There is no Saturday dance anymore and great instructors are gone. I wonder why. A man dropped dead on the dance floor... took bad pharmaceutical products? They require to show proof of the experimental injections to participate. Which is illegal under California laws and they lie that they follow "CDC guidelines". But who cares, just get a fake card, plenty of them around and they won't check. They also collect private information for "tracing", regardless if you're a county resident or not. I emailed them asking questions about safely of their storage for medical and other private info, never got any reply! I suspect, they just get paid by the government for collecting your private details. Go elsewhere, there is no lack of studios around that aren't creepy, won't lie, won't kill you and won't spy on you. Your well-being and privacy are worth more than $10.

I've been twice; once at the old venue and once at the new. I find the intermediate lesson a bit "meh" - half is spent on a footwork routine, and half is spent on a move. Both the lead and follower get tips, but I find that learning a move doesn't feel like dancing. As a young-ish woman, I have fun during the open dance. There are more men than women, so I get asked to dance frequently. Most of the guys aren't particularly sketchy, and the average is significantly less sketchy than the club scene. The average age is a bit higher than you might expect at a club. The room isn't huge, but I didn't find it as crowded as some places I have been. I came with a Rueda group and we had people joining our Rueda circle, which was lots of fun. There wasn't much Cuban salsa music played, though there was some Bachata, Chacha, and something else I didn't recognize at all.

They showed the men how to do the step, and the women were just supposed to internalize that and do it backwards without hardly ever showing them how to do it. Then we paired up, in a long line, and would rotate partners. Of course, since I was like six rows back and couldn't even see the steps they taught, let alone flip them around in my head to do it backward, I started messing up. If you mess up when everyone is dancing in a line, you mess everyone up. My partner (a stranger)started yelling at me. It was awful. I decided to drop the class. Too many people, not enough instruction. The club told me classes booked online have no refunds. Now they tell me! So if anyone wants my $50 credit...

But that is exactly how it was with Bruce. His equipment is top-notch -- Sound, lighting, etc. His attitude is warm and friendly and his song list is AMAZING. He showed up when he said he would (2 hours prior to go time for set-up). He takes care of everything. He brings pens, song slips, multiple song books by artist and song title... and he works a great rotation. He seems to really enjoy what he does.
