It was interesting that they were having a "silver polishing party" while I was there. All of the ring trays were on top of the class counters and polishing was going on. Good sign! Other than jewelry, there was clothing, mugs, seashells, Christmas ornaments, etc.

The business has been slow for the past few months, but it is picking back up. The jewelry store and the Donuts On A Stick are owned by the same man. I have meet him before, but I did not see him today. Today Lisa was the employee in charge. The dog in the picture is the real boss. The service here is always excellent from when I have been here. The merchandise here is lovely and I almost bought something for myself. I might do aquire something here one day, but I will have to give it some thought. I am sure we will be back here before we leave next Sunday or Saturday. Until then, this place is one of my favorite stores in Duck North Carolina.

The store is mainly packed full of trendy and typical beach souvenirs and clothing but there are some exceptions. I put the stacks of Salt Life, Fish Hippie and Simply Southern tshirts in the trendy/typical category. Some of the nicer items that caught my item were Yeti containers, Southern Tide menswear and Cobian flip flops. In the past I have been a big fan of Farmer's Daughters jewelry but that wasn't very shoppable this time around as it was hard to get to the cases. With the challenges that COVID-19 have created for small businesses I tried to give them a fair shake while vacationing in the Outer Banks for a few weeks but Farmer's Daughter left me disappointed. The store was just as cramped as ever with merchandise spilling over into the aisles. And the employees were less than welcoming. One employee pushed past me, literally, to get back to her restocking task at the jewelry counter. And the employee who rang me up only said four words - "twenty-seven seventy-four."

I also think the name is very cute. Shipwreck is an Outer Banks staple that has been in business for decades. They have tons of sea shells and driftwood. They also have jewelry, ornaments, home decor and toys all inspired by the Outer Banks. For those looking for hermit crabs, they have those too! For vacationers wanting a great beach souvenir shopping experience, Shipwreck is a good place to check out!

On the day that I visited, the employee working was warm, welcoming, and kind. She directed me to a table of merchandise that was on sale, and told me about some other deals going on in the shop. I spend a good 20 minutes wandering, taking everything in. Although there was a lot to choose from, I ultimately ended up leaving empty handed. There were a lot of beautiful selections, but at the end of the day I felt that the price of most items was a little too high to justify the purchase. Even for shops in this genre where you'd expect higher price points (independent spiritual shops in small towns that feature a decent selection of locally-sourced merchandise from local artisans), the prices felt a bit high. That all being said, I would imagine that there is a customer base of folks living in or visiting the Outer Banks who could more easily swing the higher price point than I could. If you're in the area and spiritual shops are your thing, this place is definitely work a visit.

The exterior of the building is nicely maintained and upon walking in the store I was totally mesmerized at all of the stuff to look at. They have tons of yard flags and other cute little knock knacks to stick in the garden. They also carry a variety of OBX souvenirs, Christmas ornaments and other knick knacks. We thought it was going to rain today in OBX, so we planned for a no beach, indoor activities kinda…read moreday. This place was a great afternoon break for our kiddos. You pick your shirt (i.e. t-shirt, tank, love sleeve, dress, onesie, etc.), put on some gloves, a smock and get to "dyin." The store sends you home with washing and care instructions. IMO, it is on the pricey side, but overall, our group had a good time and the girl there was friendly and helpful. Notes: Douse that fabric with the colors you want because we thought we soaked it, but all the adults still had lots of white shirt areas after we washed it. Sizes of the clothes run on the smaller side. I got an 18M onesie for my 10M son and it fit him perfectly (it was Gerber's brand). Hubs got a Large (Gildan brand) and doesn't love tight-fitting clothes, so he would've gotten an XL had he known. They don't have pastel colors. They have 3 patterns (only) of tie-dye pattern to choose from. This activity was under an hour for us (with kiddos), so it didn't "kill" a lot of time, but I imagine it might take more time if there was a group you are waiting on or taking your time tie-dying. You Can bring your own shirts/dresses/whatever, but dying it will cost $10 (more if it's a sweater or thicker fabric). You Can opt to buy a pre-tie-dyed merch, but that really takes the "fun" out of it.
