One roofer came out and said we needed a new roof. Two other roofers came out and said they could replace the tiles, and fortunately the previous owners left us a stockpile of tiles so they wouldn't need to order many -- or any -- tiles. Mind you, according to all of these roofers, the tiles we have are top-of-the-line, expensive freaking tiles! When Jim came out, we could tell he was the man for the job. He walked on our roof, but he knew exactly how to step on the roof to not break any of the tiles. He counted all of the broken tiles, assessed the damage, and pointed out other areas that needed some work. He was by far the most detailed roofer to inspect our roof. His solution was to repair the cracked tiles that could be repaired (approx. 25 of them had hairline fractures), and replace the other 25 tiles. We really liked the fact that he could save some of the tiles and could repair them -- so we'd still be left with extras. We decided to go with Jim because we liked his approach and felt his solution was the most beneficial. Thanks again, Jim & Everlast Roofing!

What really stood out as part of the decision was his knowledge, attention to detail, and prior experience working on the same type of roof as mine. In addition to standard shingles, my home includes a permitted sunroom with an aluminum panel roof that had been leaking. Bottom Dollar Roofing was the only company willing to address this as part of the project. Keith's team cleaned and sealed the aluminum roof, and it has held up with no leaks, even through the most recent heavy rainstorm. The process was smooth from the start. Only a small deposit was required to get on the schedule, and Jill in the office kept me informed throughout, especially regarding weather-related scheduling updates. She also provided helpful guidance during the color selection process, including a list of nearby completed homes with color choices I was considering, so I could drive by to see them in person. That made a big difference in choosing with confidence. Keith's crew was professional and detail-oriented. They kept the job site clean each day, removing debris and nails from the surrounding area. The work was completed on schedule, and the quality was excellent. They also repaired weather-damaged plywood and ensured the existing structure was brought up to code. Any potential additional repair costs were clearly outlined in the initial quote, so there were no surprises (though, as expected, some issues only became visible once the old roofing materials were removed). I called Musulman to replace the metal drip edge, and Fred showed up the next day, Wednesday, to have a look. He returned Thursday morning, made the repair, then texted me that the new drip edge is installed and no charge. Who does that these days? I received quotes from 6 different businesses, but Competition Roofing stood out as the best. From the initial quote, Kyle, the owner, walked me through their whole process. I had a few flashing issues that was making a badly installed window leak and he made certain that they would be addressed during the re-roof. Their pricing came out second lowest of the 6 companies I received quotes from. However, Kyle's communication and praise from other reputable contractors convinced me to roll with them. I wanted the roof done correctly, not necessarily for the lowest dollar amount. Once I signed on, Kyle was there throughout the entire process. He took care of permitting, informed me of when inspectors would show up, and even called to ask if I would like to be moved up on the schedule. I was impressed--I rarely come across contractors that are great communicators. Our new roof took 4 days. Kyle laid out exactly what would happen during each day. He was onsite during the tearoff and walked me through any small issues he saw, such as a few pieces of rotted plywood. The crew Kyle worked with was excellent. Each day, they cleaned up thoroughly and even took in my trash cans on garbage day! What kind of contractors go above and beyond like that? On their final day, one of the workers proudly showed me a video of the roof. I love it when people take such pride in their jobs. After installation, Kyle returned to do a full walk around with me to make sure all of the issues we had previously discussed in the quote were addressed (they were!). Overall, I cannot recommend Competition Roofing highly enough. They are true professionals in their communication, execution, and operations (yes, they are licensed and insured!). There were no pressure tactics, no mysterious charges, and no issues throughout the whole process. I bought my house in Sherman Oaks in 1997 and while I was out of town on work for a couple months…read moreshortly after moving in, El Nino hit. Fortunately, my garage (which was storing much of what I had that wasn't in the house) was the only thing that suffered damage, Unfortunately, most of my mementos were destroyed. I reroofed, and now almost 30 years later, with rumors are that El Nino is making a return visit, I thought (since we had suffered minor leaks during some of the recent rains) it was time to reroof, so I put Yelp to work to find me some people to interview. I picked five for the information I could glean, asking few questions, since I knew opening my mouth connected to a brain that knows little about roofing, would be a bad idea and also seeing if people were helpful with their explanations. Everyone (maybe except one) was personable enough for me to think I could work with them, but much of the information was kinda the same thing (although I noted some improvements in roofing since 97 that were useful to ask each about). The prices were more or less the same, and close enough that I knew I could find a point that would be roughly around the general price for them all, so it wasn't money. It was rapport and ultimately who gave me the greatest sense of trust. And. I learned, information that no one else told me. Roy, with Top Roofing was the ONLY one of the five that I saw who discussed the solar pool heating on my roof with me; each of the people I met with went on the roof. Not one other person mentioned it, and if you have solar panels on the roof - it's a consideration in doing the job. When I called the others who'd come to the house to say I'd made my choice and asked why I picked someone else I told them this - it was determinative that one person told me this was a job that needed to be done in addition to the roofing. He hooked me up with a solar heating company, he'd worked with before and I got on the phone with them and felt reasonably satisfied that between them and Roy it would get done on time, on budget. (It's not a small add-on to have them remove and reinstall the works, so if this affects you, be warned). Roy stayed in touch with me throughout - He came by and we spoke on phone daily. We had agreed that in the cost we he would completely replace and repaint a tongue-and-groove porch which was pretty rotted out) and aside from some permit forms I had to fill out, gave me a date of less than a week every date was kept. His crew was punctual, and so neat - the pool was covered, they cleaned up each of the five days they worked. Roy walked the yard with me before they started so I could make sure my gardener trimmed where he needed to, then walked it again, to tell me where we might need to keep trimming. He touched base with me every day, and when it was over gave me a video of the roof (both the main house and the garage were reroofed), and the porch which looked haggard now looks beautiful. I can't say enough about what a positive experience this was. And it looks really good. And since the last time I put on a roof, the tile now cools down the exterior which is good to have in an LA summer. The roof is up, the solar heating is back in operation. Let's go. A roof is an expensive proposition, and I think it's ok to know little if you hire someone you believe in (and, I'll admit, test out a little bit at the onset), who speaks to you in a way that is helpful and doesn't overwhelm you, but I think this was an incredibly positive experience in terms of labor, cleanliness, schedule and most importantly communication. We had a difficult and complicated bathroom renovation under way and hired Peyton of Foothill Renovators to take over from me for the stuff I didn't want to do myself. His crew arrived promptly, worked quickly, and Rob, his tile guy did a superb job meticulously retiling around the shower/bathtub and tiling the floor. His glass guy installed a frameless shower enclosure that looks fantastic. Peyton was always cordially responsive and dependable. He showed a healthy interest in the job and his guys always cleaned up afterwards. We are very happy with our 'new' bathroom. This is the second time I have used Foothill Renovators; the first being for a major two-story room addition (which led to the bathroom remodel). First time working with Peyton and his crew they were very good. I had them remodel two bathrooms and one was to remove the bathtub and put in a standing shower with glass tile and tile flooring they did a fabulous job. The other bathroom was remove and replace a prefab shower and replace it with a tile shower-- they were very thorough and they came back and finished everything to my specifications. Everyone that came into my home could be trusted and Peyton was always available via text or phone. Nothing was ever a problem, everything looks great. I've hired VA construction to build my new ADU from the ground up, in order to have my mom move in with us. They handled all of the architectural and structural blueprints in a very professional way, keeping us involved and always made sure I understood all of the details and options! Robert and his team did a bathroom remodel job for me from mid-February to mid-March in 2022. It…read moreincluded demo and tearing everything out and installing everything new in one bathroom and new flooring, vanity, and toilet in another. I know this review is basically 1.5 years later but I wanted to use the bathrooms and see how it held up before writing this review and it just became overdue. Anyways, I would not recommend Robert and his team for any similar jobs. I'm honestly shocked by the positive reviews and felt I needed to post mine because I found Robert through yelp and feel mislead. There are a lot of things that have issues now. The grout lines in the shower are flaking off in layers because it was not done properly the first time. The niche that was built has a lip that holds water and won't drain. The vanity is leveled but the gap between the wooden cabinet and the slab counter top is not. One of the doors of the vanity was installed poorly and is now loose. The laminate flooring tiles are separated in one of the bathrooms. There is so much flex when you walk on it even since the day it was installed. I regret not insisting on leveling the floor before install but Robert told us his expert opinion was that it wasn't necessary. We asked Robert to do measurements on the day we signed the contract so we can order enough materials including extra for the floor and shower. We ordered exactly as he told us but when install came, we needed to go out and buy more bc of mistakes or miscalculation. This lead to needing to buy completely different flooring for the other bathroom bc the store didn't have enough of the original one we picked out. The shower had rust coming out and his plumber was sent out to fix it (the plumber wasn't present during the initial install, FYI). There was so much extra material with the exhaust fan duct he installed and there was papers left inside that blocked the vent opening. The towel rod is not leveled. We had to reinstall one of the toilets ourselves within a year bc of a leak cause by the rubber ring. Everyone on the team was very nice and polite, however, with the exception of the plumber, I would not consider their craftsmanship and skill level to be the level of someone who works in construction as their main profession. There is a lot more I could say but I'll end it here. If all my issues were cosmetic, I'd give them 3 stars. But considering the fact that a lot of these issues had to be fixed by us or can't be fixed now but only the next time we do another renovation (flooring, shower tiles and niche, uneven patching and texture on walls/ceiling), 2 stars seems fair. I would not recommend King Legacy Construction to anyone looking for a renovation/remodel.

My wife and I were really impressed with JJ Construction's breadth of capabilities, attention to…read moredetail, and ability to identify potential issues before they happened, and even provide interior design guidance. JJ Construction replaced ~20 windows in our house, removed old flooring in our entire downstairs (living room, dining room, family room, kitchen, guest bath) and replaced it with quality wood laminate, plus the second floor stairway and upstairs hallway. The intricate work on the steps is impressive. They removed 20 years of paint and stain from two natural wood ceiling beams that are 20' high and refinished them to a beautiful, natural tone. The refinished cabinets for the bar area and upstairs nook look great, with new self closing latches. My wife and I are nearly 60 years old and really appreciate the thoughtful guidance in regards to how we can "modernize" the home appearance with different paint colors, baseboard style, recessed lighting, etc. Plus, they went out of their way to accommodate our two dogs during the relatively long contruction (due to so much work being done), by ensuring a path to get them outside for regular breaks, even with much of the house draped in plastic and drop cloths. We are now contemplating a Master Bath and Kitchen remodel. We will be sure to contact JJ Construction when we are ready!
