Loved this place! Took the scenic view from Dousman- a gorgeous drive- and found ourselves at this cool old building. I guessed right, it was a hotel in its previous life. The inside is clean and modern. It's cool how they have portraits of famous Wisconsin natives on the walls. The food was served quickly and was delish. The salad was huge! The food here is AMAZING! Especially the Mac n' Cheese (highly recommend). Although it is usually quite busy, the service is usually pretty good. It is a little expensive in my taste, you definitely get what you pay for. Once again the food is immaculate. The interior design is also really unique giving you a little history of Wisconsin. Overall, I do recommend coming here. One minus though is since it is really busy, it can be quite loud at times, so if you don't do well in loud environments I would advise you order takeout from here instead. read more

Food was very good, but felt like we were being rushed out of there. We had just gotten our appetizer, and 5 minutes later they brought us our salads AND entrees all at the same time. I told the server we wanted finish enjoying our appetizer and enjoy our salad, so they took the food back, but then the server came out 5 minutes later with the entrees again! Server provided initial beverages in a timely fashion and doubled back for menu order in an adequate amount of time so we didn't feel rushed or forgotten. Menu options are varied, portions are Wisconsin large, and food is tasty. We did ask for our onion soups to be rewarmed, which we were thanked, as it turned out their soup warmer was not properly set! Because we were celebrating a birthday, we ordered three of four dessert choices which are beautifully presented. The carrot cake was the unanimous winner! Went here for lunch with my friend this month. Really like their chicken, salads and big pretzel with cheese. No complaints about the food. It was good, as was the service. When we got the bill, it showed a "HOH" charge of an extra $1 per entree. When I asked the server what this was about, she stated that there are cards on the table explaining this extra charge. (See picture) So now we are expected to pay extra for the cooks, so that the restaurant doesn't have to pay them more per hour?! Kind of tricky and not appreciated! I stopped in for lunch not really expecting a ton. I'm not sure why, but I thought it would be average. It was not! It was amazing all around! The historical building in a dark dusty blue, gives off that vintage feel of time gone by. It sits street front in a bustling area. Tables on the front porch add to that feel. I went inside to see the hostess for a table on the back patio. She was so welcoming and friendly. She chatted nicely as we walked to the back. The interior was so well kept. It looks elegant in a rustic kind of way. There a lot of dark varnished wood and a huge vintage bar. The back patio was so cute. There are tons of flowers and even a water feature. The black metal tables and chairs look perfect on that patio. My server was fantastic. He was so friendly and efficient. I ordered a side garden salad and he told me he wanted me to have a piece of their sourdough bread to go with it. Very sweet. The homemade Italian Vinaigrette is incredible! I loved the bread too. I had one of the best meals I've ever had. It was dinner, but it was a steak sandwich and it was so tender just like M&Ms the melting your mouth not in your hands. I recommend going there if you drink beer they give you a nice Bavarian pretzel with your glass. read more

Interesting place, but a bit pricey. They also tap you for what appears to be an extra "no reason" fee- with no explanation or warning. Service is slow- but the food is good- Just they should warn or notify you or explain the HOH fee added to the bill. read more

I am extremely upset with my brief encounter at Fork in the Road. The host was extremely rude to my mom when she was asking to be sat. He said that he couldn't seat us so she turned around and said "they said that can't seat us" and then he interrupted and said "i didn't say that" and then proceeded to explain that they can't seat us in the exact same way but more condescending. We came for the fish fry. I had the beer battered haddock and it was outstanding - crispy and not greasy. They must also make their own tartar sauce which was the best I've ever had. Great unexpected spot in this small town. We made an early reservation for eight people on a Friday, and the staff was super friendly and accommodating despite becoming super busy as the evening got later. Highly recommend reservations as the bar area became packed and there was a line out the door. The food and drink were both delicious. They serve up some high quality American food dishes from entrees such as ribs or pasta to sandwiches, salads and burgers. We were in town looking for a new vehicle and came upon Fork in the Road in Mukwonago,WI for lunch. I'm so glad we decided to try it! It's located in a quaint 1800's former hotel and from the moment you walk-in, you can feel the charm. They have a great old bar and though we didn't order any drinks, they had a large selection of beer, wine and cocktails. The walls had fabulous black and white pictures of celebrities and notable people in history who were born in Wisconsin. It was interesting seeing how many that were born there! The dining area probably was, at one time, a large dining room and kitchen. There are great old wood floors. Their menu had anything you could possibly want, many items very unique. I had the Greco-Italian salad, consisting of mixed greens, garbanzo beans, kalamata olives, pepperoncini, Parmesan crusted soft boiled eggs (interesting), cukes, feta cheese and cherry tomatoes. Italian dressing was served with it. It was good as well as huge! Brought most of it home. Hubby had a delicious Seafood Chowder as well as a mushroom/cheddar burger and fries. It was done perfectly for him and the fries were delicious as well. The prices were right in line with todays prevailing restaurant costs. We went here for a late lunch and it was delicious! They have outdoor patio seating in front and back. We had a large group and sat inside admiring the canvas arts featuring various famous artists. I got the artichoke and spinach sandwich with roasted vegetables. The artichoke and spinach dip was gooey and savory! Also, the side of roasted veggies were well seasoned. Located in an old hotel built in the the late 1800's, Fork in the Road mixes local history with a modern eclectic vibe. Awesome bar, comfortable dining area, great for any group. The food was fantastic. I went with the filet and double asparagus, with side Caesar. The salad was fresh and served ice cold, the way it should be. The asparagus was seasoned and cooked to perfection and the Filet was melt in your mouth tender. Darla was a wonderful server. Bring a date, your family or customers-there is something for every pallet. I'll be back on Thursday for the roast pork special and all of the carrot cake!!!! read more

I am not a fan of this restaurant. It is always very loud, and the service is extremely slow. Plus, despite a pretty extensive menu, the food has some very strange flavor, profiles, and combinations. I think they are trying too hard to be a Michelin star restaurant (and failing). I really do wish the food was better because it is so conveniently located, and the decor and outside porch/patio dining is very cute. they always have gorgeous red climbing, vine, type flowers all over the front of the façade. Maybe someday they will improve upon their food. We might give it another try in a few years. We have already gone there at least four times, and it has never been a pleasant, dining experience, unfortunately. Sorry! Gotta be honest. read more

The food was tasty enough. Huge portions but splitting items worked out well for us. The low rating is because of the hostess - she was rather rude and "snippy". We were a party of three (one being my 89 year old mother), and our party was missing one person upon our arrival at 5pm. (I tried making a reservation earlier in the day, however, the restaurant only offers a limited number and none were available for our requested time of 5pm). Since our party was not complete, we were told that policy restricted us from being seated until our 3rd person arrived. The frustrating part was the restaurant was fairly empty, so why make us wait? To the hostess - sometimes bending the rules goes a long way to providing excellent customer service. In our case, you failed miserably. read more

We were visiting this little town for an event, otherwise we wouldn't have been here. Everything was fresh, homemade, and probably the best food we've ever put in our mouths. Fresh baked bread, hand mashed potatoes, perfectly steamed asparagus, butter-tender perfectly flavorful prime rib with unneeded but excellent au jus and horseradish sauce. Home made baguette with a perfect toothy texture and gorgeous little butter balls presented on tiny forks. Phenomenal house made soups with unique subtle flavors. Friendly staff, clean and farm-chic dining room (maybe a tad noisy for some.) Bustling Sat evening with a full house enjoying beautifully plated, fabulous food. If you're in a hurry, just get soup and bread at the bar and save the full dining experience for when you're not in a hurry. It may take a while and you will be glad for every minute that was obviously spent preparing your personal dinner. Cocktails looked fabulous. Lots of diners had wine as well, must be good! This is definitely the hot spot of Mukwonago. During lunch it's pretty slow and dinners and pretty crowded. But no matter what time you come it's probably noisy. The place does not do well with sound: while eating lunch here I hear everyone's conversations and at dinner time all you hear is a muffle of voices. As far as waitresses go, the few times I've been here they haven't been the greatest. They do their job but they don't do any more. And sometimes they don't even do it. I've had glasses empty on the table and no waiter near by and I've waited for my check for a longer than normal time. The check ups by the waiters aren't the greatest. The food here is okay. I think I depends on what you order. The all you can eat fried chicken on Wednesday's is good. The chicken is hot and crispy. The melt I had wasn't anything above and beyond. The macaroni is really good though! And the wraps here are alright. Average food with a high price though! ($22 for a half rib) The interior inside is pretty nice. The place looks clean. We are locals so we've given the new ownership quite a few chances to impress. I feel like the only thing that impresses me are the waitresses/waiters... especially Lori.. she is our favorite. The owner seems to hate life standing at the hostess station. I have yet to see her smile and for us to feel welcomed. We gave the place another whirl last night. Happy Pants was at the podium and flatly said "we don't have any tables. We stop seating at 7.30p (it was 6.58 and my husband mentioned that).. you can see if you can find a spot at the bar if you want to try and eat." Miserable lady. Always cold food too. Every time we eat there.. I have to be ready to eat cold mac and cheese if I want it. When Dennis owned the restaurant.. he would always smile and greet customers and make sure everything was great. I get that owning a restaurant is stressful and keeping great staff is hard.. but for the love of God.. don't let your customers see that stress on your face the second they walk in. We will NOT be back (unless you turn your frown inside down or Dennis comes back). We went to have the most lovely dinner at Castaways... food was amazing, the staff were incredible and welcoming. That place will be our new local place for food and food times. read more
