I purchased a pair of Hoka's Gaviota3 shoes. The two female staff were very friendly and helpful. Sadly the pieces of the soles started to crack apart and fall off in just over a week on a flat surfaced floor. I took the shoes in hoping to exchange them but was told only the manager could do that and they didn't see a reason why she wouldn't. I bought a second pair and the same thing happened in 3-4 days. I took both pairs to the store when the manager was in and she almost immediately told me I was doing something to cause this like hooking my feet on something? I felt she was a little aggressive. She refused an exchange/refund and suggested I contact Hoka directly. I did and received a full refund. As it turns out, that is a known issue and something they addressed when designing the Gaviota 4. I thought the employees at this store were very knowledgeable and helpful. The manager's attitude will be what keeps me from shopping there. read more

I was frantically trying to find a pair of sandals for my trip to Italy with only 2 weeks to spare. I went into this shop and picked out 3 pairs to try. I told the associate what I was needing and she brought out a pair of Ecco sandals and encouraged me to try them. I turned up my nose because they were NOT the style I was looking for, but I tried them on to humor her. Holy smokes they were my saving grace! I wore them every day of my trip with little to no foot pain. That is something for someone with falling arches, internal pronation, and plantar fasciitis. I appreciated the knowledge and gentle encouragement to try something I didn't think I wanted, but definitely needed! I will be back! read more

The staff and shoe selection at this location are incredible! My Wife and I have had great difficulty in the Albany area locating higher quality footwear and this store has it all. Do not even walk in the store if you are a bargain basement shopper. This is a far better than average product line. I went in here looking for shoes and found this store to be big on high pressure sales (I hate places like that). I try to avoid places like this as it makes for a very unpleasant experience and I don't like to reward bad behavior, but I needed shoes and went against my better judgement by going here. I was unsure about the shoes I tried on and the woman working there told me to buy the shoes, take them home, try them out, see how they feel, and if I don't like them bring them back with the receipt within 30 days. That seemed pretty chill so I gave it a go. I took the shoes home, tried them out, and the shoes gave me charlie horses all the way up my legs. I could barely walk in them. It was really hard to get a feel for the shoes in the store as the woman wouldn't leave me alone or stop talking for even one second. Lady, Sometimes silence is golden! The shoes were a bust and I brought them back. Mrs. Friendly Talkity-Talk was in, but now it's like she's been on an episode of Gilgans island. It was as though her head had been hit by a coconut and oops amnesia! I mean what other reason would there be that she had no recollection of what she said before and was refusing to honor her own word claiming that the store has no policy like that. Sure. Totally. Right. Very convenient. I'd like it noted that when I bought those shoes I had someone there with me who heard every word that came out of that women's mouth. In the future, I'd suggest this location works on their customer service. I'd also suggest they hire honest people who have some sort of moral values, but then again maybe this is just a reflection on the owner of this store? The people you hire are a reflection on you. I most certainly hope this location does not train their employees to lie to make sales like this woman did. I spent $146 dollars on those shoes as they were a needed necessity and I was out that money with no shoes to show for it. I ended up donating those brand new shoes to goodwill. I hope you enjoyed the $146 dollars as you will not be seeing my money again and that's too bad for you because if I would have had a good experience I would've come back and bought more shoes (and that's without high pressure sales). Appreciated how helpful they were without being overwhelming. Saw some other reviews saying they're just trying to get you to buy things because they're commissioned based. I didn't feel like they were being pushy at all. We called ahead to see if they were open during the pandemic. They were kind to us and didn't rush us to make a decision. Footwear Express is a locally owned shoe store that stocks a wide selection of high quality (read expensive) casual shoes and sandals. Yes, they are commission based and yes, it appears that they would like you to buy a pair of shoes to keep the lights on. I can definitely understand the frustration at their return policy... but I also see their position. Raced in this evening, to buy a pair of shoes. I arrived 25 minutes before closing. A young woman and young man greeted me when I entered, and then the young man proceeded to complain to his co-worker, loudly, while I browsed. I understand that you might hate your job, dude, but complaining about work in front of customers is unprofessional and off-putting. At 20 minutes to closing, I approached the counter to let the young man know that I would like to try on some shoes. I pointed out the first pair, and he said 'not to rush you, or anything, but we close in twenty minutes'. I replied, 'I know - that's why I'm pointing them all out to you at once.' While he was in back, searching for the shoes - I heard him tell the young woman that he wasn't going to give me up as his customer, because the last tim he did that, the lady bought three pair of shoes. Again, unprofessional. I bought the shoes, and was out the door at 15 minutes to closing. Horrible customer service. Good shoe selection for folks wanting higher quality, comfortable shoes. They have a great selection of Dansko, Birkenstock, Teva, and other brands. That's why they get two stars. But, from the moment I walked through the door, I wanted to rush out of there. My husband got me a $200 pair of UGG boots for Christmas. I've been wanting these boots for a very long time and I was extremely excited. After wearing them twice I noticed there was a snag on the top of the boot. I took them in the store to see if they would exchange them or return them. They said because it was not a manufacturer problem they would not. Tell me how a $200 pair of boots gets a snag after wearing them twice and it's not a manufacturer problem? I went from being so extremely excited for having something I've always wanted but couldnt afford, to now just feeling sad and disappointed and I feel like it should be made right. Why bother purchasing something expensive when I could've got them at Walmart and they would have returned them in a heartbeat. My experience reflects many of the other reviewers. Wish I had checked before purchase. I bought my first pair of Birkenstock and was very unsure of sizing and spent a lot time in store. I asked salesperson for help and got very little help in checking my choice of size . The salesperson told me to wear them in house and try them out and if they did not work to bring them back. She did say not to wear them outside and I did not. I wore them couple times in house and realized they were too big. When I bought them back they refused to exchange them for proper size as they had been worn ! I explained what prior sales person said and this one just said sorry! I really like to support small shops but they are convincing me why small local shops are going away. I would certainly not recommend this store. read more

I went in this past weekend to find some good quality shoes that would give me the support I needed and what the podiatrist recommended for me. I know I spent a good amount of time in there putting the poor young lady through her paces as I tried on numerous brands, styles and types. She was an absolute joy to work with, and helped me find two pairs that I could wear and walk comfortably with. I wished I remembered her name. Though she is as I said, a joy to work with, amazing customer service, listened to me and made sound recommendations with knowledgeable reasons for those recommendations. Thank you! read more

Customer service here is horrible. When you have a problem with your shoes, they pretty much say "too bad". They aren't willing to call the shoe manufacturers to try and help you get a refund or anything. Spend your money somewhere else. I won't be back. read more
