First time coming here & we had a blast. Good prices per hr, many smooth table to play on, small bev/food bar, a music box & some Tvs to watch sports on. The vibe was good & time flew by fast when having fun. Luckily they close pretty late so late night folks can go out & play. Excellent place to play pool, exactly what a billiards hall should be. Not overly noisy/party spot, TouchTunes jukebox, beautifully clean and maintained tables. Went on a weekend evening and there were only a few other groups there, plenty of room. Small beer selection and lots of non-alcoholic drinks, but, this is good because I imagine it keeps the riff-raff out. This seems to be a spot for serious pool players, very family friendly also (although, no one under 16 allowed, whew! No whining kids.) CJ is a really nice, friendly guy. The good: Tables are in good shape. Have well organized 9 and 8 ball tournaments on friday nights. The bad: Prices are a bit high and have a one hour minimum. My husband and I have been regulars at Lucky Shot for quite a long time - they always keep the place very clean and they recently just changed out all the felt on their tables so it's even "newer" than we first started playing here! I love the vibe of this place. It's not easy to find since it's underground but you can access from Main Street or from the rear. It's not a huge place like Cuetopia (only about 10-12 tables). About the last great place to play some pool in South Bay. Down stairs in basement, you get about 20 tables, cold beers, and a jukebox. This spot is best during weekdays. Since, it's quieter and less busy. Find yourself late night on weekend and place is packed, and you'll be waiting a bit for a table. It gets a bit hot down there so don't dress too warm. But, cold beer or drinks makes up for it. The jukebox is the gem in this place if you ask me. It really gets its use and helps everyone loosen up. The pricing seemed relatively low and 6 of us were allowed to come in giving only a short notice. Mainly: - I'm no pool professional, but I played at a few pool halls/billiard locations and they have the best tables/equipment I've used in the area. - Space is okay, you occasionally need to get outta peoples ways but not too much. - Price is okay, kind of nice they change rate per person playing and sometimes the table. I went in a group of 4 and played for 1.5 hours until they closed on a weekday and it was $9 per person? - The entrance is a stairway leading down to the place! It's a little low key and cool! - They have $5 beers but not a huge selection but good enough! - 4-stars because staff is okay-- not bad! Super fun place to get with friends and play some pool! There's seating in the side which is nice for those who are playing with a big group. They serve beer but make sure to keep bottles off and away from the pool table as they are strict with enforcing that rule. Did not know there was a place like this in downtown Sunnyvale! Of course, considering the location parking is a pain, especially at night. We parked in the Macy's lot and walked over. When we arrived, there were actually no open table. After some awkward scouting of the area, one party moved off the table in the back. Be warned though, that table is a bit smaller even if there's lots of space and seating there. However, it also has a darts board next to it so that definitely kept my group of friends amused as we rotated in for pool. They do serve alcohol but the cost definitely add up fast. Otherwise if you just wanted to play pool it's better to bring more people...not bad when half the group is playing darts while the other half plays pool. Last thing: they're open decently late so if you're looking for a place to go at night this is a good option :) read more

Was planning on meeting a few people here for some games and a couple drinks but was aggressively stopped when trying to use a restroom and told I couldn't use it unless I was planning on staying for a while, which was what I was planning on... My Associates Bryon and Ank run a Meet up Group at Lucky Shot Billiards on Saturday nights at 7 PM. Bryon had ask me to come Support the group and shoot some Pool. Lately Ive been getting the Pool bug so I agreed to go on a Saturday. Saturday came around so I rolled my Whip Black Beauty out to Sunnyvale and Murphy Street. I parked at the foot of Murphy street and Street Hiked to Lucky Shot Billiards. I like how Lucky Shot is located in a Subterranean location . It a very Low Key Pool Hall. They have LCD TVs with Local Sports programming. Nice Full size Tables and a Bumping Juke Box. They serve a lot of different Beers and Sodas . They also have a Small Snack Bar serving Hot Wings and Other Assorted Snack Foods. The Saturday Meet Up Group has a lot of Single and Nice looking Females and their very friendly. The Saturday I went I was at a Table with 3 lovely women Shooting Pool from 7- 10 . I had a ball. Also Murphy Street is packed full of great Restaurants. They just got their tables re-felted and they are beautiful! Pretty good basic variety of drinks. Only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is because the ceiling is low and sometimes the airflow isn't ideal. T and Tan are the owners and have always been pretty cool with me. Along with hosting APA pool nights they also have a couple of their own weekly tournaments. Stop in here if you're looking for a good game. Lucky shots is our go to pool hall, mainly because of its location. It's probably the nicest pool hall in Sunnyvale and is located on Murphy street, convenient for grabbing some food and drinks before heading down to play. There are a couple of parking lots by Murphy St, but it definitely gets busy during the evening and on the weekend so you may have to circle around for a while and get lucky... The tables are good, but they don't have diamond tables. It can get quite cramped when the place is busy and it definitely doesn't have a spacious feel. Service is generally pleasant, although we have noticed that the owners can be quite strict and stingy after a night of APA league. The bathrooms and seating areas are acceptably clean and they take good care to clean and cover up their table every night. read more

Tan and Thy run a solid bar, keep their tables well cared for with quality house cues, racks are well polished and cared for, plus a one-stop-shop offering cue service (tips/weighting), sales, and tutoring. They really are no nonsense players themselves, and their hall is a reflection of their passion for the game. While I respect the other halls in the area and like them plenty, Lucky Shot will always be considered 'home'. read more

Really enjoyed my first time billiards in my life. I didn't know that there is a billiards place in the basement in Sunnyvale downtown. I have been to Sunnyvale downtown many times and never noticed. Somehow, I've ended up down the stairs at Lucky Shot Billiards a few times in the last few months. It's beneath Scruffy Murphy's, small, I bang my pool stick on the low ceilings, and there's no actual bar but, I still like it. It's probably the location that makes it ideal. We can have dinner at tasty joints like Dish Dash or Turmeric and then play some pool while we let our tummies settle (before a night out drinking). Good deal! I always take control of the juke box when I go down to play, they offer a good selection to play horrible pool to. Last trip, I realized that they have my favorite pear cider. They offer free Wi-Fi, and they keep their tables maintained for the most part. There was some fuzz on a few tables. There often have music going without anyone putting money in the jukebox and have a movie going near the desk. The have stairs right off Washington Street, as well from the parking lot directly behind it. The spacing between the tables, as someone else said, is kind of tight. But they have 13 tables. They have beer and other drinks and snacks. Their kitchen is very clean as well. They can get pretty busy but their turnover time for a table isn't that bad. They're downstairs, so you'll hear the establishment above (or the office?) often. And it's pretty loud sometimes. A good option to go to while Santa Clara Billiards is being rebuilt. The only problem I foresee in the future is parking since it's right downtown. They take credit cards and tips are optional. read more

Billiards place in downtown Sunnyvale. The nice thing about being in DT Sunnyvale is that it's close to a bunch of places for food. This place has a decent amount of pool tables, but it can get quite cramped as there isn't a ton of space in between the tables. It is located in a basement so it has pretty low ceilings and can get chilly inside. I come here for APA league and have never had an issue with the place. Management seems nice and friendly. There is a jukebox that you can pay to play music, otherwise, the place is pretty silent. There is also a private room in the back if you don't want to be as disturbed by people. The parking situation is okay, but it is downtown Sunnyvale so street parking is a no-no. The pool tables are generally maintained pretty well. They use light brown chalk instead of the standard blue. Overall, this is a pretty nice place to shoot pool at. Sad that all the other local pool halls have closed down. I never even knew about Lucky Shot, but my boyfriend being the pool shark said usually the best players were here practicing. The front door is totally inconspicuous, but then you see how big this place is once you walk down a flight of stairs. The place is clean, no frills, but they have a range of bottled drinks (beers and soda), and the crowd and staff is really friendly. They play a good variety of music (mostly classic rock and some 90's), but I like that it's not too loud and you can hear yourself talking. I think by default, they have to be 4 stars now, since they're the only pool hall around! read more

When planning dinner and drinks for my birthday Susan D. correctly pointed out that we wouldn't be able to drink as much if we went out drinking immediately after dinner, we'd be too stuffed. So, we discussed miniature golf or some other activity, but I didn't think we'd need that more than an hour or so for our food to settle, so since I picked DishDash in Sunnyvale for dinner I suggest Lucky Shot for an hour of play before heading on to VIP. We got a couple of tables and sent Susan D. off to the jukebox, then set about playing. Okay, I only made a couple shots, I seriously suck at pool and if I do happen to sink a ball, odds are it's the other team's. So, I wandered around, talked to friends, chilled and enjoyed watching people either playing in triumph or swearing they're better with more beers when defeated. Then, right before we left the bar Lu W. waves me over, apparently the bartender was buying me a drink for my birthday! So, everyone had to wait to finish their drink on at VIP a little longer, while I finished my favorite pear cider. All in all, part of good night! read more

Two random thoughts came to mind when I first entered this place... WOW...this would be such an awesome place to hang out and feign an excuse after a horrible dinner date! I mean it would be quite rude to just call it a night after the poor guy just paid for my dinner right?... so what shall a girl do then?? I know....Lucky's!! A girl has to have a Plan B at all times. I can just hide down here from the rest of the world for a bit and hopefully not bump into anyone I know. Like any of my friends would really come to party hard in Sunnyvale... On the other hand, this place may truly be a blessing during an awesome date. I could use it to my advantage to know my date a little better before our next stop at the other drinking establishments on the strip.....Hmmm......interesting.... Overall, not bad for downtown Sunnyvale. Next to Lily Mac's bar. A pretty clean and well maintained underground pool hall with friendly staff and clienteles. Plenty of tables and stools and music. There's even a foosball table in one hidden corner. The only thing is the ceilings are just slightly low and they serve only beers and cider. No full bars here. Boo..... However, the owners are excellent about keeping the tables and cues maintained. And it's nice to be within walking distance of some good dining options, especially Dish Dash or Taverna Bistro. This place is sooooo small, then to top it off it is in a basement location with low ceilings. It feels like a dive, however its NOT. Its clean and the people there are nice.
