Piggy’s Deli & Pub - Italian

Total random roll while pulled off 95 on my way to DC having stopped to get gas and just looking…read morefor a local place nearby to take a break from being in the car and have some lunch. Turned out to be a good decision! Piggy's appears to be a pretty standard neighborhood grille and sports bar, serving sandwiches, salads, burgers, and a few other items along with a full complement of beers and mixed drinks. A lot of people were addressed by name while I was there, so clearly popular with the locals. Regardless, I got excellent service and was treated just as friendly as anyone else while sitting at the bar. Wanting to make things quick, I ordered a pair of hot dogs with chili, slaw, mustard, and onions. They have a lot of sides to choose from, but the bartender highly recommended the fries. My food came out quickly, and I was immediately taken aback at how big the hot dogs were! I have never seen a more loaded hot dog in my life. First of all, the frank looked like an all beef quarter pounder, and the bun was loaded to the brim with chili, slaw, onions. Had to be careful eating them, and a lot of the toppings spilled off, which made a nice topping for the fries. Great taste, the slaw is the kind I like, not much mayo. Chili was maybe a little cumin heavy, but I the buns were buttered and I really enjoyed the hot dogs overall. The fries though, they didn't steer me wrong. Honestly, some of the best french fries I have ever encountered. They are that slightly battered kind, crispy outside, tender inside, but they had a perfect blend of seasoning on them... and there were a lot of them. I have never struggled to eat a 2 hot dog combo in my life, but this one really filled me up. I did get a ranch to go with it, and this was the only disappointment, tasted like Kraft ranch. Maybe the craze over ranch ends at the VA line. All in all, this was an excellent road lunch stop. Definitely left full and ready to face the rest of my drive. Thanks for the distraction Piggys!

I got the Hot Italian grinder and it was meh. The meat was ok but just flat loaded on the sub roll. What shocked me was placing the lettuce, tomato, and onion on the bottom rendering the lettuce wilted. In addition it had like two pieces of iceberg lettuce, not shredded or anything, just two sad wilted pieces. The mozzarella sticks were decent. Overall service was slowwwwww, which would be ok if it was busy but it wasn't. My wife had the pulled pork which tasted good except for large pockets of fat peppered through. We expect fat in pulled pork but not large chunks. Overall it wasn't horrible but there are better options out there IMO

The corned beef and Swiss on rye is absolutely wonderful. Never had a bad meal here, and the wait staff is wonderful. We often go here with friends. My wife loves the place. Con: The interior is full of ads. EVERYWHERE. No escaping them. It's horrible, like being trapped in one of those sales things you get in the mail. Ambiance is zero. What's more, there's a lot of 5000K light and light blue walls - factory lighting. I'd give is a solid five stars but for that.

Doesn't really look good. Ordered the Reuben and onion rings to share. Reuben's are typically very large. This was a small Reuben and for sure could have eaten the entire thing. Onion rings were a bit soggy and table didn't like their fries either. The Reuben, though small, was very good. Service was quick and waitress was nice. The place is quite expensive for wha you get. We got 3 sandwiches, 2 with fries and 1 with onion rings, 2 waters and a sprite. It was $52. I think that is a bit high especially looking at size of sandwich but the were delicious.

It was so simple and so good!! Now I'm back and I want the full Southern experience. The deli lunch special was pimento grilled sandwich, and I added VA ham! It was FABULOUS! Ordered Cherrwine soda, a bag of chips and a double chocolate ice cream sandwich all for $16! What an experience!! I didn't get any of their meats or other gourmet products, but this would be my go-to place if I lived nearby. I ate this on a picnic table outside the public library and got to take in the quiet downtown area. I very much enjoyed Ashland Meat Market and everything the town has to offer. Now I'm off to my meeting, then back to DCA then on to Boston. I am so glad I got to soak in an hour of the good life!

They said they could do it (after i verified what i wanted a couple more times and was ASSURED that the ham would not be already smoked) so I placed the order. I went to pick it up today and this is a cured and ALREADY smoked ham. When I called to address the issue, the manager laughed at me and said "oh, well I guess we dont have what you wanted then" I now have to entirely change my plans AND disappoint my family on Christmas eve because I promised them all a home smoked ham for dinner. I wouldn't recommend ordering from here unless you want incompetence.
