods is there. She usually has a wide variety including gluten free and vegan options available and at reasonable prices. My favorite thing from her tent is her lemon-blueberry loaf. I sometimes buy fresh produce, especially when they have things you don't normally see at the grocery store like Japanese Red Kuri pumpkin, and purple asparagus. I'll continue to support, just wish they had more vendors.

"Lazing on a sunny afternoon In the summertime, in the…read moresummertime" (The Kinks) Spending a few sunny afternoon hours at the Westfield Farmer's Market was a great choice on a gorgeous summer day. They are open every Thursday from12PM-5PM between June 5th and October 16th, and this was our first visit. We found it on Court Street on the grounds of the Episcopal Church of the Atonement. You'll find it easily - just look for the trade show booths and tents. Parking is plentiful on any of the adjacent side streets. The market grounds are well spaced and were quite enjoyable to stroll around and browse. We saw vendors selling produce, flowers, dairy products, jams and jellies, raw honey, cider, meads, maple products, breads, baked goods, coffee, crafts, and lemonade. We even saw a pizza vendor with a mobile pizza oven! Oh, and there was live music too. We usually gravitate toward the food vendors, so yesterday was no exception. We bought a delicious Blondie from Sarah's Gluten Free Baked Goods, a decadent Cinnamon Roll from Sweet J J's, and an amazing container of mixed mushroom shapes and sizes from South Hadley's Livingstone Mycology. I've never seen such a rainbow of mushroom colors, including yellows and pinks. I can't wait to toss them in a frying pan with some oil, soy and Hoisin sauce, a spoon of Chili Crisp, and a handful of shrimp! Well done, Westfield Farmer's Market. See ya again on a future Thursday afternoon.

This is the flour that my favorite bakery (Hungry Ghost Bread in Northampton) uses to make their delicacies. You can visually see and taste the difference in this flour. My mom who usually reacts badly to storebought gluten products has no issues whatsoever with this variety of flour. We used to think she was gluten intolerant but now we think it's probably whatever stuff they spray on wheat to keep bugs off that she's reacting too. But really, people shouldn't be consuming plants that have been sprayed by harsh chemicals or has been genetically modified which is another reason why I appreciate Dave's natural garden.
