We did 2 discovery flights in a Remo sport light aircraft at this place. Beyond the quality of the…read moreGerman aircraft the pilot was friendly, professional, and comforting. My fiancé is an aviation enthusiast and we have quickly discovered as with most institutions, hobbies, or activities, aviation is a sexist boys club. We have been trying to call and visit flight schools so she could get her license, and on the rare occasion that the person actually acknowledges her presence, she is usually met with condensation, sarcasm, and grief. NOT HERE. The pilot was encouraging, considerate, and respectful to us BOTH. While waiting for my flight one of the owners came in with his family, they were very nice and his wife even gave me some of her candy :) 75$ is a good price to fly in a 120,000$ craft for an hour, and even take control of the stick and navigate over folsom lake. Beyond that they went above and beyond to help us feel welcome into the world of flying. They do flight instruction as well so if you want to persue it, they can teach you all you need to know. They even sell the planes they fly you in, so if you fall in love, you can buy one! This is definitely the best place to have a "discovery" flight to see if in the air is where you want to be!

We had a very frustrating experience with Folsom Sea Otters, primarily due to how their schedule…read moreand refund policy are handled. We enrolled our 5- and 7-year-olds, but the team did not release practice times until after the deadline for a full refund had already passed. When the schedule was finally shared, practices were quite late on school nights--later than other teams in the league--and simply not reasonable for young kids. Because of this, we had to withdraw before the season even started. While the team did follow their written policy and issued a 50% refund, we still lost $390 despite never using the program. What feels unacceptable is that families are required to commit financially before being given critical information like practice times. There was also no flexibility offered, even though we withdrew well in advance and there was a waitlist for our age group. I strongly recommend waiting until practice schedules are released before registering, as you may not be able to get your money back if the schedule doesn't work for your family.

My early instructor was careless and lacked compassion and empathy for those who were afraid of the water. I nearly drown in his class and that solidified my fear. Many years later I have had the good fortune to find Joe. He is exactly the opposite of that early instructor and is the sort of teacher and person I need to help me to become the skillful swimmer I hope to be. Just one class in and I was loving being in the pool and experienced a sense of increased confidence. With Joe's guidance I became comfortable and confident in keeping my head nicely submerged while kicking half way down the length of the pool. This was extraordinary for someone with intense fear of the water. I am very eager for more classes because I know that I am so much closer to achieving my swimming goals. On top of that, the classes are just great fun!
