Great store to get souvenirs and gifts for all ages. The have fresh fudge and salt water Taffy. Their Taffy is really good.

Bottom Line: Taffy, fudge, candy and beach souvenirs. Forbes is famous for its salt water taffy but I went for some fudge. They had a variety of flavors and I thought the prices were reasonable compared to another fudge shop I used to visit. The employees were helpful and we were quickly on our way. With COVID we didn't do too much browsing on this recent trip but beyond candy, Forbes does also sell various souvenirs and beach trinkets. Regarding the taffy, I like that you can buy it in bulk and make your own mix. Forbes has been making candy since the 1930s and they have nine locations in Virginia and North Carolina. read more

I didn't personally visit the store. G went to the Outer Banks and was so sweet to bring me back some salt water taffy! I was a bit hesitant to try these at first. I had two previous salt water taffy experiences (not from here) and they weren't positive. The taffy I tried awhile back was rock hard and lacked flavor. These on the other hand were delicious! Super fresh, soft, nice chew, and flavorful. I love all the fun colors and there's plenty in a box to share with all. I'm grateful for this yummy surprise! Thanks G :) read more

I was profiled by the lady at the counter while getting ice cream for my kids. I've never been asked to show ID while using my card except by the lady at the counter with red hair. I watched 2 customers pay before me without her asking for ID. She definitely judged me by the way I look. Other than that it's bogus overpriced tourist trap & you can keep it that way I will take my local money and spend it at a local business. Shame on you read more

Seriously rude employee. I'm holding the door open for my elderly father and this employee coming from the outside the store literally tried to jam between us trying to get in. He was behind me and literally jumped between us. I almost tripped over him because he was stepping in the middle of us. I literally had to back up, step back out of the store let him through and then enter the store myself. Who is the customer here? Why was he literally stepping between customers and shoving me out of the way? Because he was too busy playing with his coffee. He was in a rush to make a beverage...which he promptly brought to the front register to drink laughing all the way. No "please", no "thank you", no "can you hold the door"....not a PEEP....just a young man with no manners, let alone any customer service skills. I don't appreciate being cutoff and stepped on by your employee. I left with nothing. I'll take my money elsewhere. The people who were getting taffy are getting something else. Of the several Forbes locations up and down the Outer Banks this one is the best. It's not just because this location is the biggest (it is), or that it offers more discounted items (it does) or the likelihood of discovering the odd throwback souvenir from yesteryear tucked in among their newer stuff is greater here (though it is). This Forbes is not superior to the others because you'll find a larger candy selection here (though you will), or a bigger, better pirate's corner (that they have), or a more offensive selection of "redneck" souvenirs (I suwanee). No, this Forbes is *the* Forbes because it's in Nags Head, which means you'll find *the* nag on premises. Look for the old drifter outside, on the south side of the building. Jump on its back and take a picture, then go inside and get yourself some taffy and a giant capiz shell wind chime, etc. You'll be glad you did. read more

Visited this store on my trip to the OBX September 2022 and had a bad experience with the staff. The fudge was tasty so I decided to give them another shot yesterday. The fudge was listed for $16.99 a pound and was cut in long rectangular pieces. I politely asked for one piece of the chocolate walnut in one box and a piece of the brownie batter in another box. Before I even finished speaking, I was cut off by the employee assisting me as well as another employee who jumped into the conversation and rudely told me I couldn't order by the piece and I couldn't have 2 boxes. Honestly I didn't know what to say as I was so shocked at how I was spoken to as a polite paying customer...not for nothing but there's no signs indicating how large each piece is. Upon asking I was informed they're each 1/4 of a pound. I increased my order to 1/2 pound of each flavor (2 pieces of each) and requested 2 boxes as one is a gift for someone and one was for me. Was given one box with all the fudge in it. Both employees extremely rude. Honestly not sure how they have stayed in business when something as simple as ordering some fudge is a catastrophic event for them. After 2 terrible customer service experiences I will not return here. The check out assistant was at least very nice. read more

This place used to have great fudge. We stopped in and the hubs picked up some fudge (at about $14/pound(!)) We got back to the house and had a piece. It's stale and not very good. Can hardly taste any chocolate in it. Unfortunately it can't be returned, of course. I'm annoyed that we wasted the money. read more

This is a cute store with souvenirs, candy and decorations. It's can be pricey, but the candy is worth it. They have multiple locations along Croatan highway. Staff are pretty friendly and are willing to help. The last time we got candy there, it didn't last long enough to make it home. Decent fudge, definitely on the pricey side at $12.95/pound. Cute collection of souvenirs and shirts but staff totally lacked customer service. I was surprised by the way they treated the family before us and our attempts to be extra polite didn't go over well, either. Nice ladies at the counter. Nice `by the lb` taffy selection allows for more fresh flavors than boxed style. Yes it has kitschy old school beach souvenirs from the past as well as decent priced trinkets from the now,but I am here for candy. Taffy VERY fresh and good and was enjoyed by our 14 housemates. Nice selection for dog snacks as well, if you get a chance for any Forbes in the OBX this is the one to go to read more

I was on a search to get fudge on my recent beach trip in the off season. This was the only place open that had fudge so I bought it without trying it first. Yikes! It was the worst fudge I have ever had. I got a slice of the snickers fudge and two of the chocolate peanut butter. I ended up throwing it away. read more
