I had some pants and a shirt dry cleaned and pressed and they re-creased the pants in the wrong location and left the old crease in. They also melted my shirt collar. If you're looking for a place that has attention to detail, this ain't it. Very disappointing considering this is supposed to get uniforms ready for inspection. I've been patronizing Commando Military Supply, formerly The Cav Store, formerly ARCCO, for 33 years now, and have always found the store replete with pretty much everything that I needed, either as an Infantry officer, Ranger & Pathfinder student, a civilian, and most recently as the proud father of a 18X candidate who just completed Jump School and then shipped up to Bragg. Commando has and continues to maintain it's customer-centric focus helping out soldiers and their family members with pretty much everything they need to outfit themselves with any item they need for the barracks, their uniform, or the field, at a fair price. I first came to know ARCCO's owner, Mr. Art Chriss, back in 1987 when I was introduced to him by the S-1 of the US Army Ranger Dept. I later became the S-1 myself and worked with Art and his family prepping for the 1987 Best Ranger Competition social events. I stayed in touch with Art after I left active duty, and visited the store when business travel got me near the Atlanta area. My latest trip two weeks ago took me into Fort Benning to pin my 1980 Jump Wings on my son's chest on the 12th, and I, of course, made the stop at Commando to pick up some subdued jump wings and some cloth OCP wings for his fatigues. As in the past, I was greeted by their welcoming staff and helped to find the items noted above (and got my free bottle of water too!) I always ask if I can say hello to Miss Chriss, but as she had already left, I met Art's daughter and said hello and thanked her and her staff for their years of service to the everyday soldier. "Would you like a drink, sir? On the house." Color me impressed. My friend told me that he likes this place compared to Ranger Joe's-the guys who come to mind when you think, "I have to replace TA-50 on the cheap!" Back to the story, I was browsing for a friend of mine who's deployed and wanted new boots and after taking their free bottle of water I was directed by the friendly greeter/beverage hander outer where they have them stocked. It was a truly deep collection, basically every make/model of boots that are available for purchase. I found the ones that my friend favored-Altamas by the way and then I did some browsing of my own. The place is really well organized and a lot of attention is spent to packing lists for OCS or Ranger or whatever, the first two aisles are devoted to that. There is some overlap but obviously this was intentional, the knives and multi-tools and stuff are in a separate alcove ,uniforms by pattern in one place, books/manuals there all easy to find. Let me tell you what else impressed me besides free liquids, dental picks-you wouldn't think that soldiers would need that-but they're so useful for weapons cleaning. They obviously know who their customer base is. The clearance section is no less helpful, I was asked right away what I was looking for and directed to where it might be-it wasn't there but it was iffy since it was old equipment. If Commando's decides to expand their business to mail order I'll be the first to sign up. read more

A great place to pick up gear for yourself or your Army son/daughter. They do on-site fittings for Class A/B uniforms, name tapes while you wait and probably dogtags, too. The packs and bags selection was very good--as was the camp supplies (bug spray, toiletries, etc.). If you need a pair of boots, they have a lot of different types and styles available with serveral different price-points. There is also a separate section for lights, knives and tools that is worth checking out. Beware, most of these objects aren't cheap, however. read more

Excellent customer service! You are greeted and offered a complimentary beverage as soon as you walk through the door. My first time here I was shopping for OCS and one of the employees took my friends and I around the store and got our entire packing list done for us. It made my life so much easier! I had my name tapes sewn on here and my dress uniform converted over from enlisted to officer and was happy with the job they did on both. My husband (Army National Guard officer) and I went to Commandos on Veterans Day to purchase a few items he needs for an upcoming training camp. As the Army has issued new PT uniforms, that was one of the many items we were looking to purchase. Commandos was completely out of the PT pants and jackets and the employees on the floor gave us limited to no direction on when they will be back in stock. Further, as we were checking out, one of the cashiers was incredibly rude to us. We asked again about the new PT uniform stock and she responded with attitude, "you have to ask someone on the floor"...which we already had and did not receive a sufficient answer. Further, my husband wondered aloud if Ranger Joe's might have the new PT uniforms, and the cashier responded with "how would I know, I don't work there," which was not a questioned directed towards her. I was hopeful that the employees might treat our military with a minimum level of respect, and was disappointed that on Veterans Day of all days, my husband was not shown any respect towards basic questions. I would like to have a better experience in the future, but I do not believe we will be back. read more

My husband and I took our three boys here after visiting the infantry museum. They were so excited to get three bears they found in the store; each of the bears were clearly marked $8 and labeled with the correct description. We get to the register to check out only to be told that someone put the wrong price tag on them, and the correct price was supposed to be $23.95. The cashier, who was trying to do the right thing, called the manager/owner over to change the price as it is required by law to honor the price as marked. The first manager/owner walked away like she was distracted by something else after she said to change the price but the cashier didn't have the right access to change the price. The cashier then called another manager/owner over to change the price and the guy basically refused and wanted to argue about it. I mean, seriously, break three little boys hearts over that. I was going to buy them for regular price but after I saw the way they acted about it, no thank you. I will take my business elsewhere. I have always went with Commandos over Ranger Joes for all my military equipment. I am in between PCSing and needed some work done ASAP and they went above and beyond to get me what I needed in a timely manner. Unfortunately, one of the items didn't fit well, so I called to notify them. With no hesitation SARA took care of me and fixed the issue. I live in New York City but I was at Benning for basic, ocs, IBOLC, ranger, airborne, and air assault. So I'm familiar with the area. Commandos is by far the best. I've called them probably a dozen times in the last year for things and they've always come through with no issues and I get it shipped up here to NYC. Just today I called for 1/2 inch name tapes and they'll be on their way in a day or two. The only problem with Commandos is you can't order off their website. But the people who answer their phone are so knowledgable that I never have an issue finding what I need. I walked into Ranger Joes once and was treated like they didn't want my money. If you're trying to decide between Ranger Joe's and Commando's, stop thinking and come to Commando's! First of all, when you're in uniform, you'll be greeted like this: "Would you like a drink, ma'am? This one's on the house." (I'm a girl, if you haven't figured that out, ha!) They have a selection of water and sodas for you to sip on while browsing the store--that's pretty awesome. Secondly, they have a great selection of boots, uniforms, knives, etc. While people will say that they can be overpriced, Ranger Joe's is more overpriced. Thirdly, the customer service at Commando's is amazing. There is always someone available to help you find something and to find it quickly! They are very knowledgeable and friendly! This is one of two major military supply stores in the area. The staff is pretty helpful and knowledgeable. I'd suggest shopping here if you're starting OCS, etc. because they will actually pre-package everything for you in one of those green laundry-type bags, with the packing list attached. They even let you take out any items you already own, so you could end up saving some money. Commando offers dry cleaning services, uniform alternations/conversions, and dog tags, among other things. The only real downside is that it's hard to navigate through the store because a lot of the aisles do not seem to follow any type of logical pattern. read more

This review is more for the discount store: I have to give a shout out to Gibson, one of the stellar employees. I was helping my SO get ready for Ranger school and get his packing list, and after pre-ranger, he had to refit for about half his list. We brought that in and Gibson offered right away to take us around the store to purchase all the items we wanted to get. He even checked off the items on our list for us as we went along. He gave tips and pointers heard by past students he's helped, and wasn't pushy about purchases- let us know where was the best place to get a good deal, whether it was next door at the regular Commandos or at Walmart. This place has great customer service and it starts the moment you step in the door. Commando's offers you a refreshing drink which is perfect on hot summer days. It doesn't stop there either. There are associates all over asking if you need help and continues to when you check out. Their selection is great, especially the boots. The employee service here is top notch. This is reflected in the simple polices such as offering a complimentary drink. They have all your military gear that you will need and if you cant find it, there are plenty of employees to quickly help you out. They also have pre-bundled gear for schools (OCS) that is real convenient, so you don't have to spend hours trying to find all your gear that you need. Commandos is very overpriced. However, they do have a cool policy where you are able to return any gear (unused) after your school even if it exceeds their standard 30 day policy. This only applies if you are in an Army school. BLUF: Great selection rivaling Ranger Joe's but not as expensive. Their discount store, within the same lot, has their Garmont boots. After having used Ranger Joe's website previously, I first went to their store to buy some equipment for Airborne School. However, I quickly noticed that prices were quite high there. For instance, a roll out bag that was on sale for $80 at the PX on post was marked as $120. As soon as you step into the store, an attendant offers you complementary water and soda to stay hydrate on while looking around the store. They house a wide selection of boots, uniforms, knives, etc. While I was in the store, I was specifically looking for a pair of Garmont T8 boots. I was told that only their discount store carried them which was down the street. I checked out with my uniforms and equipment I was carrying and heading down to their other shop. The customer service at Commando's is fantastic. There is always someone around to help you find what you are looking for and quickly at that! The employees know their gear and are friendly. Give them a try. read more

This place is great. As has been mentioned in previous reviews, the employee staff offers you a free bottle of water, soda or sports drink upon entering the store. They've actually done this since they opened their doors around 2003. Employees are super friendly and helpful, and there are plenty of them to go around. They have anywhere from 4-8 checkout registers opened at any given time. Fast check outs. They carry a very wide selection of products, all at competitive prices. They make dog tags on the spot (takes less than 3 minutes). Name tapes take a little long, but still under 3-4 hours. Plenty of uniform selections, patches, skill badges, gear, and general purpose camping and field equipment. Plenty of parking, but the turn in to the place is a little odd as the drive way is immediately after a red light and intersection. read more

I made a purchase from the discount store. As soon as I walked in the guy was so helpful. I had a limp and a hard time getting around and the guy was like, stay put he'll get everything I needed. He was so nice and helpful. I don't even think he charged me full price. I went back a couple of weeks later to purchase more items and looked at the price of the items I purchased initially and the difference was significant. I paid about $60 for a total of three items when one of the items was $100 alone. The second time I went back different guy, but the employee was just as nice and helpful. Staff make assumptions and inappropriate comments that customers do not approve of. They should not be assuming that the customers beliefs matches their own. It's not professional or courteous to think that. It makes customers feel uncomfortable. A training opportunity should be made available to ensure that political beliefs are not presented at the workplace. That includes not talking about politics to customers in the workplace. read more

Not doubt they have a good selection. Between my OCS endeavors and my husband going through IBOLC/Ranger, we've spent a small fortune at this establishment. So why is the customer service so lack luster? I've only experienced rude cashiers; when reported the management did absolutely nothing about it. They didn't have my shoulder boards so I ordered and paid for them. I went back to the store to pick them up; made to ask the woman at the register where to pick them up and she cut me off before I could finish my question, saying "the line is that way." SHE WASN'T EVEN HELPING SOMEONE! She was laughing with another employee who let this whole thing occur. When we're talking that kind of money, no thank you. This place is very provides convenience to pick up any gear you need for all the TRADOC schools for Fort Benning. However, it is extremely overpriced. The mark up is typically 1/3 over normal MSRP. I would recommend going to the PX or order your supplies online. The management team is horrible about resolving issues. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Ranger Joe's was okay and was the only option when I was here 30 years ago. I found Commando to be much neater, more organized, and the staff much more helpful. They had everything I needed to deploy - including some things Ranger Joe did not - at prices comparable or a little cheaper than Joes. My experience with Commando's is nothing but positive. The workers are always polite and attentive. In addition, they all pretty much have a good knowledge base on the gear and supplies you'll need for whatever the cause. I bought almost my entire Ranger School packing list here to include all of the necessary stitching. Only reason I didn't rate five starts is that some of the items are overpriced.
