I always shop here on my annual OBX vacation. There is such a vast selection and I never leave without a bagful.

Bottom Line: Cotton linens, clothing, home decor, women's accessories and other goodies fill this location to the gills. Funny enough my husband wanted to go to The Cotton Gin to shop for Vineyard Vines clothing. I had planned to sit the shopping trip out but next thing I know I'm checking out at Cotton Gin with a new puzzle, bracelet, Christmas ornament, candy and bag. Just when I didn't think I needed anything I managed to find a variety of things at Cotton Gin. As indicated by this anecdote, The Cotton Gin sells a variety of stuff and it's fun to wander through the various rooms of the two level store. Although I most commonly come away with beachy souvenirs it is worth noting that they have high end cotton products like towels, quilts, and such. A very beautiful beach store- they have so much variety (clothes, décor, accessories, random goodies, etc). It could be a shopper's haven but do note...they provide high-end shopping products-so be prepared for big price-tags. But anyways.....shopping here wasn't our objective; we only went for the Sanctuary Vineyard wine tasting station. They offered 6 wines under a 'free tasting' list, including one white, one rose, one dry red, and a few sweet wines. Then they had a $5 tasting list for special wines, including two whites, two reds, and a sangria base. We decided to run through both lists. The guy pouring the wine was quite knowledgeable on Sanctuary. He provided fun details about each bottle (i.e how the wine was made, tidbits about the labels & names, and flavor profiles). The wines were quite good; the whites had a nice crisp profile, in which we could taste the grape varietals within each varied blend, and we ended up buying a Wild Pony White. The reds, while lighter than we tend to enjoy, were very smooth. My woe with the experience was we paid $5 to taste the additional 5 wines on the list. We started the tasting, but when we got to the second wine on the list, we were told they were missing the next two wines on the list. They had no alternative, 'taste this' options, get more of another pour, etc, and yet we still had to pay for the 'whole paid experience'-it felt like kind of a rip-off. we should have just done the free tasting and called it a day instead of paying to anticipate trying stuff they didn't have. read more

The 2 curly hair boys that work up front are very rude. They will sit there and talk and when you ask them for help they are very rude. I would not recommend giving this store your money. Or time read more

This store carries such fun beach gifts, collectibles, jewelry, and home decor, it is hard to walk out without a couple of shopping bags. They have unique clothes, and is so much fun to shop. It is my #1 store in Outer Banks. read more

If you're a guy, just don't go inside because there is little, if anything, for you. There is just a ton of disorganized merchandise scattered all over the place. There was nothing in the whole store that I considered even buying. I will say it's nice that they have wine tastings. The shop is for a niche market. read more

The service the past 2 times I have shopped at this business has been absolutely abysmal. This is all centered around the short haired older lady who seems to be the only worker that I've had the misfortune of crossing. The first time, it was simply dirty looks, and an obvious indifference to help us find anything we asked for. However, yesterday this lady truly outdid herself. When my girlfriend and her mom visited the Cotton Gin for a wine tasting, her service was nothing short of appalling. The lady when asked "what wine is this?" She said "oh, I don't know. They're all the same grapes, what does it matter?" Refusing to show my girlfriend and her mom the labels. She then asked my girlfriend what she wants to do with her life ( not knowledgeable that she is visiting for her celebration of becoming a nurse) then berating her saying "you don't know what it's like to struggle in life, one day life is going to smack you upside the head." She held up a similar attitude the entire time they tried their wines, might I add, refilling their wines into the same glass with no washing out, or new glasses provided or even offered. This store was once a wonderful place, but because of this lady's consistent existence at this store, the overall value has dropped through the floor. I heavily recommend the Duck location so that you may have a good experience at this store, instead of insulted for being young, and given dirty looks for shopping in a store. read more

I have never been treated like I was by a sales person until We stopped in to purchase jewelry and was treated as we were bothering the sales lady she was very snappy rude and condescending to us. The only reason we purchased the item's was because they are the only store that had the jewelry we were looking for.I don't know if she was the manager or just a employee but I will not purchase anything else if she is behind the counter. read more

Such a great store filled with beach-treasures that are far from your typical "trashy" souvenirs. We collect European glass ornaments, and the Cotton Gin has a great collection of Old World and Radko ornaments - many of them beach-themed which is a great way to preserve your vacation memories year after year. We always drop quite a bit of money here on ornaments. The staff is great here as well - very sweet older women usually at the register. My only complaint would be that this store is VERY full of merchandise - which adds to the charm to me. However, I saw a lady with a walker who was having an extremely tough time navigating the store, which I didn't think was cool at all. ADA has regulations for 36 - 48" aisle widths so that ALL can have access. I think they should make more of an effort. But all-in-all, I love this store and hope I'm not in a wheelchair anytime soon so I can continue to enjoy it! read more

I feel in love with an item when I was there for business, but I didn't want to spend the money on myself at Christmas time. I got home and decided that I really wanted to get it. I called the shop and the lady that waited on me while I was there remembered me. She took time out of her day to go have it weighed so she could tell much it was going to cost to ship it. I ended up purchasing the item. May thanks for the great customer service I received. read more

My husband and I just stopped in at the Cotton Gin to find some home decor and to do the Sanctuary wine tasting. The ladies working there were very rude and stuck up. I had a few questions throughout our visit and each time I stopped to ask they acted like I was bothering them. The customer service was non existent. Then I asked to use the restroom and one of the ladies said "it's out of order" in a strange tone. "You can go next store or to the Food lion." Her tone was so rude and condescending. I also felt like the "out of the order" reply wasn't truthful. On the way out I saw a sign that said public restroom not available. Why did she have to lie? So strange. A so called high end store with no customer service and so disorganized that I needed instructions On how to navigate. We refused to spend our money here and left. read more

I love this place! They have everything! You will not leave empty handed. Don't bring a big handbag because the aisles are small. This way you can go down all the aisles and see everything. If your husband gets tired of walking around with you... he will.. there are rockers outside on the porch. :) read more

Really cool gift shop, that is one of a kind. They had all kinds of souvenir options. I highly recommend stopping in if you're in the area.

Stopped in to peruse to kill a few minutes of time. Grabbed a souvenir magnet and stood in line. There were two ladies at the counter serving two customers before me. The ladies were very rude, condescending and downright disrespectful to the perfectly nice customers ahead of me. I almost left my magnet on the counter and walked out. As there are several stores like this in the area, I would recommend anywhere else. read more

Out of the many Cotton Gin locations at the Outer Banks, this one is my favorite. It holds many fond memories for me from childhood trips to the beach with family as well as new experiences every year. This store is jam packed with stuff. You'll want to make several laps around the many corners and halls to make sure you haven't missed anything. You won't leave empty handed! read more

A store full of items that i would have loved to be able to look at and enjoy. I have never felt more unwelcome and like a burden in a store than i did here. Not one single person said hi to me or asked me if there was anything they could help me with. Not one person asked me if i was looking for something in particular or even acted like i existed in that store. I had my kids and husband with me and they all said the same thing. At one point I was struggling to reach a shirt in the top rack when an employee walked right by me and looked at me and kept walking. We left and went to another store to purchase items. I refuse to give money to a store that can't be pleasant and courteous to its customers, who in reality are the ones who pay their bills. My recommendation would be to not even waste your time here and go to the farmers daughter just down the street. They were incredibly friendly, helpful and a much better experience. read more

This is one of the best gift shops in the OBX. They have interesting home decor, a large selection of cool t-shirts, a second floor that is entirely christmas stuff, and even free wine tastings from Sanctuary Vineyards. The Cotton Gin isn't a wine shop but they do carry the full lineup from Sanctuary. If you like white wine the Sweet Serenity was the favorite of my girlfriend and I's. The service here was good and though the prices were a tad higher than ideal on some of the items the shop overall was great and I'm glad I had the chance to stop by. read more

Great shop! Lots of fun stuff with out the touristy nonsense. Also, they have a super cute Christmas section! I got a ring for $6, a back scratcher with a duck on the handle for $4 and great postcards for $0.25 each! read more

The Cotton Gin is the place to be if you're looking to feel claustrophobic and wait in uncomfortably long lines. Overall some things were nice but the vast majority were trash and junk and while I understand these places are a staple at vacation destinations they should employ enough cashiers to handle this load. read more

Very nice store, friendly staff. Went down the past weekend for a family reunion. Great store, very nice things for vacation memories. Me, my brother, son and son's friend (teenagers) ALL walked out with something. Love the tee shirts and hooded sweatshirts with the Nags Head and Outerbanks logos. LOADED with Vera Bradley merchandise!!!!! Even got two bottles of wine from the wine room. All and all I highly recommend this business to vacationers in the area. read more

This is a great souvenir/cool stuff shop. I can guarantee you will find something for everyone and anyone at this place. Merchandise is fairly priced as well. The store is seemingly endless, each room leads to more sections. You could easily spend at least an hour here. There is also a wine cellar. read more
