Im really sad to write this review because I really hate to complain and was excited to try this place. Came here with my friend and we ordered three things: the duck and dumplings, the tuna poke, and the burrata. I hate to say that this was a very underwhelming meal. So much so, that we ended up saying something. The service was great and everything was fine about the restaurant but the duck and dumplings had weird cartilage and just overall not that great, the burrata tasted incredibly store bought and then it came out on a bed of lettuce that was soggy and gross. The tuna poke is really what sealed it for us. The entire dish was ice cold. The rice was hard, and the tuna just tasted sort of odd, and you really can't mess with raw fish. I hope this is just a fluke night since I've heard such great things. But can't say I'll be back anytime soon Edit: after I posted this I wanted to add some more details about the experience and change the rating. After we asked to have the tuna poke removed because the tuna was definitely not okay. The manager did say she would take the app off the bill. We thanked her for that and said everything else was fine. But then, she carried the plate around the restaurant for a good 5 minutes talking to different wait staff and we watched her stick her entire hand down her pants at one point while holding our food that we gave her. Just kinda gross to see I guess. After we left we both started to feel kind of nauseous and annoyed about the experience. I will say that neither of us are deathly ill or claiming food poisoning, but we both feel pretty unwell and sick after. read more

I've had my eye on trying this place since it opened but I don't hang around Easton much. Parking around here is interesting. There are parallel spots but there's actually a large parking lot by Beeline and RH Rooftop. You can also find parking garages easily too. We had made a reservation for 6 on a Friday. Tons of people were here! But it's LARGE. Super high ceilings and tons of tables everywhere. Outside and inside. There was also an upstairs but I'm not sure if there was seating. We ordered a few apps: brussel sprouts, cauliflower queso with chips, jalapeño and cheese bread, BBQ chips and hummus. It was all very delicious although the queso and chips were phenomenal! I would order that again! I also shared a kale salad with my sister, while my friends ordered the spinach salad, wings, meatloaf, and veggie burger. Everyone loved the food! I also got a beer flight. Location is convenient to the freeway for travelers in the Easton shopping area. Staff super nice. Surprisingly creative menu for a brewery. Coming from a town like Cincinnati which is rich in brewery history the beer was good. It was nice to see some collaborations with our breweries! read more

Quickly becoming one of my go to recommendations for the Easton area. One of the high selling points being the access to the parking lot that's right nearby. I left for a year and came back to a wonderful area at Easton having cropped up! This restaurant is large and inviting. I loved the tall ceilings and industrial-styled setting. It was so to make a reservation through the Yelp app and I was seated right away by a cheery staff member. FR has a great selection of drinks. I opted to try their heferweizen which was strawberry Basil flavored and very refreshing. I also tried a charcuterie plate and it was delicious! Everything was fresh and unique. For my main course, I went with the duck and dumplings. It was excellent and a perfect choice on a chilly night. Our waiter was awesome and very attentive. Brief wait for a table on a busy Saturday night. Not a huge menu, but a few unusual items. Hubby had cheeseburger with fries. I had duck with ricotta dumplings. Good, excellent broth, but portion size was dominated by gnocchi and could have used more duck. That was it, other than a few pieces of celery, peas and carrots. A crusty piece of bread would have been a welcome addition to sop up the broth. Hubby has his burger ordered medium. He got a few bites into it, and found it quite uncooked and pink. I love the decor of this place and the menu and bar menu is pretty unique. We had a bunch of their smaller plates: chicken wings, brussel sprouts, popcorn, and a couple other things I can't really remember. I can say that we overall enjoyed the food. It was probably just a little too salty for my liking but I'm sure there are others who love the amount of salt. So for the food alone, I'd give them 4 stars. Where I think they're a little bit lacking is their service. I'm not sure if we just got a grumpy/sassy guy (worked in the bar area when we were there) but he just seemed a little rushed and short. There was no warmth and pretty much was annoyed that we'd even ask about the food in more detail. In fact, it was probably him that just made us do appetizers instead of actually ordering a main course. With that said, I'd probably come back and try this place again as I'm sure the server was just having a bad night at the food was worth a try again. We stopped here after a flight into Columbus and I'm so happy we did. The food was incredible and the drink prices were too. We were lucky because we happened to come in on a day (Thursday) where all of the cans from the brewery were only $4. They had a beautiful selections of cocktail, beers, shots, and wines. The food menu had many different shareable plates as well as some incredible sounding entrees. My boyfriend and I ordered a beer. I went with a delicious Strawberry Basil beer that was crisp and refreshing and my boyfriend snagged an IPA, his favorite. We ordered three different dishes, all to share. We shared with the Cheese & Charcuterie board with six options. The Iberico chorizo was my absolute favorite! So Smokey and a little spice, perfect. We went early last Saturday and the restaurant was pretty open. We went for drinks after brunch at another restaurant and when we first went in the hostess said we could sit anywhere. Once we got our drinks at the bar and went to sit down somewhere some guy in a green shirt, who I would assume might be the GM, walked up to us and told us we couldn't sit at a table in a very nasty tone and we would have to go have the hostess seat us. It was quite empty so we were confused on why he would care that much especially since the hostess already told us we were ok. The rest of the time we were there he kept watching us and that made us quite uncomfortable. I don't want to assume anything but that was very strange we were the only ones being treated like that. Easton offers so many different good food options, and Forbidden Root is no exception. We've already made a second and third trip since our first experience was so amazing. If you get any appetizers, make sure the chili crunch hummus is one of them -- it's served with the most addicting wonton "chips," fresh seasonal veggies, and of course the chili oil to top off the hummus. It's a silky, luxurious hummus that spices up the veggies but isn't too filling before your meal. And don't get me started on the wontons... I could polish off about a thousand of them without question. The beef bulgogi "reuben" caught my eye immediately and I just had to try it (sans sauerkraut, sorry y'all). This sandwich knocked my socks off, I couldn't believe how good it was!! The beef was flavorful and tender, married with ooey gooey melty cheese, a gochujang mayo (someone bottle this please?!) and toasty rye bread. Oh, and Forbidden Root's fries? I had higher expectations for Forbidden Root but was not impressed by our experience here. We choose forbidden root to jump start my bridal shower weekend. I'll start by saying the service was extremely rushed, the server brought out incorrect drinks but didn't fix them just made it seem like we were supposed to be happy they even gave us a drink. I didn't find any of the beers to be extremely good or something I would want to come back to get again. As an appetizer we ordered the pork and sauerkraut ball, the lasagna dip and jalapeño cheese bread. The best thing I ate all night was the pork and sauerkraut balls. They were delicious and flavorful, I wish I had more. For dinner we ordered the beer braised pork shank and the duck and dumplings (which was the whole reason I chose this restaurant) it was good, reminded me of a ragu but it was lacking in flavor. Before we were even fully done eating the waitress was over there picking up our plates of food to clean the table. I just found this extremely rude and off putting. We finished off the meal with carrot cake which was okay but dry. Sadly, since they charge an automatic 21% tip for parties that big, I believe the waitress poorly served us on purpose. Overall, I would be hesitant to come here for a nice occasion ever and I don't think I would come back here for dinner. We tried the sauerkraut balls ($8) after seeing other reviews, they were fantastic! A crisp exterior and creamy center full of pork, sauerkraut and creamy goodness with a mustard-based dipping Highly recommended! My husband ordered the FR Reuben ($15) with a side of Brussels sprouts (+1). He thought the Reuben was fantastic! The corn beef was cut thick and delicious, just the right ratio of sauerkraut and dressing. It was tangy, a really nice balance of flavors. The Brussels sprouts were just a touch oily, they were good overall- they weren't overcooked or burned. I ordered the FR Burger ($16) with chips (+$1). The chips were crisp and seasoned with dill and malt vinegar, very nice. The burger would probably be even better in person as the bun was a little moist and the sauce had leaked out into the wrap. Overall it was good. We also ordered the Lazer Pants Triple IPA 4 pack. It arrived cold and had nice hoppy and malty well-balanced notes. Another treat, we ordered the warm bread pudding to share. It was warm, moist and delicious-topped with apple cubes. You could taste the Chinese 5-spice and it wasn't too sweet.
