The staff is knowledgeable, and they greet me and ask me what I need as soon as I walk in to expedite my trip. I can't say how much money I've saved when I came here to buy what I needed on the Ranger packing list. When I got orders to PCS, I even brought some of my used uniforms AND equipment to sell back instead of throwing it away. Out of all the times I've been here I only had ONE bad experience. I tried to buy some of the FRACUs to wear out in the field, but the guy told me "I can only sell you those if you're going on deployment". So, unable to buy FRACUs (which there were plenty of) I headed home empty handed. News flash buddy, if you're stationed on Fort Benning you're probably not getting deployed anytime soon. Did he expect me to bring orders proving I was going on deployment soon? Makes zero sense, but I digress. I don't think this one bad experience reflects on Tier 1 Gear, so I don't think it deserves to effect the 5 stars I give it.

Instead, my order was placed on backorder with no notification whatsoever. When I finally called to check the status, I was told they had no idea when the correct length would arrive. To work around the issue, I modified my order to a length that was supposedly in stock and was assured it would ship the next day. A week later, with still no shipping confirmation, I called again and was told the system had "dropped the order." They promised to send it out that same day. Shortly after, I received the one and only call from them informing me that they were out of that sword length too and asked me to change the order yet again. This would not meet my needs, so I demanded a refund. This entire process took 17 days, and not once did the company contact me first to inform me there was a problem. I had to chase them every time for updates, only to receive conflicting or misleading information. As a Marine, I hold the Marine Corps NCO sword in high regard and expected better service. I would strongly recommend other Marines look elsewhere for their purchase.

STOP GOING HERE Went…read morein looking for stuff to turn in to CIF. I tried picking gear that needed some cleaning to save money. I was wrong. Tried to wheel and deal but there was zero wiggle room on obviously used and abused gear. I was told "We get these straight from the manufacturer," all while I'm looking at large rust patches and wear. The guy offered to get me brand new items. That was nice but the price was still high. Of the 7 small things I wanted I left with 2 canteens and 2 canteen pouches, less money, and a sour taste for the store and the gentleman behind the counter. He did stick to his guns, there was no way I was going to leave with that used equipment for anything less than what a brand new item cost. I went down the street, passed ranger joes and turned into Tier 1 supply. This is what a surplus store is supposed to be. Friendly folks behind the counter instantly said if you got stuff to trade we do that. I got everything I needed with a couple extra things cif wouldn't take from me. Even before the trade, the price for all 7 things (2 sustainment pouches, 2 2qrt canteens, 2 2qrt covers, small stuff sack) I needed was half the price of Commandos. Tier 1 even gave me free donuts as I left. Immediately returned to Commandos to return $45 worth of canteens. Like are you kidding me.

The nice lady…read moreon the phone asked some leading questions to not only make sure they had the pants I was looking for but also additional options just in case. Fast forward to today, I went to pick up the pants and the lady I'd spoken to on the phone was there and she turned out to be the manager. I tried on all of the pants she'd set aside for me but was still having trouble with the fit so she circled the store and found me even more additional options. I think I stayed close to an hour there! I've never had a retail experience like this, where someone is truly invested in making sure I get exactly what I need and that I feel comfortable with my choices. She seems like she genuinely enjoys her job and that was so refreshing as a customer who really wasn't sure what she was looking for. Thank you for your help and I will definitely make the trek back
