We camped there in August since there were no spots left in North lake campground. We paid $28 per night, the site we found was 78 with some shade and privacy as well. We suggest going in and driving by all of the available sites so you can find a good spot. They have more than 100 spots but only 30 are reservable. Bring a shade structure just in case since many of the spots have no shade but excellent views to enjoy even at night. No need to feed mosquitoes by the creek. The bathrooms very very clean and never taken. No noise around us just the wind howling at night. The views are excellent. The drive to lakes and creeks is like 5-10 minutes.

What an amazing weekend! My boyfriend worked with Betty (camp host) to create a special weekend. Betty was so welcoming and friendly. The facilities were spotless and very clean. Hands down one of the best campsites we have been to. Thank you Betty & hubby!

I can't speak highly enough about this INCREDIBLE campground! It stays cool since its high in altitude, has very few bugs, and has stunning views of the surrounding mountains and trees :) If possible, I highly recommend getting a campsite by the river. It's private there and the sounds of the river will help lull you to sleep at night. You can even book some online if you plan far ahead enough! We've always done first come first served though, and found wonderful sites every time; there are so many to choose from!! A HUGE thank you to Diana, one of the amazing people who runs this campground - she is AMAZING!!! She is so incredibly friendly, helpful and welcoming :) she even let us borrow a tent when we forgot one coming up from LA haha her positivity and great attitude did not go unnoticed, and are absolutely part of the reason we'll be back very soon!

    * Beautiful campsite, very peaceful surrounded with tall Aspen trees. * Great view of Sierra mountains. * Close to Bishop town, 15-20 min drive. * Restrooms with flush toilets, toilet papers and sink. * No soaps in bathrooms. * No showers. * High elevation around 8,000 feet. * Gets cold, windy and even snowy in cold nights/seasons. * Colder temperature than other campsites because of high elevation. * Absolutely no reception (which is great). * Lots of RVs here, don't put your tent close to them, they have loud sound of generator.

The views were so gorgeous that we did make a few stops. We parked in front of the Visitor Center and went on the Discovery Trail. It took us an hour to complete. We started on the right side of the loop, and I was just gasping for air. We saw the beautiful Bristlecone trees on the trail. As we continued on to the left side of the loop, we had to walk on the big red rocks. That part was not enjoyable at all as we had to be careful not to trip. However, the views were so wonderful. It's a clear trail, so there is no getting lost.

It's already a little slushy near the Schulman Visitor center, but beyond that, it's deeper, messier, and just not possible without an offroading vehicle. And even that might be a little dicey. So you might make it as far as the visitor center until it snows again, but it is now closed for the winter. A few other things to note: the elevation will make you THIRSTY. Bring more water than you normally would. And a hat/sunscreen, because the sun is more intense up here! Lastly, it takes a little *more* than an hour to get as far as the visitor center but is absolutely worth the drive!

Women's restrooms were somewhat clean, but the showers weren't. I wanted to use the largest shower because it was the only one with a bench and private dressing area. But there was a jammed token and inoperable. Out of 3 (fairly dirty and bug infested) showers, only 1 had little cubbies to put your soap and shampoo. The others don't and you have to put your stuff on the filthy floor. The laundry room was filthy with cottonwood fuzzies, dirt, leaves and lots of mouse poop. One of the 2 sofas to sit on had mouse poop and holes in it. I did a load of wash and chose cold water, we found out after the load that the hot and cold water hoses are crossed in the back of the machine. When I told the staff, their response was "of course it is"!. Not a big deal, but maybe consider posting a sign to let your clients know.....or better yet, fix it. That said, the on-site manager(s) are very nice people. The office does sell fire wood and ice if you need it.

The sad thing is we took our uncles that are 88 and 86 with us and we had to tell them they would have to be driven to the bathrooms . we were by the stables and its about a 300 yard walk to the bathrooms and showers . I am really disappointed in the customer service , they should keep the portable toilets until the end of the season . unfortunately we will never stay at Browns Millpond again .

Trailhead Elevation: 8,300 feet Top Elevation: 9,300 feet Other Uses: Equestrians and leashed dogs are welcome. Bikes are not allowed in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. In a region of exceptionally stunning lakes, Shadow and Ediza are two of the loveliest. Both harbor views of the Ritter Range that are among the finest mountain landscapes in the Sierra Nevada. Rolling through green meadows, conifer forests, and rocky outcrops, the trail rises by gradual degrees up the valley of Shadow Creek in view of Volcanic Ridge, to the left (south). Some stretches have been finessed through rocky benches by the vigorous application of picks, shovels, and maybe a surgical stick or two of dynamite. The best of company, frolicsome Shadow Creek entertains us with music and assorted pretty little tricks, including a very clever cascade around an island of polished granite

Ah-May-Zing! I…read moreheard about Lake Ediza last year while on my way to Garnet via Shadow Creek. Fortunately I had a chance to trek up to Ediza this year. I was told that between the split off from the JMT to go towards Garnet and Lake Ediza there was a piece of Heaven on Earth. Truly the scenery was enlightening. Shadow creek was booming (even in this drought). Like all the high elevation lakes it's quite a trek to get there but the payoff is well worth the pain. When we arrived there wasn't too many good camping spots. We had to go around the lake towards the southwest section and camped a little off the trail. If we had just gone a bit further crossing a small creek to the "island" we would have found an even better spot by the beach area under the cover of some trees. My advice: Get there early and grab a good spot. As beautiful as Lake Ediza is it can get busy. Not Thousand Island Lakes busy, but busy nonetheless.

The lake itself you can't swim in according to the rangers due to the power utilities stuff that are there. You can fish can canoe though. There's two areas to this campground, upper and lower. We originally headed down to lower Intake 2, those sites were nestled right next to the river, but we found another one at upper intake that was well shaded and it was more secluded. We later found out there was also an easy access to the river over the hill for shower rinsing needs. The cost was $24.00 a night and $7.00 extra flat fee for an extra car coming out to $55.00 for two nights. The paid parking area only fit about 4-5 cars at best or else you'll have to try your luck at the first come, first serve parking lot (that's right next to paid parking lot). There were two restroom buildings, the farther one was vaulted (no sink) and had recycling bins right outside. The one closer to our site had running water (had a sink and drinking water fountain) and flushable toilets. For a first timer camper, I definitely really liked this campsite a lot, it was close to the hiking trails that we wanted to do as well.
