The collard greens were superb and the slice turkey was soooo tender. My husband had the beef brisket and sausage. He says that the sausage was ok but the beef brisket more than made up for that. Texas Philly cheesesteak was definitely decent and seasoned and fresh. I also enjoyed my okra and the fraud Street corn was delicious as well. I just wish that they didn't actually cut it up. This may be the worst Mac n cheese I've ever had from a restaurant. Short review: Flavorless and dry food and I never need to come here again. Long review: It's the 4th of July and I had a taste for bbq, but didn't feel like breaking out the grill. I knew this place opened up nearby in the last year or so and I wanted to give them a shot. So I placed a phone order and went straight home to dig in. I don't know if I've ever been more disappointed! Pork Butt Sandwich - 2 stars: it's listed on the menu as "pulled to order" but it is definitely chopped. There are perfect squares of meat covering the sandwich which couldn't have been pulled. The meat is dry and absolutely NEEDS sauce. Once you add it, the sandwich is at least edible. BBQ Baked Beans - 2 stars: it's more of a pinto bean soup. When I think of BBQ baked beans, I think of rich and hearty flavor, a smoky taste from the added meat, and a thick sauce binding it all together. This was more like Brunswick stew with bits of hamburger and extra beans. Edible, but not good. Mac and Queso - 0 stars: when I hear the term queso, I imagine a rich and creamy cheese that will be covering the macaroni. I assumed it would have a slight kick to it, and really amp up the classic Mac and cheese dish. Boy was I wrong!! I don't know if I got the last scraps from the pan, but the cheese on this dish was non-existent! It was old and dry pasta and I honestly don't know how a chef could allow it to come out of their kitchen. I literally grabbed a square of American cheese, melted it and added it (along with a lot of salt & pepper) just to make it edible. It was still gross, by the way... Been running past this place weekly for a while and finally have it a try. I was impressed for sure. It was crowded on Saturday night but seemed to have a nice draft selection and array of eating. Sports on TV and friendly staff. Ordered the sausage plate with okra and creamed corn. The corn was spicy but so good! Def getting that again. BBQ sauce could use a kick so I added some myself. That was freakin' fantastic. And frankly, you had me at the words "Texas Barbecue." The smells inside warmed me in seductive ways. And when I heard the waitress recommend the brisket, my heart grew three sizes. My friend and I sat outside, undaunted by some chilly winds, and thoroughly enjoyed some chopped brisket and some mac & queso. I had the sandwich, which you can get on a Vidalia onion bun or a plain bun. It comes with a bag of chips, but you can upgrade that to the side of your choice for $1. I got some mac. My friend got the brisket plate. She got some green beans in addition to her mac. The brisket was perfect. The right coloration and the right flavor all by itself. Didn't need the sauce, but the house sauce (sweet) was quite good. The mac is everything good comfort food should be. If I get it right, they're using some nice Cavatappi tubes drenched in some good cheesiness. Totally hit the spot. I think Ford's will remain a welcome addition to the Tucker landscape for a while. I live in the no-man's land of North DeKalb, where Chamblee, Doraville, and Tucker all kind of mix together. There's a plethora of amazing dining options, especially considering what's available on Buford Highway alone. I love eating great tacos, Korean BBQ, sushi, and ramen all available in spades near me, but there's something about Ford's BBQ that brings me in on a regular basis, usually every few months I'm there. I can't say that for any other restaurant I frequent. The BBQ is pretty good. My favorites are the brisket, sausage, and turkey. Although, if you get there later in the evening, Ford's is sometimes out of certain items. But that's never been a problem for me. The non-BBQ items are fantastic, even the vegetarian options. Tonight, I had the Smoked Beet Cubano sandwich, and it was filling and very tasty. I also highly suggest the Sausage Torta. The Birria Tacos are always great too. While I do like Southern style BBQ, but I'm really digging the Tex-Mex spin on BBQ. And it pairs nicely with cold beer, Ranch Water, or a Margarita. Also, the Bloody Mary is fantastic! We tried Ford's on an weekend afternoon and may not go back. The brisket was disappointingly dry as well as the wings, but tasty. (I steamed some leftover brisket in the microwave the next day and it was much better.) The portions are very large, too much so really. Finally great barbecue in the area. We go there at least once a week. Highly recommend/my favorites- smokehouse nachos, Yardbird sandwich and the Texas cheesesteak. Everyone is great staff is friendly, local owner - shout out to my favorite bartender Maddie and server MacKenna (I think I spelled both those right). Good seating inside, great bar "with a view" to the patio which is our favorite...love the patio. Beer is always cold. Sopapillas for dessert - go home happy! The salad was the best part... half rack of ribs were not dry, just super fatty and I believe our ribs were mismatched with other ribs.... not a good look. Server is too busy taking care of a toddler and talking with other workers to notice our drinks are low, booth seats are uncomfortable and sinking like it was a bean bag jamboree... was never asked for a refill and out of the 10 questions I had about the food, I don't think that particular waitress could tell me the difference between a pork rib and a beef rib. The worst experience. I hear the food is good. But, service is punitive. We asked for service after 30 minutes. A waitress came and took away some of the dirty dishes. 10-15 minutes later 3 waitresses came out and cleaned three empty tables. After that rudeness, we just gave up. Another lady who the hostess had seated behind us said she'd been sitting for an additional 15 minutes to us. Usually, I'm willing to give a place a second chance. Both myself and my friend agreed, she even perfectly described it as gentrified bbq. I had a platter to try things and it was mostly just flat out bad. First trip to Ford's BBQ. Was really wanting to like this place, and we did like the vibe and the service, but things went downhill from there. We ordered the BBQ Poutine as an appetizer. Having had poutine in Quebec and other places, we were looking forward to it. It wasn't bad, but it would be more accurate to call it BBQ Fries, or something like that. It was curly fries, covered in queso and chopped pork. Again, not bad, but poutine as I've had it before is fries, a spicy brown gravy and cheese curds. We both ordered sandwich platters, one brisket, one pulled pork. The pulled pork was ok, more chopped than pulled and a bit too much fat. You can find better pork around here. The brisket was just not very good. Do not take Texans to this place. As for the sides, the fried okra was great, except for one detail, some pieces had no salt, other pieces were almost too salty to eat. Not much in between. Fortunately, most fell in the too little salt range. Whoever fried it, did it perfectly, not a lot of batter, and you could still taste the okra inside. The Brunswick stew was decent, as were the cowboy beans and mac and cheese. They were out of the creamed corn and green beans. I got the turkey platter. I usually get this when I do go to Fords for $20. They usually give you a decent amount of meat. It was supposed to be a half pound of turkey but as you can see it is not and when I took it back to the store the lady at the bar wouldn't even look at it or try to resolve the issue she just told me there's nothing she could do. I guess because I'm a black female they don't give us the same respect. My mom also went there before and they gave her order to a man then told her they sold out of wings after she had ordered and paid, and yes she did order before that gentleman. We brought my family from out of town and had to wait 30 mins for drinks and over an hour for our food. They have also been out of half there menu multiple times. An excellent stop in downtown Tucker. Good variety in the menu and the staff were friendly and helpful. One of the better BBQ spots in the area. The location is good for those in and around Tucker and the inside is warm and inviting. It was cold when I visited but there was patio space for nice nights.
