The building is so nondescript you'd probably pass it by and not think twice. However, if you're looking for older items that the previous two surplus stores don't carry anymore, and that's including their discount shop, this is the place. The guys who work here are obviously military devotees, since they are former military themselves. Military history books abound and old uniforms are around from the recent ACU stuff to WWII era dress uniforms and mess kits. My classmate came here because he knew they'd have rank for the BDUs (the old service uniform that is slowly being phased out) and sure enough they did. Cheap too, he got a big pile of rank for two bucks. I was also looking for an older piece of equipment that was hard to find. I went to RJ's and Commando and I only found it at one place. I found plenty of them here for cheaper. Hard to find service items or vintage era patches and memorabilia seems to be the specialty. I think I might buy an ammo can here, just for fun.

It's impressive how creative he and his staff is. You present the problem they are going to solve it and they won't stop trying until you are satisfied. On top of that, he is priced extremely fair and you can tell him and his staff genuinely want to just help you succeed however they can. There are many surplus stores in Columbus. And they are all great. The thing that separates Gibson's is that it is like a family there. They know your name they know your situation and they are invested in your career. To the point where Gibson shaved his head when one of his customers graduated from ranger school.

These surplus and mods are offered at a great price which are reasonable for lower enlisted. You can go in and ask for assistance for any army school, from air assault to ibolc to ranger school and the staff will have helpful advice for you to succeed as well accompanying gear to assist you.

STOP GOING HERE Went…read morein looking for stuff to turn in to CIF. I tried picking gear that needed some cleaning to save money. I was wrong. Tried to wheel and deal but there was zero wiggle room on obviously used and abused gear. I was told "We get these straight from the manufacturer," all while I'm looking at large rust patches and wear. The guy offered to get me brand new items. That was nice but the price was still high. Of the 7 small things I wanted I left with 2 canteens and 2 canteen pouches, less money, and a sour taste for the store and the gentleman behind the counter. He did stick to his guns, there was no way I was going to leave with that used equipment for anything less than what a brand new item cost. I went down the street, passed ranger joes and turned into Tier 1 supply. This is what a surplus store is supposed to be. Friendly folks behind the counter instantly said if you got stuff to trade we do that. I got everything I needed with a couple extra things cif wouldn't take from me. Even before the trade, the price for all 7 things (2 sustainment pouches, 2 2qrt canteens, 2 2qrt covers, small stuff sack) I needed was half the price of Commandos. Tier 1 even gave me free donuts as I left. Immediately returned to Commandos to return $45 worth of canteens. Like are you kidding me.

I have been to this thrift mall - and all the others in Columbus. My impression is, these thrift…read moremalls are loaded with a lot of stuff people don't want to sell. I suspect the prices are so high to cover the rent and realize a profit. Books are so WAY overpriced I can't believe it. For a buck I can load up on brand new books at Dollar Tree - often very good titles and authors. And Goodwill and Valley rescue Mission have great selections. If you're into history, a lot of books from the hoi polloi at Fort Benning end up in these places. Many excellent titles. Granted, for a buck old VHS tapes can be a steal and you can swoop on some excellent titles. Most of the tapes I get still play with no problem. But I never buy DVDs because they usually don't let you open and check for scratches or other defects. Yard sales are a much better option for those predisposed to going 'junking'...

The staff was so helpful. The owner actually took the time to come out to the house and see what I had of value.(I was totally surprised that some things that I thought were junk, were really valuable!) I paid the loan off and all of my stuff was returned in perfect condition. The staff was courteous and very knowledgeable about the items I brought in. I would definitely do business with them again!
