    Chicken and Waffles
    Nikolai K.

Solid southern comfort food and a cool new option for fried chicken in the area! Chicken and Waffles - large waffle with three pieces of fried chicken breast on top. Comes with a container of sauce to drizzle on top or to dip the chicken, as well as syrup for the waffle. The waffle was soft and fairly average. The chicken was cooked well. Hot Chicken Sandwich - big piece of fried chicken breast inside a sandwich with slaw. Wish the chicken had a little bit more flavor and spice. Was also a little bit on the dry side. The fries that came with the dish were a little bit soft/soggy. The restaurant is quite chill and unassuming, very casual. There was a table near the front that had some boxes and random stuff on it, so we weren't immediately sure if the place was open. Of course it's crave worthy food just as it's fried chicken, but a few things could be improved - e.g. spice on the hot chicken sandwich, chicken could be a little juicier, the fries texture was not super crispy, and the clutter on the table was something that could be improved for the next time. Price is fair/high for the value.

It's about time this area got some soul food! I've been waiting for this day. Two of my favorite foods are fried chicken and Mac n cheese, so this is a dangerous place to have so close by. I ordered the spicy chicken and waffles. My husband got a spicy chicken sandwich, which came with an order of fries. The portions were HUGE, and the meal was tasty. We even got an order of grits, compliments of the chef. Those were also delicious. We tried to finish our food but we had to admit defeat and take some home with us... but it's actually better that way, because I get to eat some of this again tomorrow. The interior decor is sparse but clean and menu is straightforward. We were happy that we dined in, because we got to try the grits! This is a place I'll be visiting again soon. I highly recommend that you try it!

Stopped by here for lunch with a friend the other day. It was a cute place with kind staff, and the food was incredible. I got the fried okra (which were seasoned perfectly) and the pulled pork sandwich with fries (fantastic). Fair price for the filling, large amount of food; I'll definitely be coming back.

I got the mixed chicken plate with Mac n cheese and candied yams. The chicken was very good--fried very well with great seasoning, a crispy exterior, and juicy interior. The Mac was very gooey and cheesy. And the yams were excellent as well. I thought the texture of the yams was near perfect--not too hard but not too soft and mushy either. Also not overly sweet. I also felt like the price was very fair. A lot of times, similar entrees can cost near $30, but this was just over $20 which was super reasonable especially for the quality. The staff was very kind and friendly as well. Keep in mind that the interior is quite small, so plan ahead on whether you're going to eat inside or take it to go. But overall I'd recommend this to anyone in the area, and I'd love to go back!

I ordered from Coast Cafe expecting something special given all the awards and recognition--but…read morethis was a major letdown and honestly felt like a waste of money. Let's start with the "Jamaican" patties. These were not patties. They were empanada-style, lacking the flaky crust, seasoning, and depth you expect from a true Jamaican beef or chicken patty. At $5 each, that's not just disappointing--it feels misleading. Then the soul food. This is where it really fell apart. The chicken was dry, under-seasoned, and surprisingly small--more like an afterthought than a centerpiece. Soul food should be rich, flavorful, and comforting. This wasn't! The greens were another miss. No depth, no richness, and completely lacking the traditional pot liquor that gives them their signature flavor. It felt like a stripped-down version of what should be a staple dish. The only bright spot was the candied yams--they actually had flavor and were enjoyable. What's frustrating is the gap between reputation and experience. When a place has awards and hype, you expect authenticity, quality, and consistency. This didn't deliver on any of that. Overall, I wouldn't return. There are too many places doing this food the right way to spend money here again.

I was handed the menu with a glass of water. After looking over the menu they took my order. I ordered the New Orleans coffee. Good drink. A little on the sweet side but had a lot of alcohol! To start I had the tater tots. Pretty basic but it had a good seasoning to you! Not just salt and pepper! For the main dishes we had the Southern fried chicken sliders. It was a nice sweet and spicy blend. Not too spicy, just the right amount of kick to you! Also we got the chicken and waffles. As soon as we gave the menu back to them, not even 10 minutes later the food was at our spots. Piping hot and fresh. Mind you, the place was packed! So I'm not mad at that! The chicken thighs were seasoned well and juicy! The only thing I didn't like, was the waffle was kind of soggy and thin. Not like a Belgium waffle that is thick and crispy. But still, not bad. I would recommend trying them out but make reservations for a table.

The pulled pork sandwich was a good size with cole slaw, tender sweet BBQ pulled pork on a thick soft egg bun. The pulled pork was mostly lean meat, a bit dry, but it tasted just fine. The collard greens were so salty they were inedible and honestly concerning from a health standpoint. One plate that was supposed to include chicken, mac and cheese, and yams arrived with double yams and no mac and cheese at all. The other plate with catfish, potato salad, and collards was also disappointing. The catfish was overcooked, the potato salad was watery, and again, the collards could not be eaten. Additionally, the yams were gummy and seemed undercooked, as if they needed more time in the oven. Aside from the wings and fries, the rest of the order was a complete letdown.
