Squirrel Squad Builders - Replaced porch structure with new integrated retaining wall and rebar anchors

I needed my front door repaired. The brass hinges were tearing out of the jamb due to the age and…read moreweight of the door. It was binding and dragging on the threshold at all times and especially impossible to shut in the summer when swollen with humidity. This is a really beautiful and heavy 80-year-old legacy wooden door and I wanted to keep it. Just a door, not a big problem to fix, you might say. But you'd be mistaken. Most companies wanted to tear out the whole door, frame included, and replace it with a new steel one. No thanks. Other handymen wanted to tear out and then replace the frame/jamb and rehang the door; lots of demolition work, and expensive. And then came Anthony and Carrie of Squirrel Squad. They were totally on my wavelength: save the door, no unnecessary demolition, and *fix the problem*. Anthony showed up with Harry, raised and then reseated the three hinges, and in under two hours the door was saved, opening and shutting like a dream. Like all true experts, they made a problematic job look easy. Their skill set and level of expertise is amazing. I was also humbled by how reasonably they priced the job. I have at least three more projects to complete before year's end and will gladly and confidently hire Squirrel Squad for all of them. Sincerely, look no further. Anthony recommended installing vinyl wood trim around my door that faces west and is in the sun and wind all year long. Very pleased with the work done. Pictures show it better. Thank you Anthony I will keep you in my contacts for a handy person with great coworkersfor future projects. Highly recommend!

I have used Gentile's in the past for my kitchen floor, and that went very well without incident…read more Recently, I went back for tile floor to be installed in my bathroom. I have mixed emotions about Gentiles regarding this most recent experience. In the end, it all worked out well and good. There's a new beautiful floor in my bathroom as of right now. The process in getting there was a bit rocky. First, picking out tile in the showroom (unassuming show room, with the nasty stale smell of cigarettes). The people working there have a kind of laid back personality and don't give you the hard sell. This is true EXCEPT when picking out the kind of tile which just HAS to be porcelain. Don't know why but you get a million reasons why to choose porcelain instead of another material, but NO ONE tells you that aside from diamonds, the material is one of the hardest substances on the face of the planet. No one, tells you that drilling new holes for the toilet flange will be a nightmare unless you own a diamond bit drill (who does???). Thankfully, the gentleman who did the installation was kind enough to use his own tools (and wreck them in the process) to help me get the toilet flange anchored to the floor. Second, the issue of grout. Thomas the installer will drive home the use of the neutral gray and tell you that the colors people pick of their grout never turns out the color they expect it to. This fact needs to be re-inforced by the showroom salespeople. Choosing the color for the grout, I thought I had a perfect pick. Unfortunately, after mixing the grout with the latex enhancer/sealer (recommended I get, I had no idea what it was for) the grout dries 5x lighter than the shade you think it will. It also causes the grout to dry super fast and adhere to the tile face itself before you can wipe it off with a sponge leaving residue in the nooks/crannies of the tiles. Very disappointing. Luckily, again, Thomas was patient enough to come back to help rectify the problem. He brought a grout residue remover and with a LOT of elbow grease, was able to take the remaining grout off the tiles. The product also did have a darkening effect on the grout lines which helped bring it closer to the original color I had in mind when I chose it. He also recommended a natural stone enhancer product that might further adjust the grout to the color I expected it to look like. I haven't gotten the product yet, but don't think I will need to. Mostly, I am grateful for Thomas the tile installer. He is a perfectionist to a fault (almost). But if it wasn't for him, I'd have no toilet in my bathroom and grout remnants on the tiles. The sales people at Gentiles need to be more forthcoming about what to expect when choosing porcelain tile and colored grout.
