Hertz at the airport was going to charge me $440 for a 5-day rental, which did not make me happy and in my view, was price gouging. I needed to find a rental car close by that was cheap, and Stop-N-Go was half the price. Ultimately, the car worked fine although the brakes were terrible and the ride nothing to write home about, but it got me where I needed to go until I picked up my new car. When I originally rented the vehicle, I explicitly told the agent that I had an I-PASS. She never bothered to mention that my transponder wouldn't work on California toll roads, even though it works across multiple states when I take road trips. ​To make matters worse, when I called about the charge, the representative named Jose stated my name and email address had been entered incorrectly in their system from the start, proving the original agent wasn't thorough. Jose corrected it. His customer service was terrible. He claimed there was nothing they could do about the fee and refused to let me speak to a manager. Charging a $55 administrative fee on a $2.24 toll due to their staff's lack of communication, while offering zero resolution or management escalation, is completely unacceptable. Unlike most Nationals, you need to check in with the staff to pick out a car and you don't get to choose within your status. They will tell you what they have available. Most likely this is due to the lack of space... But it's not a big deal bc it's a small and efficient airport (John Wayne SNA airport) so there's really no wait. Cars were very clean and the parking lot is the most organized and efficient I have ever seen in a parking lot for rental cars. There are numbered spots for cars so you find the exact car you have. And there are pedestrian walkway strips colored yellow to keep people safe and to let drivers know where they shouldn't drive.

I also ran into a little trouble with the toll roads, hopefully someone else can learn from my mistake. I took my transponder and drove the rental car for multiple days, I didn't see it on my account, so I called The Toll Roads, hoping to make a payment and find out why the transponder wasn't working. Because the car was registered to Hertz it read the license plate and instantly charged them, despite me having a sticker transponder on the dashboard, I believe I had $40 in convenience fees over the matter. Which wasn't very convenient. That being said, a lesson was learned, and hopefully, I prevent somebody else from making the same mistake. No complaints about the team at all. However, the condition of the fleet left a lot to be desired. There was almost no selection available, and I was given a Hyundai Elantra with over 35k miles on it. To make matters worse, the car itself was quite dirty on the inside when I picked it up. Extremely Disappointed with Enterprise Rental Car…read more I am beyond frustrated with my experience with Enterprise. My vehicle has been in the body shop for three days, and despite having an insurance claim that was opened on July 7 and a rental reservation made for a vehicle comparable to the one I drive, I still do not have a rental car. I drive a Toyota Highlander, yet the only vehicles Enterprise has repeatedly offered me are a Nissan Altima or Honda Sonata. Those are not comparable to my SUV and do not meet my transportation needs. What is even more disappointing is that I have spent hours calling branch after branch--at least 10 different Enterprise locations--and every single one tells me they are booked and have nothing available. How is it possible that every location has no comparable vehicles when my rental should have been planned well in advance? Customer service has been just as disappointing. I've called to explain my situation, asked for help, and requested callbacks, but no one has followed through. After being without a car for three days, I expected better communication, more urgency, and at least some effort to find a solution. I understand that inventory can be limited, but leaving customers stranded while offering no meaningful assistance is unacceptable. A reservation should mean something, especially when it's tied to an insurance claim. I hope Enterprise takes a closer look at how situations like this are handled because this experience has been incredibly stressful and has fallen far short of the level of service I expected.
