Grilled salmon bowl
Jon L.

Your classic downtown weekday salad/sandwich lunch spot with a decidedly Filipino spin. It's popular for lunch and has been on Kearny for a while now. Avoid lunch rush if you have to hurry. Takes a little longer here but there's more care to making your food to order. Besides the standard salads and sandwiches, the rice bowls are really great here. Filling and hearty without weighing you down. From sisig and chicken adobo to the lighter and healthful tasting grilled salmon bowl that's served with kimchi and pickles over a bed of brown rice. Foundation Cafe is a solid lunch spot on Kearny.

The food was amazing. The orange juice fresh squeezed and the people very friendly and upbeat love it here

Bob, is the owner. Say "hi" and chat if he's not swamped. Such a sweet man!

If you haven't tried the Foundation Cafe, you're missing out. Missing! Out! The food is made with fresh ingredients and the vibe is right. I got the breakfast burrito. I ate it too fast for a photo. And I put the tater tots on the side as I was trying to keep the burrito healthy. Even the tots were crazy delicious! And I'm not one to eat those! The burrito is their best selling item and I know why. Delish! And Melanie manages and she's a riot! Best energy ever! This place is bringing life back to this street!

Egg over broccolini

This place caught my attention because of the sign outside the door advertising Filipino dishes and my fiancé loves Filipino food so he walked in to look. I followed him in not really wanting to purchase anything from there and the lovely cashier Melanie started chatting us up with no pressure to buy so I began to browse the menu and to my surprise it wasn't just Filipino food and Melanie was offering to make us anything we liked if it was something relative to what they offered, which was a lot. We loved her vibe so much we wanted to support so I got the breakfast burrito, my fiancé got the broccolini egg and we were amazed with how delicious they both were. She even shared with us how to make the broccolini over egg at home so we could make for our kids. She went above and beyond! Thanks Melanie!

Ambiance: Cozy Service: quick staff: friendly food: delicious! Great place to have breakfast or brunch! I got the sisig rice bowl which was flavorful and filling, and I liked that the vanilla bean latte was not overly sweet.

Had the most amazing Sisig rice bowl today! The staff are all super nice and friendly, and the tight-knit vibe just made everything better! Will definitely come back for more:)

Sisig Rice Bowl

The food is amazing! I especially love the sisig rice bowl--I get it every single time I come here. The staff was also very welcoming which made the experience just that much sweeter. I'm Filipino, so I was really happy that the staff are also Filipino serving filipino food. I study here sometimes since they do have tables and it's not noisy!

The sandwiches are creative and well balanced. There is always a harmonious balance of ingredients. The Ms. Spicy is wonderful, as the Tajin spice is unique and adds to the flavor. Alma's Hot and Spicy was also a winner, as was the Giants. Kudos for having simple sandwiches with the option to make as weird and customizable as is reasonable! I have only ever gotten delivery because it is far away, but I am very happy with the accuracy of the orders and artistry in each sandwich. Thank you!

Friendly staff and highly recommend to order online as it can get busy on a weekend afternoon. Pictured: the Masonic -- a grilled chicken breast sandwich with their signature house garlicky mayo and the usual sandwich toppings. There are many ways to customize as you please. The sandwich was extremely fresh and flavorful but the star was the Dutch crunch bread. Definitely one of the best I've tried and just elevated the sandwich as a whole. 10/10 might have to grab two next time I'm in the city!

Service was efficient and friendly, and the ordering process is straightforward. You choose a base sandwich, pick your bread, and customize it with their selection of veggies. We got the Sanfranpsycho with all the veggies and it was phenomenal. Highly recommend the Dutch crunch bread. You start in the back toward the center to place your order, then move to line up on the left side to pick it up and add toppings to hot sandwiches. After that, you bring everything to the front to pay. Quite few people, us included, were a little unsure where to go next. The sandwiches made up for it. I got the tri tip special with garlic butter and swapped the Swiss for pepperjack. The meat was sliced thin and really tender, and the garlic butter a perfect addition. I'm not usually big on sauces, but they have a good variety of house options if that's your thing. We'll definitely be back. I was also happy to see they have another location in San Bruno.

I got the breakfast sandwich which was delicious, and my friend ordered the turkey sandwich which they also loved. One thing to note is that they don't allow substitutions or modifications, so just be aware of that going in. It's more of a deli/grocery-style spot, so there isn't much seating, just a few tables and chairs outside. But it's super close to Dolores Park, so we usually just grab our sandwiches and head there to eat. The chocolate chip cookie was also a standout. It's more of a brown butter, dark chocolate situation, rich but really well balanced, and the perfect sweet treat after the sandwich. Since we came right before closing, they even gave us the last cookie for free, which was such a nice surprise!! The staff was friendly and made great conversation. Would definitely go back.

For example, some sandwiches are served on a crunchy focaccia bread. My only critique is that the sandwiches are kind of small for the price you pay and the meat portions are small.
