Totally bad business. I tried to talk to the For Eyes Vision Optometrist and make an appointment. Told them the condition was to rule out a potential problem. Woman called me back to cancel my appointment, yelled on my voice mail and hung up. today a woman called and asked me twice did I hear For eyes canceled my appointment and said good and slammed the phone down. If this is the Customer Service, believe me they do not care about the customer. I went to the see the store and the people--who are they? no customers in the front and none in the back so I guess they are desperate for money with same day service. Do not go here to get eye glasses here. You get what you pay for. Rudeness. read more

I have been going here for 10 years. Have not seen optometrists because I belong to Kaiser where I get free prescription every 2 years. However, For Eyes is less expensive for frames and lens. I have gotten excellent service, from "Nadiyah" the last time. Plus, I have gone in perhaps 5 times in the past 10 years to get a frame screw replaced. They did it willingly without cost. Also, readjusted the frames. It always been a pleasant experience. read more

This is the best eyeglass place I've ever been to. The owner, who was working the floor when I got there, was extremely pleasant and fixed my sunglasses for an affordable flat rate without so much as a question. The ladies down at the eyeglass store 3 stores down from For Eyes seemed completely befuddled by this simple request. He also introduced himself to me personally and I was glad to establish a lasting business relationship. I had a pair of frames Costco told me they couldn't make lenses for because they were "OTC" over the counter lenses. For eyes didn't seem to have any trouble with it. The staff were nice. read more

I saw Dr. Robert Schoen a few weeks ago and was having issues with my prescription when I realized that it was at a lower strength than what I usually wear (I didn't remember what it was when I had my appointment). I wore them around for 2 weeks (to let my eyes adjust) but it just wasn't working out. I called For Eyes and to see what I could do - I mean, I totally understand that the doctor checked my eyes and that is the prescription that I needed for 20/20- but he humored me and let me come in. The appointment was less than 5 minutes- quick and painless. He explained how prescriptions can be adjusted up and down w/o harm to your eyes and wrote me a new prescription. How great is that? Loved that they took the time to adjust my prescription- and did it w/o charge and w/o wasting my time. Thank you! read more

very very please with this office service!! i was greeted immediately as soon as walking in by a nice lady amy. dropped of my frames that morning and same day within a couple of hours my glasses were ready to be picked up. even after amy made sure my glasses fit exactly custom to me before letting me walk out !! highly recommend this place ! read more

When the earpiece of my old, but very useful and expensive glasses broke, I headed downtown to see if For Eyes could help. The frame was not fixable and they didn't carry the same one. What to do? They helped me find a frame that would work with my existing lenses, managed to pop them in, and get me out the door for under $100...and in less than 30 minutes! It's been a long time since I had an eye exam and bought new glasses. But after this experience, I'll go back sooner. The doctor was great, kind, and thorough. She took the time to understand what I need my glasses for (computer, not just reading up close), and modified the prescription accordingly. I found a wonderful frame, in my own time--no rush. Well I have to say, my experience today with For Eyes Vision Plan in Berkeley was reason enough to finally join Yelp and write a review. I had a great experience. The staff at For Eyes is super helpful and super knowledgeable. I had an appointment for a general eye exam, and needed a new prescription for both contacts and glasses. I saw Dr. Schoen, who was very personable, asked about my history and made a real effort to make sure I was happy with my new prescription. He did the most thorough prescription evaluation I've ever had. I felt very taken care of. Dr. Schoen also gave me the choice of having my eyes dilated for an addition eye health screening (no extra charge)... it was nice to be given the choice. I wasn't able to pick new frames today because of the dilation, but I plan to go back tomorrow to pick them out. Their selection of frames is pretty large and ranges from very simple and casual to hip and funky. Also their prices for lenses and frames seemed very reasonable. They were also able to order my preferred brand of contacts. Great experience. read more

A screw recently popped out of some very nice sunglasses I own. I took them in to For Eyes and they repaired them free of charge. They were super friendly and quick. I was surprised when they didn't charge anything, and I walked out of there feeling like a million bucks. read more

I love this place. They are patient, helpful and always a pleasure to deal with. Like others here, I will NEVER go to Site for Sore Eyes again, as they are unspeakably rude, no matter who you are, what you need or what time of time day it is. It's a much bigger deal for me to have to go to Berkeley, instead of Piedmont Avenue where Site for Sore Eyes is (which I can walk to), but no matter, I will gladly deal with For Eyes instead, even though less convenient. My husband and sons also go to For Eyes and are die-hard fans, too. In fact, my husband, whose eyes have changed a lot over the past few years, was the person who recommended Dr. Gao and the staff on the glasses/contacts side of the business. read more

Rude. Just rude. I went in thinking I had an appointment there, turns out I did not, I had accidentally made it at Site For Sore Eyes. I asked if they could see me that day, and they said no and that I had obviously made the appointment at the other place. Before I could say anything, the woman behind the counter started calling Site For Sore Eyes to cancel my other appointment before we had even confirmed me making an appointment with them. I told them I was quite able to do that on my own and then they informed me that had destroyed my records from my last visit. They were very rude. Thank goodness I made the mistake because I went down the street to Site For Sore Eyes and it was like night and day. They were kind and helped me find the right glasses and much better contacts than the ones I had been purchasing from For Eyes. This is a long overdue review. I love this place!! I've been a customer here while I was a student at Cal, and recently went to the Corte Madera For Eyes and had a hugely disappointing experience, which prompted me to post this review. Dr. Channon Kao was the best optometrist I've ever had. She was the person who fitted me originally with contacts that were comfortable while I was told before that I couldn't wear contacts because of my complicated prescription. She was always on time, warm, professional, beyond competent, and I feel she really cares about her patients. Whenever I would go into the store for a repair or to order contacts, and if I run into her, she always remembered my name and would ask about something I told her about ages ago. I always feel so welcomed and valued when I go there. The staff are all super nice here too. They are all older ladies and very maternal yet professional. I feel like I'm visiting my aunts when I go into the store which is awesome. Everyone seemed to have a good time there, and you can tell they all enjoy working together. All I can say is that I'm so so sorry I strayed and went elsewhere, (even though it was the same store). I'm driving back to Berkeley to see Dr. Kao next year. She and the staff are worth the drive for me!! read more

I just realized this review was not posted after I wrote it, so here it is again.....I've been getting my eye exams and glasses at For Eyes in Berkeley for the past 8 years. I have been extremely satisfied with the quality of the eye exams and the glasses. I saw Dr. Schoen at first, then Dr. Channon Kao for the past 6 years. Over the years, I've had different insurance carriers and were lucky enough to be able to use them at For Eyes. A few of my plans did not cover contact lens services, so I had to pay out of pocket for the fitting and lenses, and I had gladly done so. I am responding to a previous post by a customer who complained about having to pay out of pocket for some of the fees; well, it certainly is not the doctor's fault since all the doctors at For Eyes are employees of the company and such matters is between the insurance company and the For Eyes Vision Company. I just wanted to say, that I have had nothing but the best care, and Dr. Channon Kao is a rare gem in both her professionalism and competency as an optometrist. I would continue to be a loyal customer, and would gladly pay out of pocket even if I am unable to use my insurance benefits there. read more
