When asked if his school was able to provide an Accelerated Multiengine Commercial Add-On in one week he said, "yes, we can get that done." Excitedly I purchased the training materials from his school, booked a hotel, and studied feverishly as I awaited the big day. First day of training. I wake up early, hop in the car, and drive 3.5 hours to the school. I show up and he is missing several documents I provided on my initial visit. Not overly professional, but I choose not to let it wreck the day--I let it slide. Next he tells me the airplane has a leaky sump and will be fixed momentarily. It's aviation and maintenance issues happen--I won't make a fuss over it. We make small talk and discuss aircraft systems for a while. 2 hours pass and we are losing daylight. I inquire whether or not we will fly that day, and whether we will accomplish the training in the promised timeframe. His answer disappointed me: Only after showing up for my first lesson did he tell me we'd be unable to schedule a checkride with for 4+ months due to DPE availability. I felt misled because 4+ months did not meet the "accelerated" timeframe that was promised over several phone calls and an in-person meeting. I expressed my displeasure and told him we had talked about this being a one-week program. He said he would call around to try to secure a sooner date, and would contact me the next day with an answer. I cancel the hotel, drive another 3.5 hours back home, and wait to hear from him. It's been several days and that call never came. I feel disappointed in the service I received. Had Carter communicated the proper expectations on the front end, and followed through with contacting me as he said he would, there would be no hard feelings. Instead I am left feeling as though I had been bamboozled. The only saving grace is I discovered this prior to dropping several thousand dollars on training expense. If you are looking for a flight school, I hope my experience can serve as a cautionary tale. From what little time I spent there, it appeared they are equipped to adequately provide training to introductory students, but if you are seeking advanced ratings in a specific timeframe I would recommend looking elsewhere.

It's taken me an insanely long time to write this because I don't want to believe that it's over…read more I spent last weekend living on a dive boat with Dolphin and it was genuinely one of the top experiences of my life. As a greener diver, I went into this trip thinking I'd just take my time, see what it was like, and figure out what I could handle. Instead, it changed my perspective on diving and, to a much larger degree, the way I see myself. Steve Ramirez and Rich DeWitt made me feel so comfortable. They gave great tips and instruction without ever making me feel like I didn't belong there. I credit both of them for being able to do the dives and be fully present for them, knowing that they were nearby if needed with answers. Tell me why I live in Los Angeles and I'm considering driving up to Sacramento to further my dive education these two guys are the reason. The boat's crew was kind, helpful and incredibly aware. They anchored at beautiful dive sites, making it extremely easy to explore and look for whatever interested you on each dive. Their briefings were informative and helpful, there was always something available to refuel or hydrate, and they answered every question I had. They provided a type of hospitality I didn't even know existed. One of the crew caught a halibut while spearfishing and they cooked it right on the boat for us to try. I'll admit, I was scared to sleep in a bunk room with 21 strangers, with basically no privacy, on a little boat rocking to whatever degree the ocean decided was appropriate that day. But waking up first thing in the morning and getting into the water helped me achieve something I hadn't even realized I'd been looking for, to quiet the noise. I've always liked diving since I got certified. Now I love diving. I love the ocean. I love myself. There are places out there on this great planet where beauty and joy outweigh personality, follower count and financial class. Moments where you feel like you're on the moon. Underwater shapes of rock and rubble where you can almost see exactly where the earth crumbled, and just how resilient the creatures living there have become, willing to adjust to something new. There are little animals. Big animals. Kelp growing from rock. Silence. Awe. Moments laughing at dinner, wondering what the people on the other boats are doing, with people who were strangers a day ago and somehow already feel like friends. There's kindness. True hospitality. And this general sense of togetherness because everybody on board has the same goal: have a safe dive. Be able to go on the next one. Witness. Observe. Engage to whatever degree we're allowed, and leave the ocean as we found it. I thought what I was looking for out there would be something else. A shark. A ray. A seal. A dolphin. Turns out, it was me. I can't wait to go on the next one. Thank you, Dolphin, for giving me an experience I'll carry with me for the rest of my life.

I had the pleasure of attending a liveaboard trip in the Channel Islands this past weekend that was…read moreorganized by Dolphin Scuba Center. My wife and I are relatively new to diving so three days of nonstop scuba was both something we were excited for but also a little scared to do. Dolphin Scuba instructors Rich D. and Steve Ramirez were such an incredible pair that both taught us so much about scuba diving and allowed us to tag along with them on all of our dives. They made us feel very at ease in the water, gave us tips to improve our form and they both had endless stories to tell about diving while we hung out in the galley at night. This was our favorite scuba experience we have had thus far and I would 100% recommend joining them on one of the many trips they organize throughout the year. We can't wait to attend another trip with them in the future! Thanks again!

Our daughter has been in the preschool program here for nearly three months. She really enjoys it…read more Parking is easy to find as they have their own small lot adjacent to the school. Just be cautious as the staff asks that you park in a spot, not next to the gate; however some still do so. Our daughter's in the afternoon program from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday. The staff does a wonderful job disinfecting the classroom, monitoring temperatures, wearing masks as well as ensuring the little ones are. Our daughter has quickly made new friends and enjoys learning, playing, and snacking every day. The staff is very friendly and has done an outstanding job navigating things during this unfortunate and crazy pandemic. We're so happy our friend recommended the program to us and we look forward to our daughter's continued growth and development in the program.

This is LONG Overdue review of Coach Bella!…read more Coach Bella taught our oldest to swim (from 2.5-5!) ... once you have Coach Bella, there is no going back. She make swim fun and challenging all at the same time. Her patience is second to none! We followed her around as our oldest leveled up. Now - we have a 3yo who is terrified of the water. She finally became unafraid and stated swimming on her own with Coach Allison's help! Coach Allison gave her some incredible ques to learn how to look down while swimming and how to "dive" in properly. Shout out to Coach Allison! When our 3yo transferred to her level 2 class.... She regressed.... Then Coach Bella came to the rescue! The way our girl swam in her first class with Bella, you would have never known that She was hysterical in the parking lot and refused to go in. No tears were shed and she had fun! Bella and Allison are incredible coaches!

I am writing this to warn other parents about the lack of basic safety supervision at this facility…read moreand their inability to take accountability. My 4-year-old daughter is a capable swimmer who just transitioned from private lessons to a group class here. On her very first turn, the instructor directed her to swim to the steps and then completely turned her back to focus on another child before my daughter reached safety. She did not yet have a grasp on my child's level of ability, or her confidence in this new environment. My 4yo went underwater, panicked, and was left unassisted sinking in the water. Completely losing visual contact with a swimming 4 year old is a massive safety failure. She spent the rest of the lesson sobbing and frightened after that event, and now does not want to return to swim after months of joy and success doing it. When I brought this to management via email and phone call, they refused a refund of the annual registration fee and of the remainder of our lessons since the last lesson was less than 7 days away. Instead, they would only offer a class transfer, and even shockingly suggested we put her back with the exact same instructor to "push through" the fear- totaling $160 for our scary experience. I understand their policy dictates no refunds, but policy should not override accountability when a child's safety is compromised. We will not be returning. I strongly urge other parents to look elsewhere if you want a program that guarantees eyes on your young child while they are in the water.

Adj: amazing community creativity center!…read more After the amazing Yelp Elite event here last year, I haven't had time to return. However, recently I had a project that I needed help with and are wrecking my brains, I realized that Community Shop Class (CSC for short bc I'm all about acronyms) could probably help me out. Thankfully this was just the weekend when CSC hosts it's once monthly Oak Park fix it Cafe. So with hopeful thoughts in my heart, I brought my project and my family here to check it out and get some practical help. My daughter remembers CSC from the Yelp event (where we were allowed to bring a plus+1) and she was very happy to get to check it out again and it would be a first for my hubby and son. We were welcomed upon arrival by a volunteer who gave me an intake form so the fix it volunteers can diagnose my project with a problem and set me up with the right fix it person. Not long after I was directed towards the sewing room, and then Chad the founder and owner came by and introduced himself and when I mentioned the Yelp event, his eyes lit up and he said that was one of the best events he's ever hosted bc of everyone's enthusiasm and the community brought together. I totally agree!! Turns out Chad was the one who was about to fix my project and he taught me how to use certain equipment and then I was set free to work on my project. He also told me about new classes for older kids that are almost ready to be launched so I'll definitely be back with my kids for them to take classes here. Chad is truly a caring and big hearted person who's given so much to this community in the Oak Park neighborhood as well as in the greater South Sac area. Afterwards, we walked around and chatted with some of the fix it volunteers and also checked out the new changes and innovative new spaces and offerings. They have great outdoors space here too with nice pergola covered seating out front and some veggie planters. In addition, You can take all kind of classes here and their membership is very affordable with long hours starting with 7-10a coffee time together and then it's open most days till 6 or 7p except it's closed Sunday and Monday. In short, I highly recommend checking out Shop Class for all your maker space needs and as an excellent place for all your creative outlets!!

There are always people with repair skills in here that can work their magic and pull repairs out of the air on common household items, electronics, clothing, and pretty much anything and everything you can think of as long as it's not a huge item. In addition, this is also a community creative maker space for those who want to make stuff. You can print 3D items whether practical or for play, record your own podcast or song in their studio, and even make or fix a bike. All for a low monthly membership price, and there are also classes to take for 3D printing and more. There are also special classes especially for older kids to hone their life skills and to enhance their art and crafts and creative repertoire. All in all, an truly inspiring story of how Chad the founder and owner of Shop Class started this amazing community workshop, and how he and an army of community volunteers continue to pour into the immediate surrounding neighborhood as well as the greater Sac community with their monthly Fix-it Cafe, daily coffee time from 7-10 and then the rest of their day is open for creative and meaningful business.
