Another good bar. Four Shadows is a neighborhood divey joint. It has better than expected quality. Beer selection is kind of limited but it has a few. The food by the looks of things would be all greasy stuff but it actually has some good stuff. Came in here to watch a game. It has a few big TVs and it feels more like a sports bar than a dive bar to be honest. They have a kind of limited amount of beer on tap. It's about $8 for a cocktail. They have the usual stuff like Jameson and all that. As for the food, it's about what you expect. There's a lot of greasy bar stuff. It does have a few other choices. There's also Chips And Salsa. It's about $7 for a small basket. This is about the healthiest thing on the food menu. Choices for vegetarians is limited. If you like chicken they have many options. I have nothing but rave reviews for this place. My friends, Timmy and Ashley, got married in another state but did a reception back home here in Chicago for us that couldn't make it there. It so happened to be here, where they had the entire bar from 6-11. It was packed with family and friends! There were so many of us! The staff was great - they kept up with keeping the food fully stocked, making sure everyone's space was as clean as possible, keeping the tunes rolling, and the bar staff kept up with the crazy demand, all with a smile on their face. The space was perfect for us all and the decorations added for the occasion were enough to give the place a rustic, down home feel. Full disclosure- I know the management and many of the folks that work here. This is an Iowa bar, so whenever there is a Hawkeyes game on, if you're not into crowds...not the right time to come in for a visit. Small owned business, and it's geared towards making their customers happy. The cook in the back whenever I'm visiting is Augie- and the food is always pretty amazing, and there are some items that he puts his own flair on...you should try asking for something unique vs the standard bar fare that you expect. You'll be surprised! Good service here, worth coming up from the South Side or River North because they aren't pretentious here, the drinks are affordable, and the service is top level. I implore everyone to come support the people here who have been out of the picture due to the lengthy shutdown earlier this year. Summer isn't going to last much longer, and so it's even more important for people to enjoy the coming weeks as nobody knows what will happen when fall/winter comes this year. Awesome spot for late night drinks or for an awesome Sunday brunch to watch some football! Staff is always super nice and friendly to me. You can tell They all really enjoy working there which is so nice to see. The Bloody Mary was really good. The food for Brunch is super solid too. From the daily specials, bartenders, and great bar food, it is a great place to stop in. -The beer and cocktails here are always cold and well made. -The menu here is also above average, especially considering a lot of bars around lakeview have awful food. -The sweet potato tots are rare to find in the city, and some of the best I've ever had. -The atmosphere here is very friendly and I've never had an issue or complaint. -They have lots of games, including darts and connect four. I went with a large group to Four Shadows and had an extremely negative experience. Signs were plastered around the bar stating a 20$ minimum for credit cards. I was with a big group of people so we put our drinks on one card. When I get the bill the owner proceeds to tell me there is a 30$ minimum PER PERSON so he charged us 126$ for a single beer and even included a monologue on on the costs of running a bar. Don't come here if you want proper customer service. Management/owner has a power trip and some weird control about chairs being at tables. Literally, no rhyme or reason to it. I asked for an extra chair for a guest. I was told there's the door if I didn't like his rules. I've been in the restaurant business a long time, and the worst customer service ever. Feels like a bar that 1 guy owns so all his friends can drink. Sad, because I'm a big Hawkeye fan. Will never come back to this bar ever again. Once upon a time I moved to Chicago without knowing a single soul. Four Shadows basically took me in like a lost puppy. A few rum and diets, a good game of naked photo hunt, and some loaded fries later, it felt just like home. Seriously, my favorite laid back bar in Chicago. Great place to watch the game, or even better, to people watch. The bar food is fantastic and the drinks are strong, and the bartenders are fun and attentive. Been coming to this spot since I moved to the neighborhood a few years back. Anytime we don't feel like cooking, its our go to for a quick bite and a few drinks. I also enjoy watching games here as it is lively and just a good time. The folks behind the bar are professional, efficient and most importantly, fun. Its one of those, come for the food, stay for the entertainment. They are an Iowa bar, so on game day, well, lets just say you have been warned. lol (Its a good time for sure, I found myself stuck in there once or twice for a game). Just moved to the area and have been to this bar twice and they have been so nice/ welcoming. Really reminds me of my local bar at home but with WAY BETTER FOOD. I had driven past this place a bunch of times and had never been in until recently to watch a Blackhawks game. The spot is way cuter than I anticipated from the outside. Also, the service is friendly (though can get very very spotty when the spot is busy) and the food was pretty good. I'm not sure why we weren't allowed to move a few more tables to make a larger area for the group we were with, but overall, the staff was accommodating. Definitely worth a visit. read more

Four Shadows has a unique burger offering with four distinct types of quality cheese on a pretzel bun. It's amazing! The tots are unusually good as well. Beyond that it's pretty much a normal Irish style bar with darts and Connect Four. The beer selection is solid but not that many taps. They have Sunday ticket to watch NFL games. This is a cool bar with great bar food. They have eight televisions. Went there to watch Sunday football and Blackhawk game. Good beer selection with a enough choices on their food menu. The buffalo chicken egg rolls were an excellent appraiser. I ordered the shrimp wrap and was given the wrong wrap by mistake, and the bar tender made it right quickly and let me keep the extra food. A clean and charming local bar that offers plenty of food, reasonably priced drinks and charming service. Came for taco Tuesday and was not disappointed. We ordered the chicken, steak, and pork tacos - all of which tickled our fancy. I have nothing but great things to say about the service - or should I say the server! The man behind the bar was also the bars only server while we were there.This did cause service to be a bit slow, but can you blame him? He did a wonderful job, was incredibly friendly! just love love love this place. I lived a block from here for years throughout college and it quickly became my favorite spot for the food and aesthetics. They have daily specials, my friend and I would always meet on Weds for buffalo chicken wraps, sweet potato tots and blue moons -- the portions are huge we always left with boxes. Burgers, tacos, etc -- everything is just really delicious. Aesthetics: they have darts and giant jenga to play; mainly high top and bar seating; they've got large windows that look out Diversey & Ashland that they open whenever the weather is nice. Ah Four Shadows...you are so close to where I live I just want to fall in love with you and run away with you and never think about leaving you for another bar, but your overall vibe of generic sports-bar-edness and complete lack of character or sense of any redeeming quality above the other stock bars in Lincoln Park have left me with a hole in my life that I must fill at another local establishment. Food is mediocre, typical bar fare- tater tots are hit and miss (think sometimes well cooked cafeteria-style tots that sometimes give the right crunch from high school), turkey burgers are ok, mac and cheese is standard, nachos standard, again, nothing really stands out. OK specials during the week (Wed. $3 drafts is the standout) with a standard amount of TVs, but aside from a mediocre beer selection and sports, you have one Golden Tee machine...and, um...well, I think there is a jukebox-like machine to select songs on, which might be fun if music being played at the bar were tied in with said device. Every time I leave this place I get the feeling like my time could have been better spent down the road at The Ashland or Jack's, or any other better bar in a two block radius. There's nothing fun with leaving a bar and asking yourself why you went there, and then quickly remembering that you're an idiot for signing up for a euchre league on Wednesday night's that seemed like a good idea a month ago but now feels like a compulsory move brought on by a large banner that was hanging on the side of the establishment that lead to the thought process of Euchre! Beer specials! Sports! That place must be awesome! Sorry Four Shadows, I've given you more chances than you deserve, and I'm moving on - best of luck in your average existence at a busy intersection and continued support of co-ed sports leagues...I'm sure you three will co-exist very well together in the near future. read more

As my home state team (Tarheels!!!) is doing well in the NCAA Basketball Tourney, I needed to see the Final 8 game. I was going to make a date out of it....I know...I know....not sexy, but hey......sometimes you have to just watch sports with a date....every night cannot be wine and roses....plus she had a good time ( I think? *grin*). The place isn't big, but the staff is Friendly and accomodating. The bar was not packed at all and they have a ton of TVs. The game was on and I got my game on....so-to-speak. Though winter time seems to keep this place a but subdued, the warmer month, by what I read here, is something a bit more exciting. No food was eaten, though my date and I did talk about the Tater Tots on the menu, but perhaps next time. So, a short, but sweet review of a little sports bar that is just what the doctor ordered when getting your game on. read more
