The store has a lot of product so it is convenient for some customers to go there. The store is not as clean. There are a lot of fruit flies on top of the fruits as well. Over priced compared to few other stores around. Not everything has its price listed on the package or on the shelf, so have to go around to find an employee to ask. Most of the stores have a limited capacity for customers to get into the store ... this store does not... there are so many people inside at any given time that there is no way they can practice 6' distancing from each other. And the store does not enforce wearing the mask. Additionally, the employees including the owner need to offer good customer service ... a smile every now and then, greetings and gentle personality makes a big difference. read more

Growing up in Tujunga 20+ years ago, this market was the jam for any Armenian goods, specifically marinated kebab & chicken wings, that we needed. My neighbors and many of my friends were Armenian and whenever their parents would grill, this was it. I still drive up to Tujunga from North Hollywood to buy grilling meat and the array of lavash they stock, along with anything else you need to make a middle-eastern meal. This store has an excellent selection of Eastern European products as well as standard grocery items. Great fruit and nut selection, all sorts of teas, a wide variety of baked goods. There are a lot of items that I enjoyed when I lived in Moscow: Caucasian mineral water, Turkish olives, Evreyskaya and Doktorskaya sausage, and Eastern European juices (much tastier than the stuff you find in standard supermarkets). The liquor department has a wide variety of Armenian wines and cognacs, and real Russian vodka (far, far superior to anything else at half the price). Several reviewers claim the staff is rude. Having lived in Russia and shopped there a lot, I understand what's going on. Eastern Europeans believe that if a stranger is overly friendly and all smiles, he's trying to cheat you. They understand that the smiley-smiley act is just that, an act. They behave like normal people helping other normal people. I understand Americans, and especially Californians, want service staff to kiss their a***s whether it's sincere or not, but frankly I prefer honesty to faked deference. I've had very nice interactions with the staff there--it's much more subtle, but they really are nice people. I've even gotten smiles out of them. Fancy that. Everything that's expensive does not have a price tag, this is how they trick the customers because most of the time you bring the stuff to the register and don't even pay attention until you are hit with a large bill, they sell stuff that should actually be in the trash can like old and moldy berries. I am never going to this store again. The owners are Armenian and most of their customers are Armenians so for them to do this to their own race it's really a shame. This is THE best market ! Their fresh produce is better than Any Farmers Market! They always have fresh basil which is very hard to find. Their cheese and meats is splendid and so is their nuts and fine whiskeys. I also love the ice cream they carry! All in all 5 plus stars! I happened to arrive at the market at 830pm...they close at 9. I asked the older gentleman with glasses in the deli if he could help me b/c i wanted deli meats and cheese and it appeared like he was cleaning the slicer. He said yes. And then turned around and under his breath said something derogatory to the other female staff. I don't look Armenian, however, I am fluent in the language. I would recommend to the deli staff - not talk smack about customers, especially when the customers understand the language. You never know these days who understands what. It's really embarrassing for everyone in the community. I promise I won't be as nice next time this happens. This was the 1st incident I've had and I've been going there for 1 year. read more

We love this market and my husband has shopped, often weekly, here for at least 5 years. Since 2011 I have enjoyed Foothill as well. Why have I not reviewed it? No idea. I love trying the unique Armenian food items. We get our French Feta, walnut wraps, olives and dried fruits and nuts in the deli. We love their fatoush and the special jams and cookies too. The produce department staff are really helpful too. It has a parking lot and is very convenient to us. Best item ever: marinated chicken and lulu kebab meat which we eat with a cucumber salad and rice. Foothill remains a favorite local business and we love stopping in for great foods. read more

Such is a typical trip to Foothill Food Mart (formerly Foothill Food and Drug). But, I tough it out, cos this is the place to buy meat and produce. When you're sick of the $4/pound tomatoes offered by the chain stores, hit up your local ethnic (Armenian in this case) market for some sweet deals and piercing glares. That aside, their deli is great. Lean meats, all kinds of cheeses, diced and marinated chicken ready for roasting or frying. They have the reddest, leanest ground beef I've seen anywhere. Their produce section always has fresh herbs, and great deals on roma tomatoes and hot house cucumbers. They sell yogurt with actual flavor, unlike the crap you get at the supermarket. Their soda section includes several surpsingly good tarragon sodas, and some non-alc sweet malt beverages. read more

I literally spend $20 on my addiction a week--I have a problem but they should keep feeding it! I would love it if they had more variety in brands, some of the lavashak tends to be stale. One star for their decent produce. That's it. But not worth it because the kabob meat here is TERRIBLE. Came here once less than a year ago and the meat tasted like it had been expired and unlike what traditional kabob meat is supposed to taste like. Think "meat glue," which is the closest association I can make. 2nd time (a few months later) we bought a different type of meat thinking things may have changed, but no. Still tasted awful, as though it had surpassed its expiration date. It seems to me that they still sell meat that has gone bad. Throwing it into the grinder and making it ground beef still doesn't mask the rotten taste. I took the rest back and got a refund because it was that bad. Customer service requires listening to customers... not hanging up on them when they call in wondering what was up with/in the meat. I won't be coming back here again. They used to call themselves Foothill Food and Drug, but they never had a pharmacy. LOL! I still crack up about that, and so does my family. My family introduced me to this grocery market, and I am so glad that they did, because now that I'm on my own, I can still bring home Armenian/Persian food, ready-made! The prices are very decent. My armenian friends buy food from here and then try to pawn it off as their mom's home cooking... and you know what? Most people believe believe them, because t's that good! I've shopped here numerous times over the past years, the staff has been getting more and more rude. The last straw was the checker was friendly to the person in front of me speaking Armenian & English. When I moved up she did not smile, acknowledge me in any way, told me the balance and gave me my change without saying a word. That is totally unacceptable behavior from anyone. As you can tell, most of the negative reviews focus on the poor customer service, which by American standards does from time to time seem to be lacking. That said, if you want fake smiles and automatic greetings, go to Vons or Ralphs. Yes there is code switching--changing back and forth from two or more languages-- and more than likely those who speak Armenian feel more welcome, while those who don't feel left out. Does this mean they are being discriminated against? In most cases no. So, in short, if you want to make friends, visit the pound. Despite its name "Foothill Food Mart" it is actually a small Armenian Market that sells mostly Armenian goods. It is very crowded (depending when you go) and small, barely anyone speaks English but they do their best, I wouldn't recommend going unless you need a very specific item. read more

It's a quaint little Middle-Eastern market. I love the quality of the meats here always fresh, and frequent coming in when I want to do barbecue or any type of meal with meat. It's always clean, and the quality of the products are great. They have a variety of cheeses, yogurts, etc. I love that the store is always clean no matter when you go. My mother and I are extra picky about how the meats are handled, and the workers always put gloves on before picking our pieces for us out of curtesy. I think that's nice that they're willing to go the extra step for us, despite it taking more time for them to get through with us. This is a place that will continue to get my business because of the way they handle their customer service, not to mention they put a lot of effort into the quality of the products they sell. read more

If im paying 12.99$ a pound for beef filet please dont mix last weeks beef with the fresh ones.
