Went to this place on a Friday night. Despite being a sports bar and not a club, the music was so unbelievably loud that you can't hear anyone around you. Doesn't make sense for a bar with this kind of atmosphere- ie, tables to sit around with a group. You want to be able to at least have a conversation without literally screaming. The place was also filled with just some of the worst people. Unfriendly, wasted sports bros who give you a dirty look when you ask for them to move slightly so you can make your way through the narrow, overcrowded room. Food's okay, though it seems to have dipped in quality. If you go during off-peak hours you might not have a bad time, but otherwise, prepare yourself for a noisy, overcrowded bro-fest. read more

Stopped here for a day off in the summer beer, and I was not very impressed. The bartender was great, I definitely can't complain about the service. However, the two different beers I tried both tasted like they were coming from old kegs or the taps needed to be cleaned out or something. I am no expert in beer delivery systems, but I do know that they should not make beers taste so flat and unappealing. read more

Thursday night football was on w sound but two TVs on the bar had baseball on. They didn't change the channel and were very rude about it. I've been by here a million times, and FINALLY came in here after the Dropkick show. This would be a great place to watch a game (either NCAA, or pro) as there are a ton of different TVs to watch scattered throughout the bar. Also, there's a great juke box, so you don't have to listen to the annoying ESPN or WGN announcers (yeah, I said it!). Staff was friendly and attentive even on a busy Saturday night. read more

This is a place that I would normally just pass by without stopping, as it is not in a main pedestrian area. However, upon recommendation by multiple friends, I was lucky enough to try it. The atmosphere is just a standard bar feel, however their food is above-average. I usually get the same unhealthy food when I frequent the establishment: buffalo chicken wrap and tots, maybe the occasional nacho appetizer....and beer...Nonetheless, I enjoy the place, their food and the relaxed environment. read more

I went to Four Shadows for the first time on Saturday night. I desperately wanted to watch UFC 73 on pay per view and after reading the reviews of some of the other places that were showing it, (Player's Bar and Grill and Kendall's) I opted to try Four Shadows. In addition to not charging a cover (the other places had a $10 cover just to watch the fight) they also had some great drink specials. The food was good and a step up from your typical bar fare. The TVs were well positioned and there doesn't appear to be a bad seat in the house. Another thing that impressed me was the relatively low douche bag factor. Considering it was Lincoln Park and we were watching UFC, I was expecting the worst. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised. Even the staff was really cool. I have always had a pleasant time at this bar. It is, by far, the best place to watch Iowa football - the FREE raffle is fun! Besides going to Four Shadows for football, it is an all around great hang out. The food is fantastic, the employees are friendly, and the management is always on top of things. They have pretty good food, but other than that the bar really sucks. First of all, they're a closet Colts bar in Chicago for no reason. One day they were a Bears bar, and now, for no apparent reason, they are a Colts bar. Get that shit the fuck outta here. And the owner is a complete toolbag. He just stands at the end of the bar and gives everyone the stink-eye. Like his shit don't stink. Well it does stink. It smells like shit. The bartenders are actually pretty cool, but that owner...he's a piece of work. I actually don't even know why I said the food is good. I only said that because they have a $5 buffalo chicken wrap with fries on Wednesdays. So forget what I said about the food. I hear the wings are good, but I have a hard time feeling comfortable eating when the owner is staring at me for the dark corner of the bar, so I have yet to order the wings. Some guy pissed on my foot in the bathroom and then one of the bartenders kicked me out. So really, there's nothing good about this place. Except for it's name. I was craving something sweet last night and ordered the $8 cookie skillet from here. What they delivered was not a cookie, it was a burnt block. I can't even believe they were ok sending out something completely inedible. I threw it away. I understand mistakes happen but they knew when the $8 cookie came out of the oven it was ruined. We've ordered from Four Shadows multiple times. There has been a couple mistakes but nothing major. Tonight, however, was a different story. We were delivered (through the Chow Now app) the wrong burger. We called and were told that we were responsible for contacting Chow Now to get a refund and we would then have to place the order again (so we would be paying in full for their error). This was a mistake on Four Shadows' part- not ours. Reasonably frustrated, it took us 4 phone calls to both the restaurant and Chow Now for a refund. Chow Now also told us this isn't protocol- the restaurant was responsible for fixing the error. Go to hell, Katie. read more

Came here on a Tuesday night with some friends to eat, have a few drinks, and play trivia. I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap that my friend raves about and enjoyed the huge portion paired with tasty fries. This is a great neighborhood bar with an awesome giant jenga set. Trivia was fun and I recommend it for groups up to six to hang out and enjoy the variety of questions. Lots of TVs and places to sit. I'll be back! read more

Four Shadows is a great little sports bar with ample televisions for big game viewing. They have decent beer specials and their pub grub is stellar. I'm a big fan of the loaded french fries (with cheddar and montery jack, bacon, green onion and sour cream) and their fried pita sandwich. My best friend recently moved about 1/3 of a block from this place. I had driven by countless times and always thought to myself that it looked like a fun spot (sans the Iowa flags hanging outside). After moving so close he soon became a regular at the bar. Being the incredible eater that he is, he has since mastered their menu. They have above average bar food and really good drink specials. I have come here a few times with him and their burgers are great. They also have a killer club sandwich (order it on a pretzel roll). As long as my buddy lives this close I am fairly certain that I will be a regular here as well. read more

Stopped in here after a show for drinks with friends on a recent Friday night. Kind of a cute place inside, I thought. Went up to the bartender and ordered a whiskey and ginger ale. He asked, "what kind of whiskey?" I usually get Crown Royal, but knowing that a lot of places don't have it, I asked for Jack Daniels. My boyfriend asked for the same. Now, this drink is not hard to mess up, what with its 2 ingredients, but this was THE. WORST. DRINK. WE'VE. EVER. HAD. EVER. Absolutely undrinkable. One of our friends tried it and immediately couldn't believe his taste buds. I don't know what was in that glass, but it definitely wasn't Jack Daniels. Not sure if there was residue from the glass being washed or not, but the whiskey was not a brand name. It didn't taste like ginger ale was mixed with it either (whatever it was, it was also very FLAT). My boyfriend dumped his in the bathroom, I left mine on the table, with less than an inch consumed. Not only did we not get what we ordered (our other friends had beer...best choice in this establishment), but the drinks were $7.50 and when my boyfriend got change back, the bartender said, "I only charged you $7.00 as I don't have any quarters. Your next one will be $8.00". Ummm, what? Excuse me, but the fact that you don't have quarters is YOUR problem, not mine. The ONLY nice thing about our experience was the server who came by our table to check on us a few times. She was sweet, nice, efficient and brought my boyfriend a beer. Other than that, there is NOTHING good about this place. Shame on you, Four Shadows for trying to slip us something other than Jack Daniels. Some people DO know what certain spirits taste like. My best friend and I after a long day traveling to Chicago from Michigan so we stopped at this bar passing by. Immediately received dirty looks from the bartender and all of his bro friends at the bar. Whatever. We were hungry and wanted a drink. He comes up to the table and asks us if we want waters. Sure but we wanted drinks too. So we begin to order and he interrupts us to ask for id's (which we had out) so we gave them to us and he walked away to show his bro friends which was super weird. He comes back and tells us he cant serve us because our id's are "different". Well ya. We're two different people. This bartender who was clearing lacking mentally, says "one has a flag and one doesn't. These are clearly fake id's". I try explaining to him that yes. My id has a flag because its enhanced. He denied our service and was rude. Wouldnt recommend. Ok we look young but we're both23 with valid identification. Screw you dude. read more

We went there to meet some people for St. Patrick's Day **Saturday. Funny enough those people were so drunk they left and didn't tell us but it turned out great. I towered over a couple of tables giving people the stink eye hoping someone would get up from their table and then...they did!! And we had a great time! We sat at an actual table, not the floor, not on the garbage can, not in a porta-potty on St. Patrick's Day! Guinness was flowing, car bombs flying and wings consumed. No complaints here. read more

i've been to four shadows on several occasions, all with the bf who lives down the street on diversey and wants to go there all the time. great things about 4S: - $3 drafts on wednesdays - i always get the goose island IPA. - the adorable short blond waitress that works there all the time. i think she is a great waitress and the bf thinks she is really hot. real or not, he is dying to know... - the chicken honey mustard wrap. it's very very good. - the wings, loaded fries, nachos. i am a sucker for bar food and 4S does not disappoint with these classics. - tv's all over and usually tuned to the games that we actually want to see which is great. i guess it helps that we're usually looking to watch big ten games, and 4S is sadly and iowa bar. gag. all in all, a great place for a casual dinner and some drinks. a short walk back to the bf's place, so it's a keeper for us. read more

I took my parents here while they were in visiting me in Chicago for the day. The were playing the colts game and it was important that my dad could watch the game so we went here. The food was ok but there were out of certain beers and liquids and our server didn't know much about things like beers on tap, menu items etc. Not a horrible experience but no need to go back. read more

Every town I end up in I have a regular bar I end up at all the time. This has to be the best I've been to. The staff is the sole reason I come back. Place is filled with good looking girls and lively people pretty much all the time and when it isn't the staff makes up for it with good conversation and great cocktails. It never interested me to go inside but this time I ventured inside to find an extremely friendly staff and very comfortable atomosphere. This is hands down my favorite neighborhood joint. I almost never change up my food choice--- buffalo shrimp wrap! Everything is amazing on the menu, try the cookie skillets! I go here for almost every hawks games, and I love that they play the audio (even Chelsea dagger) this will forever be the place I watched us win the 2013 Stanley cup! The day of game 4 of the WS, my party of 6 and I came in around 12:30pm to get drinks/food and watch the Cubs game that evening. Not until 3:45, well after food and drinks were ordered and consumed, did we receive notice that all tables were reserved for the evening. We were upset/disappointed and with good reason. We are regulars and Iowa alum, so it's been a meeting place for us every football season. To welcome us in, receive our patronage, and then ask us to relinquish our seats (without extending the courtesy of notifying us prior to placing our order) was shady at best. This experience has me questioning my choice of venue on game day (and any other day for that matter). read more

i went to four shadows to watch an iowa football game this past saturday. it was a terrific experience! we got there early to ensure we had a table and the waitress was great and not too annoyed that we weren't ordering a lot at the beginning. we got bloody marys eventually which i was nervous about as they didn't look awesome but i was happy with the taste! we ordered loaded tater tots which were tasty and the burgers my friends ordered looked yummy. we shared cheap pitchers of miller lite and i was definitely glad to have a beer special for some day drinking so it definitely didn't break the wallet! the BEST part was the raffle at the game halftime which really makes four shadows stand out from other iowa bars i have visited. everyone got a raffle ticket when you walk in the bar. at halftime, a guy (not sure if he was the owner/manager or worker) got on the bar and started raffling off hilarious hawkeye themed prizes among other funny random things. it was a very fun way to pass the time between halves. the only downfall was that the women's restroom could use locks on the doors. there was also a party bus that went up to the game (it was vs northwestern) including a pre-party and tickets to the game which i was really wishing i had known about prior to that day to take part. next time, i guess! i will definitely return to four shadows for some good college football. I'm partial to four shadows because a) I'm a hawkeye and b) walking distance, so take my review as you will. It's great for a chill sports bar. Nice open windows in the summer, good bar food, and beer. Since I started coming here over a year ago, I can say I've never had an unfriendly waiter/ waitress. Only downer, is that it does get a bit crowded during hawkeye games, but hey I shouldn't complain about that :) read more

Grub Hub led me here to this magical place. The burger was so delicious accompanied by my sweet potato tots, that I ate the same thing every day for three days. Thinking that I may have gone a little overboard, I swapped the tots for a salad which was nestled in the same take out box as my pepper jack bacon burger. I wasn't peeved though because even though the salad was clearly not the super star of the meal, it was fresh and still crisp under the steam, and the croutons were quite tasty. Despite the allure the lettuce presented, I inhaled the 1/2 pound flame broiled cow meat and 3 thick crispy bacons with much delight. One day I also shared a side of onion rings with my coworkers which were also great and crispy. They have Barqs Root beer in a 20oz which delighted me as well! Delivery is decent read more
