After the range it's cleaning time...

Purchased the majority of my firearms from Stoddard's and have never been disappointed. Great location in Douglasville and Atlanta (near Atlantic Station). Always receive good customer service at both locations. The staff is always willing to educate you on things that you don't know. If you're not sure about a particular firearm, chances are they have it as a rental and you can test it out. Ask about the membership; as with anything else it has its benefits...

They make you jump through hoops just to practice shooting. I will not be going back to this place.

Ask the Community - Stoddard's Range & Guns

Do they charge to use the lane per hour or do they per person to use 1 lane?? I know some ranges charge 2 or more to use one lane per hour and thats kind of not fair? If we all of us are being charge we should each get an hour to shoot.

Based on the picture I took of their fees, it appears it is max 2 ppl per lane and $15 per person.

This was my first skeet shooting experience and I had an absolute blast (no pun intended). Thanks…read moreto Jang C. for introducing many of us to the sport. The Tom Lowe Trap & Skeet Range is located in Southwest Atlanta off of Camp Creek Parkway. What do you do here? Shoot clay pigeons with shotguns. It's a lot of fun. Various online deals have floated around for this skeet range. Groupon is one example. I bought my deal through Tippr. Some of the deals are advertised under the business name "Deshotel Arms," which is the gun shop located at Tom Lowe. It's the same place. If you don't have an online coupon, expect to spend about $25 for one round (25 shots). This price includes one round of targets, one pack of ammo (25 shells), gun rental, and eye and ear protection. Successive rounds are less expensive since you're only buying additional targets and ammo (and not re-renting the gun). If you have never gone skeet shooting or shot a shotgun before, I highly recommend going to the free beginner's class at 10:30am on Saturdays. The class is very short, but is important because it teaches you safety, what to expect on the range, and how to properly handle and operate a shotgun. If you plan to take the beginner's class, you need to show up on time as they do not accommodate for late arrivers. There are several shooting stations on the property. Each available station is manned by a Tom Lowe employee whom you give your token to. One token is good for 25 clay targets. The employee stands next to you while you shoot. When you say "pull," the employee launches a target into the air for you to shoot. There are different types of target shooting you can do. The standard one has you moving between six to eight spots on the field. In the beginner's target shooting round, you stand in one spot and fire at targets that move from the low house away from you and the high house towards you. These are easier because you don't have to follow/lead with your gun as much. It's more of a straight shot. Always wear your eye protection when you're on the range. You never know when a broken off piece of clay will come ricocheting towards you. It will leave a mark. Also, be firm with the shotgun, against your body and your face. Some of my friends got sore from the recoil of the shotgun because they were too relaxed in their setup. You want the gun to push your head and body back as a whole, not kick back up and smack you in the face. Men typically shoot 12 gauge shells and women/youth shoot 20 gauge. You can request differently, of course. I shot the 12 gauge because it was standard, but I heard from Christopher P. that it's easier to aim and more fun to use the 20 gauge shotgun. The instructors were nice, but the employee manning our station was not very friendly. It felt like he did not want to be there. We all wished we had a different employee. It wasn't too big of a deal, though, because we still had a great time. It's just like Duck Hunt. Now all they need is a dog that pops up and laughs at you when you miss.

Went with a large group plenty of different angles and sections to shoot staff was very friendlyread more

The customer service was A1 from every point of contact…read more Kudos to Ross who I got on the phone to decide where I wanted to go for my range experience. Ross was thorough, pleasant, patient, informative and kind on the phone! When I arrived, Dave took care of me at the Range counter and he was SOOOO informative. He gave me so much great information and again was super patient with all of my questions. Mike did my 30 minute session and honestly, minus the arsenal on this mans waist, I just wanted to give him a big hug. What a kind soul who can probably shoot the peen off of an ant at 50 yards. #inreallife. So I wouldn't suggest the whole hug thing, but he IS my new best friend in my head. Not just because he told me what an amazing job I did, but because from his thorough teaching manner, to the exercises he instructed me through, and his obvious concern for my safety, I felt cared for. The facility is beautiful and the staff are well qualified and very welcoming. I will take my new best friend Mike's advice and be a once a week customer. I quadruple LOVED my visit from the intro video, to Dave showing me how to sign up for classes online, to my active range time....the process is easy, and the pricing is great for range time, targets and ammo. I didn't have time to look at the gun selections, but from what I did have chance to gander, it is impressive. I loved my experience and am grateful to everyone at the Governors Gun Club for treating me so well!

3 visits and all went well. Public pistol range is well lit and kept tidy. Staff has been friendly…read moreand helpful. Wide array of firearms for sale and large cache of handguns to rent/try on range. Definitely a membership preferred pricing arrangement. It's a bit expensive to drop in as a non member, in my opinion. But, I'm comparing It to outdoor ranges in South Georgia that' are less expensive. There are multiple memberships available. Reminds me of a golf club I belonged to for many years. If you want to use the range once or twice a week membership is the way to go. My permanent residence is 4 hours away in another state and I'm here for a few months. Like some Golf Clubs do, they might consider offering out of state memberships or temporary memberships for part time residents. I'd have spent a lot more time (and time is money) there if they did. It's an active operation offering training and special events (competitions) that sound like fun.
