I really wish I could find a gym where people actually work out. Similar to other gyms in the area, the problem here are the members. Mostly. Almost every time there will be members taking up space on equipment having full on and lengthy phone conversations. There are signs posted all over with proper gym etiquette which is nice, but goes mostly ignored and completely unenforced. But it's not only the members. Especially later in the evening, gym employees will be taking up space on the gym floor, while sitting on equipment, just socializing. One perk of the higher tier membership ship here tho is the monthly massage. And they have great massage therapists. read more

The space is expansive, modern, and well-maintained, giving everything a fresh, energetic vibe. Their classes are fantastic--challenging and motivating, with instructors who know how to keep you engaged. But the cherry on top is definitely the amenities--they have a steam room, sauna, hot tub, and even an outdoor swimming pool. After a great workout, unwinding in those makes the experience unbeatable! Definitely worth checking out! it's the only downside is the parking if you're trying to make a class you have to come a little bit earlier to find parking you can get a little busy around rush-hour. read more

I had a very disappointing experience at Forma Gym recently. I was already inside the building and called the front desk to authorize the purchase of a guest pass for someone joining me. Despite clearly identifying myself and explaining that I was onsite, the front desk staff member, Paul, refused to process the guest pass unless I physically walked back to the front desk. His tone was unnecessarily rude, dismissive, and unprofessional throughout the interaction. There is no reason a simple authorization--especially from a current member already in the facility--should turn into an issue. The lack of flexibility and poor customer service was surprising and frankly unacceptable. Experiences like this make it difficult to recommend this gym to others. read more

Been a member a year and so far so excellent staff are always super nice friendly and happy bathrooms are always clean towels are always stocked never had a problem getting parking so not sure what people complain about Sherri gives great massages so please give her try or get the upgraded membership with a monthly massage so worth it the only pain is all the rude people who take your swimming lane because they are too lazy to book one ahead of time, no manners at all and some entitled snobs don't want to move either, those people should have their memberships taken away for being the biggest jerks! their parents didn't teach them anything about how to be a civilized member of society. read more

Great unique classes. All inclusive weights room. Surprise party area overlooking the weights. Diverse exercise options. Came here with a couple of friends to check out the meditation class for the first time. I was very impressed. I expected it to be mostly just still meditation, but it was so much more. The teacher facilitated movement in the beginning, and then proceeded to guide with a guided meditation that went deep. Utilization of sound, Bowls and other equipment. My friend got a training session and it looked pretty happy. I feel like at some gyms I have to compromise utilizing equipment for some of my exercises, which is fine, but this literally has every piece of equipment I need for my entire work out. Free guest passes on the first time trials. Great locker room. Inclusive steam room and hot tub. Decent amenities. Highly recommend. read more

Literally a 10/10. It is a bit pricey as a 22-year-old living in the Bay, but I'm willing to work extra hard to afford it. Great atmosphere, no creepy people, and the girls here are actually very friendly--which I've really been needing. The best part? The sauna and steam room are separate and not co-ed. I seriously needed this. 24 Hour Fitness has become so overcrowded, and as a girl, I just don't feel comfortable going into a co-ed one with men working out and all kinds of crazy stuff. Bring member for over 30 years , there is a big discrepancy in monthly fee. I was paying $80 while some pay $65. Now I got email to pay $95 while some others will pay $90 and some don't have increase. It has no basis as we are all seniors and have been long time members except favoritism. This is hands down one of the best gyms I have been a part of in all of my gym life. I think they offer great amenities for the price offered. My favorite time to go is in the morning between 7-9am, the weight floor is never over packed, there's never an issue getting on to any equipment, towels are fully stocked and people are generally considerate and keep to themselves. As a woman I feel very comfortable at this gym and really appreciate all of the kind staff members. I personally really enjoy the women's steam room, sauna, & jacuzzi - there are rarely ever more than 3 people in the area at a time. I also appreciate the large exercise and yoga class rooms that are available for personal use outside of classes - it's a great place to stretch and do my own routine with a lot of space around. I have also found the best massage therapist ever who actually knows what he's doing, applies pressure and can read muscles/injuries easily. Paul is incredibly talented, it's really hard to find a great massage therapist and he takes the cake! I will be moving soon and am devastated to give up this membership, hoping for the day they want to open up a location through the tunnel! read more

Forma is a great gym with a variety of classes, heated outdoor lap pool and indoor/outdoor weight equipment. A special highlight review for Pilates classes. Over the past couple of months I taken early morning Pilates classes. Yuki (instructor) provides good instruction while reading the class attendees capabilities. Based upon the attendees, He adapts and adjust the class to improve the benefits of utilizing the reformer (see pix) as well as other devices in the studio. For me, Pilates is the ABC's. A. : Adaptive - reformer is adjusted to your size strength and abilities B : Balance - noticeable improvements in balance and movement (ie hiking) C : Core - which holds the body is much stronger and improved posture (swimmer here). My main need with signing up for a gym was quality childcare. That said, I almost didn't join Forma due to a negative review of their Kidsville. I brought up my concern when reviewing membership options and they assured me the person in the mentioned review was fired due to leaving children briefly unattended. I took the plunge and joined. After a few months of being a member I can say I am THRILLED with the quality of child care we've received. I honestly feel like for the price of my gym membership my 2 year old is getting 2 hours of preschool. Every day there is a planned activity to keep the children occupied - from ornament making to coloring, to making slime, to using glue sticks to make fun art projects, etc, every day my daughter comes home with a smile. As for the gym, it's relatively outdated but has everything necessary for a quality workout. No fluff which is really all I need! read more

I've been coming to Forma for almost 4 years, and have had nothing but positive experiences and interactions. I've been a member of globo gyms and smaller, private gyms, and Forma has proven to be the best of them all. The staff (from janitorial to trainers to the front desk) are friendly, helpful and attentive, and the majority of members are kind and respectful. Gyms are a shared, public space (and something that we all pay good money to attend), and for the most part, people are good about making sure that they don't take too long using equipment, or they'll allow others to work in. I've been going to Forma Gym for many years. Last week I signed up for a special class that was to be held tonight. I arrived at the front desk and told the two employees I was there for a class and confirmed that it was in the mind/body room. I went upstairs and the room was dark, door was closed. No class. I came back to the front desk and told them there was no one there. One said, "oh yeah, I think it was cancelled..." He sent me up there not five minutes earlier. .I didn't receive any notice the class was cancelled and went through all my texts and emails from Forma for the past week. Lots of reminders about the class but no notice of cancellation. They offered to refund me the $30 but that would take a while. I said I'm quitting my membership, give me the $30 in cash now. They refused. The father of the Owner finally showed up and gave me $40. When I started telling him what an awful experience I had with the front desk he said "I gave you the $40. That's it". I spoke with Yuki, the employee who organized the class and he said it appears that even though I registered for the class "on the app" he did not send me a cancellation notice. He does acknowledge it was his mistake. Actually, it's a blessing. The gym seems to attract weird old men who stare at younger women (anyone younger than 70). They members are also insanely liberal politically and don't care who knows it. In one yoga class the teacher was talking softly during vinasana (resting and reflection) thoughts about love, healing love and some old man said loudly: "Tell that to the Republicans!". She went over and told him very nicely that if he ever says anything like that again he will not be welcome in her class. read more

This review is for the parents considering Forma. There's always multiple childcare employees working, even if there is only one child. This was a big selling point to me to sign up for the gym. I didn't want my child alone with any one person. The staff learned my children's names within 1 week of us attending which I thought was so sweet. Sometimes they do crafts and other cute activities, and sometimes it's just free playtime. My kids LOVE their toys, and the outdoor play area. And the employees are great at keeping me informed of anything and texting me if there's anything to be updated about. It's a great way for kids to get screen-free playtime with other kids while parents get the chance to workout and focus on their own health! Oh...I forgot to mention that they have supplied Kidzville with a Lifevac to keep on hand as well! Choking is always a fear of mine with little toddlers so that was a big relief to know that they're prepared for anything. read more

I just have to say - my negative review has given me more harassment than anything else on Yelp. No other reviews have I been emailed years later about. So for that reason alone, I will always keep it up. It's the same crap I got as a member I applaud everyone else who speaks their truths on here with negative reviews. Because I'm sure they also get harassed. This gym can't take criticism and are bullies when they do get it. They send their family and friends after you. So if you are wondering if you are alone, you are not. And if you are wondering if you should join, just ask yourself if you want to deal with harassment if you have an issue or complain. During a morning weight training session (5am) I was threatened by another member who took the gym equipment I was working from me and then got in my face about it. A bully and a thug. As i walked away from this individual he said "Do you know who I am?" I stated, "I didn't care who he was" and he replied well you are going to find out!" I immediately reported the incident to the front desk and the young gentleman at the desk witnessed the individual come by the desk while I was speaking to them and the bully again was yelling obscenities at me and just throwing his weight around. Seemed like some entitled guy who wanted a fight. He then proceeded to push open the door and leave the gym. Ruining my workout session and not even finishing his own. I left the gym, after speaking with the front desk, looking around me as I left the gym. These days you never know the sanity of some people. I received a call from the manager late morning who asked for my side of the story and I informed him what happened. He looked at the video footage and stated he needed to speak to the individual who threatened me. I received a call later that day from the manager who stated the individual's membership had been revoked and he would no longer be welcome to the gym. He also thanked me for not escalating the situation and under the circumstances, keeping a level head. In one day the management at Forma Gym had taken care of a very serious issue. I did feel threatened, harassed and did not feel safe coming back, but justice was served this day and I commend the staff and management for their swift response. read more

They charged my account for the month of March even through they're temporarily closed. I've emailed multiple team members with no response from the company. This review is specifically for the childcare. The rest of the gym and amenities are very nice. I've been putting off writing this until I learned that multiple other parents have had the same experience as me with their own children and I feel it's my duty to warn other parents so this doesn't keep happening. The day after I joined, I used the gym without my baby. I went to check out the childcare room again before bringing my ~8 month old the next time. There was a baby not much older than my own sitting alone in the room without a caretaker. I waited for a good 5 minutes and nobody came. I went to the front desk to let them know about the baby left alone. The biggest concern for me is that there is no lock to the childcare room and it is directly next to the front entrance. Anyone could easily walk in, grab a baby and walk out without being noticed. I spoke with a membership director later that day to cancel and refund my membership. It's really unfortunate, because it's a very nice gym. read more

We joined Forma gym about 6 months ago and everything was great! Nice staff..clean locker rooms...good weight machines... However, as soon as the mask mandate was reinstated, the gym proceeded to move over 1/2 of the weight equipment BACK OUTSIDE! I guess there are some folks who don't mind working out outside when it's 95 degrees outside and the air quality is horrible and filled with smoke, but I'm not one of them. If I had wanted an OUTDOOR GYM, I would have joined one. I'm not a huge fan of the bait and switch situation. Now I'm going to leave and look for a new gym that's indoors with air conditioning...very disappointing. read more

I spoke with the membership staff and they are very strict about their rigid cancellation process. I received Covid from sharing the Sauna with another person and wanted to cancel because of having a newborn and not wanting to risk it. Membership asked me to supply a doctor's note and told me that there was nothing that they could do. I was looking to come back to this gym after my newborn gained more immunities but they chose one months payment over future business. Not very family friendly. read more

Staff is fantastic, facilities are great, cleaning crew is always working on something, and being able to get a workout in without my kids tugging on me was life changing after dealing w postpartum. I've seen mixed reviews about the childcare and I do know that there are different staff members depending on what block of time you go to, but I take my kids to the M-F morning and those girls are awesome and take great care of my 1 and 3 year old. Mulain is amazing and is super easy to communicate with re: kids. Had a facial from the in house estheticians and it was the best I've ever had. And I can use the daycare while I get said facial Great community vibes. read more

For reference, been going to this gym for the past three years and have not had as many bad experiences as the past few months. I use Forma purely for the gym and have had terrible experiences with management/ staff and some of the other members recently. Most members here have no clue what proper gym etiquette here is. One time I was mid using a machine while a member comes up to the machine and starts using it in front of me. When I mentioned to them I was using the machine, they said I "don't know how to work out" because I wasn't using the machine 24/7, even though I was taking a rest break between sets. They then go on to insult me and use vulgar language and call me numerous different names that I won't post here, and the staff did nothing about this. Another instance I had been waiting ten plus minutes for a machine, and when it finally comes free I put my stuff down and leave for literally three minutes only to have my stuff moved and my machine taken when I got back. Again, the member goes on to use vulgar and inappropriate language towards me while the staff did nothing here to deescalate the situation and simply said that I have to wait for another ten plus minutes, even though it was literally on camera for how long I was waiting and how long I had been away. Not to mention all the members who just sit and jog machines while doing absolutely nothing I.e. watching shows on their iPad. Despite these past three years, I have never had such a bad experience and these are only the beginning of the story. Would not recommend Forma to any of my friends or family anymore, especially considering the other available options and the rising membership price accompanied by no other amenities,and will be looking for new gyms in Walnut Creek soon if this continues... read more

I'm start off with by saying that you get out what you put in. I found Forma Gym through Indeed when I applied as a Massage Therapist. The listing was old but I didn't hear back so I thought I'd take a visit. I felt intimidated when I first walked around. So many confident people and seeing the lounge area, the nice furniture, and quality of everything was just amazing. I didn't hear back but I have a good job where I'm at now. Fast forward a couple months later, I was feeling stressed and wanted to sit in a jacuzzi. Why not take advantage of their free day pass? So I called and asked about it and showed up! Hailey gave me a tour of the gym, answered questions that I had and was thorough about everything. She was honestly so smooth with it that I decided to sign up. Btw, idk what the previous reviewer was going on about the different rates for people- that is far from the truth. No special treatment. Anyways, I decided fuck it. I have never joined a gym in my life but I was bored of the one at my apartment complex. To be honest, after being here for over a month now- Forma Gym is not a gym. It's more of a club. You see the same faces every now and then- especially in group fitness classes. I've made friends. The front desk knows you by name. It's just so nice. I started coming in to get my money's worth. I made the time for it and eventually decided to try out a class! My first was Zumba and it wasn't my thing but damn did the older people outdo me. I decided to keep trying classes, different teachers, etc. My favorite teacher is Jenn. She is funny, her workouts are effective, she is open and honest-- like idk-- she's just really amazing. I feel good around her and in her class and she opened me up to try other forms of exercise- TRX, Core Pilates, Bands, Butt, & Core. Jenn can do it all. She teaches cycling as well but I tried a cycle class with someone different and it wasn't them- for me, it was the seats. My crotch was just not having it. Jenna is also an amazing trainer. I love her energy- WOW WEE! She also has a wide variety of classes and I can't wait to try them all. She's sweet, and funny, and will make you give it your all. I started off with one class a day and now I do up to 4! Sometimes it's just so that I can work out with my favorite people. Okay so long story short-- it's a welcoming environment and that motivates me. Check out their amenities, the locker room is always so clean. The sauna and jacuzzi are usually vacant when I go in the morning so that's a huuuge plus. The studios are full of equipment, and necessities (except for clocks haha). The machines and weights are all in good condition and everything is super clean! They host a few classes in which they show you how to use equipment in the weight room. I need to attend one of those but I'm still intimidated by that room. The people are nice and helpful so when I get the courage to bulk- I'll take advantage. So all this good news-- why only 4? I'm not gonna lie--the parking is kinda whack. Some days are better than others when it's not busy but I hate parking in the alley on the side of the building. Some people can't park. Couple days ago, I thought I had the last good spot right next to the outdoor studio but these people parked so awkwardly that my Jeep was not gonna fit. So many spots but it's a shared parking area and most of them do not allow you to park close without a permit. Get there at good time and you'll be okay. I don't want to end this review on a personal small con. When I wake up-- I look forward to getting there and seeing familiar faces. I look forward to taking care of my body when I leave. I love seeing older folks there just as motivated as me. I love this place and I can't believe it took me so long to finally start. If you're leaning on the idea, just get a day pass and see it for yourself. read more

My Dad loved coming to the Wateraerobics classes. They help extend his quality of life and gave him a sense of community support. I would have guessed that a gym would want to encourage people to walk or bike instead of drive, but the bike rack is hard to find from the entrance, and the rack is only about a foot tall so you can only lock your tire with a standard u-lock. Of course anyone who can remove your tire could then steal the rest of your bike. It would be nice if the gym would install inverted U shaped bike racks that go up to your waist so I wouldn't need to worry about my bike while working out. read more

There are many overpriced Bay Area gyms and it was difficult for me to find a good place near Lafayette that had the amenities I wanted: -lap pool -free weight room -treadmills -included spin classes -child care -sauna & steam room Forma does it all and for a ridiculous price given the quality and care they put in. You can tell it's a well ran place by how genuinely happy the employees are and how clean the gym is. Absolutely love Forma - use the upstairs weights, spin classes, water aerobics classes and have had facials/neuromuscular therapy via the spa. The facility is large, clean, friendly and great locker rooms with jacuzzi/sauna/steam. Special shout-out to Yuki Yoshi, Director of Pilates and Spa - have been taking his Pilates reformer classes for a year to help with a knee injury and seeing direct results, and really like the mind-body aspect of his teaching. The classes are a bit pricey as they are on top of monthly membership, but as beneficial for me as seeing a personal trainer several times a week, and much less expensive. Absolutely recommend this gym/Pilates facility. read more
