I've eyeballed this beautifully nestled restaurant several times over the last few months. Time and time again I said "I've really got to check that place out". Well, that time FINALLY came! My sister and I were hanging out reminiscing over our late mother together, on her birthday and decided to get Italian food (her favorite). We both agreed Four Bricks would be THE SPOT! Needless to say, we were so right! We were greeted and sat with no reservation at around 4:30pm, thankfully there was no wait at that time. However, the restaurant quickly filled up. Our server was very attentive but not over bearing. For our appetizer, we chose bruschetta. 12/10 The perfectly dressed tomatoes and basil sat on a pillowy burrata cloud and melted in your mouth. YUMMMM!! I opted for the penne ala vodka, while she chose the bolognese. 10/10 The penne w/vodka sauce had a surprising hint of spice that was decadent and savory. The bolognese had a slightly creamier taste without the spice and was equally as flavorful. Finally, we ordered the lemon butter cake. 10/10 When I tell you this cake was delicious ... woahhh!! It was a nice crisp butter cake but the lemon zest paired with the coulis and fruit gave the perfect balance. We were told the restaurant would be closing and that it was the final day of service. Made us both bummed to hear since the hospitality and true Italian food with homemade pasta was such a delight. Impeccable place overall! Although we were a party of 12 and got charged the large party service charge, we had to flag our server to take our orders and it took so long we decided to order drinks, appetizers, and our mains all at once. - Bruschetta: 7/10, it's my favorite app and I was sad to say I was disappointed as it had an overwhelming amount of sauce. We had a party of 10 @ 6pm on a Saturday for two birthdays. The ambiance with the christmas decor was beautiful and warm! The host sat us immediately and our server was quick to our service. He is definitely a hustler and sweet. The food was just as good as I remember. My main dish was the King Salmon, it had a perfectly crisp skin and the puree with risotto was amazing -- the tastes and texture. Get the caesar salad as a refreshment. My boyfriend and I were given ice cream for our birthdays and we ordered the lemon cake. Absolutely delicious. The owner is awesome. This is an overdue review but very necessary. We went out to dinner on a Sunday evening in uptown and decided to try this Italian place. It was surprisingly very quiet for a Sunday dinner. Luis was our server and he was so kind and attentive the entire time without making us feel like he was hovering which I love. Everything we had was incredibly delicious. We started with the Arancini and a Caesar salad as an appetizer, unfortunately we ate them too quickly to remember to take a picture. The arancini was crispy on the outside, creamy risotto on the inside and the sauce it's served with was amazing. I ordered the bucatini and added shrimp, pasta was al dente and the shrimp nicely cooked and flavorful. My husband is a huge fan of homemade gnocchi but it's hard to find places that make them perfectly. His were perfect! Soft, pillowy, just the right amount of sauce and definitely made with love. We decided to not finish our dinner so that we could try out their desserts and because we couldn't decide between the butter cake or tiramisu we got both :) and we ate everything. The tiramisu ladyfingers were nicely soaked but not too heavy, the butter cake was moist and overall it was a spectacular meal. First visit and had an excellent experience. We had met the owners at a Yelp event a couple months back, and loved their meatballs so much I made a note to visit the restaurant asap. It's located in a beautiful brick building and the décor is fancy/casual. There's primarily on street parking, with city/private lots nearby. SERVICE: Excellent. When I asked about the elevator, the hostess told me that it was out of order, but she followed me outside and assisted us with getting my elderly mother-in-law up the many steps from the street. Once seated, Leo waited on us, and he couldn't have been better. The entire waitstaff worked very well together. FOOD & DRINKS: OMG...so delicious! We started by sharing the Arancini appetizer ($14) which was a first-ever for me and it fabulous. For entrées, we ordered the Striped Sea Bass Special ($40), the Rigatoni Bolognese ($25) and added two meatballs (+$10), and the Guanciale Wrapped Prawns ($20). Everything had so much flavor and was prepared perfectly. I'm not a big fish fan, but that Striped Bass was fantastic. We finished off the evening by sharing the Lemon Butter Cake ($12) and an Affogato al Caffe ($8). Currently, they only have beer and wine, but I heard that they are seeking a liquor license so that cocktails will be available in the future. TIP: We brought our own bottle of wine and there was a $25 corkage fee, which is reasonable compared to many other places. My one negative comment would be that there are a lot of steps from street level up to the restaurant, and the elevator was not working. They did mention that they have a rear entrance which is accessible from an alley, and we could have used this for my 91-year-old mother-in-law. She chose to do the exercise and take the steps. Overall, a fantastic place with very good food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. We will definitely be returning, and I highly recommend you give them a try. read more

I have to start by giving a shout out to the hostess. I wish I knew her name but we had reservations at 8:00, they were kind to move them up to 8:30 but when we arrived she was very apologetic that she didn't have a clean table, they were short staffed but sat us down near the bar and they helped us right away with drinks while we waited. I got a chance to look around. The restaurant looks like you're walking into a beautiful big house, it has an open floor plan with simple pretty decor. I like that you can see the cooks in the kitchen. The kitchen is beautiful and looks clean. I didn't like our seating, we were sat in a side room with less ambiance and decor. There was a large party that was loud with screaming kids but that's not the restaurants fault. We waited for awhile before we flagged a gentleman to take our order. He was very sweet and I think he realized service was very slow because he was checking on us frequently and even brought us a cup of vanilla bean ice cream with pistachios and berries. We ordered the prime rib and pasta. The prime rib was excellent. Cooked to perfection. The pasta was cold when it came out and didn't have enough sauce. The gentleman asked if he can take it back to the kitchen and make a new one. However, we waited too long and didn't want to inconvenience the kitchen. This restaurant does not serve any bread or sides with their plates. Keep that in mind when ordering. I would like to return and try something else on the menu. But we had to move indoors because of the mosquitoes, hubby and I are very sensitive to mosquito bites. The menu was classic Italian dishes, a lot of good choices. We started off with bottle of white and shrimp appetizer. For entrees we had bolognese and whole Branzino, also side of risotto. A clam pizza to go as lunch for the next day. For desserts we had lemon butter cake and espresso shot. The food was surprisingly delicious in healthy portions. I especially liked the Branzino fish and risotto. Exceeded my expectations. We ordered the 1. Bucatini Cacio e Pepe Bechamel was perfect in consistency and flavor. The truffle waa worth the additional price, gave it a nutty accent. 2. Lasagna Al Forno I only had a bite, but was very flavorful and not greasy. 3. The Argugula and Pistachio salad I personally love this salad but if you do not like arugula don't bother. It had candied cranberry, pistachio, and purple cabbage, with a lemon vinaigrette. The candied cranberry was thin, sweet/tart and crisp. 4. Mini Cannolis - perfect with coffee 5. Latte & Americano - the americano was strong, but tasty. The table water was room temperature but to my suprise it was good. No funky flavors or weird smells. This was our first time at Four Brick by La Crosta, and we had high expectations--the restaurant smelled amazing when we walked in! Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to that first impression. We started with the Arancini, which was good--the sauce was flavorful, and the texture was nice and crispy. No complaints there. For mains, my boyfriend ordered the King Salmon Risotto, and I got the Bucatini Cacio e Pepe with Shrimp. The salmon had a beautifully crispy skin, but the fish itself lacked seasoning--especially salt--and the risotto was bland. My Bucatini was a bit of a letdown as well. The pasta was gummy, and the shrimp was overcooked and dry. As for the ambiance, the restaurant is nicely designed, but the layout feels a little disjointed, like you're sitting in multiple separate spaces rather than one cohesive dining area. The lighting was also inconsistent--most of the restaurant had a nice, soft glow, but in some areas, the lighting was harsh. Unfortunately, we were seated in one of the harshly lit spots, which took away from the cozy vibe. For what we paid, the meal should have been much better. Our total for two entrées and one appetizer was $99.23, and at that price point, we expected more flavor and better execution. This was our fourth visit to Four Bricks and it's been excellent every single time. What stood out most this time was the attentive service. Our server was friendly, helpful, and really made us feel taken care of. Special thanks for the glass of wine and appetizer on the house -- such a nice touch! The food? Always on point. We were a little disappointed a while back when they took the pizza off the menu, but it's back, and we're so glad they brought it back. I actually appreciate that they are not afraid to try new things, even if it does not please everyone. It shows they are listening to their customers and adjusting when it counts. This visit we had the rigatoni, lasagna, and spaghetti. All were absolutely delicious and easily 5 stars across the board. And here's the underrated part: the place smells clean and inviting. None of that heavy Alfredo sauce smell you get at those big chain Italian spots. It makes the whole dining experience feel fresher and more elevated. We will definitely be back again soon! read more

We decided to come for Sat night dinner and celebrate our friend's birthdays. This was our first time here and we were very excited to dine here. Unfortunately our expectations were under exceeded resulting in a very mediocre dinning experience. The restaurant's ambiance was lively but layout somewhat awkward with separate dinning rooms. We ended up in the patio where wait staff kept closing the closing the door making us feel disconnected from the rest of the restaurant. Our lead waiter had no clue about the menu after we asked several questions. He had no recommendations or even went over the menu entries with us. One of the dishes we ordered came out first but others took over 15 minutes. There is clearly a disconnect between the wait staff and kitchen that needs to improve. We tried hunting down our waiter to get an update on the other entries but he was no where to be found. The other entries finally came out but now the first dish was cold, totally unacceptable. As for the food, it was just average, only one of the 5 dishes we ordered was worth mentioning, Chicken Parmesan. I had the King Salmon and it was overly seasoned and under cooked, the Risotto was way too watery, I was totally disappointed. I try to support local businesses but this spot is poorly managed and over priced. Our tab for 4 people was over $250 plus they only offer beer and wine. I understand that management is attempting to create an upscale restaurant in Uptown Whittier which I totally support but it has to have all the components and Four Bricks doesn't. read more

The food is amazing! Homemade pasta and bread is fresh, tasty, and perfect cooked. We tried four different dishes and ALL were delicious. We ordered King Salmon, Short Ribs with pasta, Beef Tenderloin with Mushroom Risotto, Minestrone Soup and Snake River Wagu Beef with mashed potatoes. For dessert we ordered mini canollis. It was our first time visiting and we were nit disappointed. My Husband and children picked this establishment to celebrate my birthday. We received excellent service from Yesenia. We were craving for steak, decided to stay local and visit Four Bricks for our anniversary, as we weren't feeling the drive to LA (where we usually celebrate special occasions). I'm glad we tried it out! Reservations were easy to make on OpenTable. Since we arrived right when they opened for dinner, parking was relatively easy. It was a really hot day so we requested for an indoor table. We felt really warm throughout our dinner, not sure if it was because the AC hasn't had the chance to kick in yet, or if our section was just warm. Also, I noted in our reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary, but this was not acknowledged in any way, which was a bit of a letdown. Our server was really nice and attentive though, which was appreciated. Now on to the best part: the food! It did not disappoint. I am so glad we have such yummy food now close by. My husband and I shared the following: the Little Gem Caesar, the Ribeye, the Penne ala Vodka, ending with Cannolis for dessert. The Caesar salad was fresh and the perfect start, helping us cool down a little (in the heat, haha). Those croutons were to die for, and I loved all that Parmesan cheese. The Ribeye was perfectly cooked, juicy and tender, and the truffle butter was delicious. We opted to save room for dessert instead of ordering sides, and we still couldn't finish our food (but I'm glad as they made for amazing leftovers the following day!). The Cannolis were very good as well, I particularly loved the chocolate and pistachios. We will definitely be back! We did like the pizzas from La Crosta and Four Bricks lived up to our expectations (we love our Italian food - Nancy Silverton's Mozzaplex in LA are our favorites). Hopefully next time we dine in, it would be a tad cooler so it would make for a more comfortable dining experience, and if a celebration is indicated in our reservation, it would be acknowledged to make our dinner even more special. read more

It's extremely hot in the restaurant, uncomfortably stuffy . They have little fans but they really don't help . The food here is amazing. This is my third visit, but this time I brought my folks with me. My dad is a pretty tough critic and he absolutely fell in love with Four Bricks. They also have a really nice wine selection. To start we had the Arugula and Cesar salads along with the Focaccia bread which all were so fresh! We tried the Arancini and Mozzarella Fritti which are now my two favorites. The smokey flavor on the Mozzarella is amazing. For our three entrees we ordered the Salmon, Pork Chops, and Ribeye. We all shared. The Ribeye was cooked to perfection. Medium rare is how we ordered and is exactly how it was served. The salmon comes with risotto which really added that extra something. Pork chops were extremely juicy and came with broccolini and mashed potatoes. My dad was very impressed. Our service was excellent. Reuben was extremely attentive and gave us very good wine suggestions. Also made sure our water cups were always full. The ambiance is very welcoming. I had dinner here, party of one, a few nights ago. The exterior of the restaurant is beautiful. I love the glass windows that are shaped to refract so much light-romantic and warm. There was plenty of seating. They even had an "outdoor" seating area that was enclosed but dressed up to seem you're outside with a simple but humble , romantic and effective aesthetic. The restaurant was lit well. You're able to clearly see but it's dim enough to feel like you're having a luxury and calming experience. I had an ice tea that was very nice. I ordered the arugula salad to start. I believe it was about $16? It was wonderfully dressed and had a satisfying amount of finely shredded Parmesan snowed on top of it. It is listed as a pistachio arugula salad. I hoped for more pistachio but it was more like a finely chopped sprinkle mixed in. I couldn't really taste the pistachio which dampened my expectation, although still was nice. I had the chicken Parmesan as my entree. The chicken was abundant. I was served about 2 and half cutlets. The chicken was tender and moist. The flavor was simple. The breading was good and toasty. The cheese on top was broiled to a lovely color and gooey. The tomato sauce was very clean and simple. If I recall it was about $32. For dessert I had an affogato. The espresso was okay. The vanilla gelato was delicious and rich and I loved it. I appreciated seeing vanilla beans were utilized. I wish there was more gelato because it seemed they dolloped a tablespoon into a cup of espresso and it turned more into a cup of espresso soup that I drank instead of being able to dig my spoon into. I forget that price but im sure you can find it online (and fact check the prices of the other dishes I listed, lol.) Overall, I appreciated the flavors of all dishes were nicely balanced and very clean. I guess, for my own taste, I was not completely blown away by anything I tried. However, know that I am very picky. It's tough because I know the food was made very well but something was lacking and I was underwhelmed. Had the privilege of dining here 7/14/24. The ambiance is very reminiscent of my travels in Italy. Very clean, modern, simplistic. The food is Michelin quality food. Had the arancini & meatballs to start. The vodka sauce was full of depth & complexity. The meatballs had a pleasing bacon flavor...very juicy! Had some pasta with shrimp & scallops. Perfectly seared scallops!!! And the homemade pasta had the perfect texture. Coming from someone with a culinary background, the seafood was perfectly cooked & executed!! The wine selection come from various prestigious wineries. The servers you can tell are very seasoned and knowledgeable on giving the guest a great dining experience. We were excited to try this new spot in uptown. I'm all about supporting new businesses but needless to say I was very disappointed. The restaurant is cute, I love the concept of it. As soon as we walked in, we were seated right away in the patio. We had the heaters which was nice cause it was a chilly night. So to start off , we had a server come to us right away and didn't even explain the menu or was welcoming or anything which seemed odd. Nonetheless we ordered an app. Probably a minute after he took the app order, another server came to greet us and take our order. We were super confused but she seemed way nicer than our first server so we asked her like uh we just placed an order for our app with another server, are you guys switching? And she said oh no, I thought nobody had came to greet you guys. So immediately we thought oh these servers aren't communicating, so that was a red flag already. THEN to top it off, neither of them came to our table anymore. We waited 20 minutes to try to flag someone down to take our order and they never came. Once our app arrived to the table, I asked the busser to flag one of our servers down and he's like it's okay I'll just take your order. We were already so upset with the customer service, so we were hoping that our food would make up for it.....which sadly it didn't. The appetizer and desert was the only thing that somewhat saved this experience for me. Honestly the Arancini was a 10/10 hands down. The vodka sauce that was underneath them was chefs kiss. I wanted to lick the plate. Although we were pissed about the service, that first starter was amazing. BUT then we got the pizza. lol the bottom crust just fell apart as soon as we picked one up All toppings just slid right off. It was good but just a little underwhelming. But man, the pasta.. it was too watery. The sauce was bland and it wasn't even spicy. I was beyond upset because the vodka sauce with the Arancini was perfect. It tasted Nothing like it in the pasta. Mind you this whole time we finally got a server to check on us. They knew they had messed up cause I sensed them even scared to come to the table to check on us. We hadn't complained or anything but he even told us oh imma take your soda off the bill for "waiting". lol Oh we did order dessert too. At that point we were like what's the worst that can happen now?! lol but it was actually really good. It was a lemon butter cake. Nonetheless, I really wanted to love this restaurant and tried to give them a break if the food would've made up for the customer service but it didn't. This restaurant is beautiful. Great atmosphere. It was a little bit too loud to have a conversation. A nice place to get a little dressed up for. Caesar salad: perfection. The delicious butter lettuce, amount of dressing, cheese, freshly grated pepper. Cacio e pepe: buccatini has a great chew! I thought it was a little salty but my son loved it. He inhaled the whole plate in minutes. He loves pecorino Romano cheese. They can cut down on the salt by doing a half Romano half parm mixture. I wouldn't share this dish. It's a small but mighty portion. Bolognese: our server recommended this one. I loved this dish. Al dente pasta. Enough to share if you order an appetizer. I took home half to savor the next day. Lasagna: definitely share this one. I tried a bite and the sauce was amazing. So fresh. My husband is a lasagna connoisseur/snob and even he said it was phenomenal. It tastes like they use San Marzano tomatoes? Not your average sauce. I normally don't like lasagna but I think I'll order this next time I come back. It's that good. Green beans: perfectly cooked. Not too crunchy, not too soggy. Enough for 4-5 people to share. Lemon butter cake: a must have. Enough for 4 people to share one bite of everyone is quite full. A light lemon butter cake with crispy top, high quality ice cream full of vanilla beans, sliced strawberries and strawberry sauce. Not too sweet. Perfect finish to a great family meal. My husband grew up in Whittier. His family lived here for nearly 60 years. They are happy to have Four Bricks as a new addition to their city. read more
