I almost passed this surplus store. It's been on my go to place for awhile to look for some military pants for work and some MRE's. Forest Park surplus has plenty of clothing and other military/ camping items to choose from. The prices was very doable. They also have knives and guns. I was disappointed about the selection of MRE's which was only 1 chose of ingredients. I can say will go back for the clothes and the camping selections. read more

The gun experts here are excellent! Merchandise: you can get something here as simple as a pen flashlight to a bullet proof vest. The store may look moderate from the outside, but they have a ton of stuff in this store. Some are good prices, but I'd have to admit that some are slightly overpriced. Understandable though when you're competing with a behemoth like Amazon. Employees: I agree that the front staff isn't the most pleasant bunch sometimes, but the gun experts in the back are amazing. Steve, who helped me decide on a shotgun, was so accommodating and knowledgable. I spent a bit of time getting his insight on house protection. Super grateful for his recommendations. I have been wanting to visit this store for quite some time and I was finally able to this past Saturday - March 9, 2019. I was so glad that I finally made it into this amazing store. First - the store is really big and has a huge amount of inventory that ranges from true old surplus stuff from way back to perhaps current issue - foreign stuff too. Lots of aisles to wander along looking at stuff you have either long forgotten or never knew was available. Second - the staff was great. If you have a question, they will definitely be able and HAPPY to either answer it or get another staff member that can. I walked in looking for a some M65 Pant Liners in an XL. Unfortunately they did not have any available. In all fairness to them no one seems to have any available in that size unless it is from some obscure vendor hidden deep within the internet. However, they did have some of the ECWCS Gen 3 Level 7 Bottoms that were used and in really great shape. Most importantly, they were being offered at a fair price. I got mine cheaper than I would have paid had I purchased them over the internet with shipping. Plus, I was able to look them over, try them on and get them faster than any courier could have gotten them to me. which is a huge plus! Like Brandon J said, "Ditch Amazon and give this place a try". I could not agree more - forget the internet buy local! I am anxious to get back down to Forest Park sometime soon so that I can visit this amazing store again. I need to lay hands on those XL liners, another MARPAT tarp, and some cold weather mittens & liners for an emergency car bag and day packs/hiking packs. I went to the store a few weeks ago to buy a jacket and everything for my dad who recently passed. I barely knew anything about what he needed. The employees were amazing but the manager was just incredible. They were also very kind especially during the situation. Seemed like a good place, randomly stopped by to find a molly pouch which they had, guy at desk seemed nice.

It was some time back when I purchased an old Mauser rifle which had been sporterized. All I wanted was the action, so I didn't care that the stock had been altered. Well, I gave the clerk my driver's license and credit card, and filled out the firearms form, and I thought I was done. I took the rifle out to my car, and this guy follows me out the door and says, "You didn't pay for that rifle." He didn't say, "Sir, you still need to do something to complete the purchase." He just deadpans me and looks like one of those zombies ready to eat your brains. This store apparently has some kind of two-step sales process that was not adequately explained to me. To say I was stunned by this guy looking at me and making an accusation like that was an understatement. I went back in and I cannot even remember what they wanted me to do. I told them I thought that by giving them all of that information--which included my name, address, credit card number, Declaration of Independence, etc., that I was done. I've never seen a sales procedure like this outfit has. Anyway, I took the rifle home--but I was so put off by the experience that it has just been sitting in my gun safe. To tell you the truth, I have thought about going back and just tossing it to the owner and saying, "Here--you think a retired Army officer was trying to steal your stupid gun after giving you his name, address and credit card information--you must need it more than I do." I am sure, however, that I would never set foot in this store again. I sincerely hope it goes out of business. read more
