Great little place to grab a bite with many options to choose from. Although seating is limited I recommend visiting even up at the bar area. Prices were reasonable and the staff was friendly. I also liked the art and decor inside they seem to be from local artists. I had the steak wrap which was perfect and it came with chips and salsa. I enjoyed the wrap it was refreshing with the veggies inside and thin sliced steak pieces. The chips and salsa were my favorite part. The chips were not too salty and not too thin. Stopped by this place for a bite after a long drive and was impressed by the high reviews! But even for a touristy spot is pretty subpar. There was 1 girl working the bar area and another the tables, but it wasn't very busy. Ordered the beans and rice, which came severely undercooked--I mean the rice was crunchy and getting in my teeth, same for my friends meal where it came as a side. Our server did not check on us at all or offer us any water refills on the sweltering summer day. Was maybe in and out in 20 minutes as we couldn't finish our food or get our waitresses attention to order something else. Drive past this and try out some other joint. read more

This was inarguably the BEST food I had on our trip! When we first walked in we were warmly greeted by our incredible waitress, who was so kind and quick. This food was very good although i wasn't very hungry and only had the chicken tenders they had a very nice crisp. This paired along with the fantastic service of the waitress that we had who was very nice, and we got our food lighting fast which made it all the more enjoyable. This was our second visit to Food Dudes. The first was successful when I ordered a Meatloaf Special. I really enjoyed it. Today I decided to go with the Blackened Mahi Tostada. I debated this since I had decided that I really am not a big Mahi fan, but based on one recent experience, decided I need to learn to like it, since there is so much of it served. It was the fish of the day and I had no choice. Ms T went for the Fish Sandwich, grilled. She forgot that it would also be Mahi but decided to stick with it. Mahi as the fish of the day, I suspect, appears on many days. Food Dudes let us down on this visit and as a result, I will never lure her back, even though I know some of the things are well done. What we had was not well done. Besides that, Ms T watched how they wash the glasses and decided she would never return. Ms T watches Chopped on Food Network. I usually am within earshot and have recently felt vindicated for complaining about lack of salt and seasoning on restaurant food. The judges frequently point out this same fault in food they are presented with. It is as though cooks have gotten together and decided that since salt is the Devil, there is no way that they should ever use any. It's treated like something poisonous. The issue is, it really can't be added at the table on many foods. There is a proper place and application for it. Ms T's Mahi was moist and mild but was not seasoned in any way. Again, no salt, no pepper, no nothing. Talk about boring. This is it. Not inspired, creative or even thoughtful as you would expect from a small foodie doodie place like this. I'm knocking off a star for that. My Blackened Mahi on my tostada was the same. There was no evidence of any blackening spices or technique. And again, no salt, no seasoning, no spice, nothing. It presented itself as a piece of plain steamed fish. Besides that, although the presentation looks impressive, the tostada was comprised of two dried out flour tortillas. No one who has any sensibilities would use flour tortillas for a tostada. One was set atop a bed of cumin with some rice in it, then some good black beans, then the fish filet followed by another dry flour tortilla. All was topped with some shoepeg corn and tomato salsa and some cheese sauce. The fish was moist and mild it just cried out for seasoning. The salsa went well with it as did the frijoles negros. The tortillas meanwhile turned to white muck. So I left the cumin with some rice in it and the two gooey tortillas. Gentlemen, I found your tostada to look very attractive, but you used flour tortillas, failed to season your fish and emptied the cumin drum into the plastic pellet rice. These are mistakes of amateurs and for that you've been chopped. That's another star. read more

Saw this place had some solid reviews over the last few months so we stopped in. It's a small little place, so if you have to wait... you gotta wait. We expect a few measley tuna slices on our tacos like back home and instead we're met with giant tuna pieces on each one- so fresh and so filling! One of my favorite places on the Outer Banks! Fantastic! Small place; we hit it at a lull and the wait was about 15 mins for our party of 7. They have a waitlist and callback system. The menu is awesome, bar menu has a variety to choose from. We tried the mahi mahi tacos, steak quesadilla, tuna bowl (specials list), and shrimp quesadilla. All were delicious - flavorful and creative dishes. The kids enjoyed burger, tenders, quesadilla - standards but done well. Our waitress was friendly and attentive! Only real con: the bathroom. It was grimy and felt sticky. From the girls answering the phones to the kitchen staff, everyone seems to know exactly what they are doing.. so much so that we got take out here two days in a row! We placed large orders both times and they were exactly correct, well packaged and DELISH! I was initially drawn in by the cheez it mac and cheese which I am happy to report was 100% worth the calories. While at the outer banks for my kids spring break, I ate at food dudes kitchen. It's my favorite new restaurant in a long time. I ended up eating there three times in two days. Each meal was great. Atmosphere is great, service is great and best of all the food was exceptional. I had seared tuna, my daughter had shrimp tacos and my son a burger all were fantastic. Came here on Sunday night (8/21) after a bad experience at Chili Peppers on Friday. We had to wait about 20 minutes but the wait was worth it. The waitress was very friendly and so was the gentleman behind the bar. I ordered the Tuna tacos with wasabi aioli, it was the special, and it was absolutely excellent. Cooked mid rare perfectly and the rice and beans were flavorful. My wife had the shrimp quesadilla and it was very flavorful and served piping hot. Excellent! What a way to start our first ever vacay in the Outer Banks. We depend upon Yelp to guide us especially when we travel, and it didn't let us down with this choice. As stated in other reviews, don't let the exterior and small space inside deter you. Great food and friendly service awaits! When we arrived, there were no tables available (there are only about 4-5 that can fit into the tiny space) but there was space at the bar. We were waited on quickly after being allowed to scan the local beer options. Hub opted for the KDH local brew, a lemongrass IPA, which was light and fresh. I chose the Bell's Oberon Wheat Ale. We started with the super fresh shrimp spring rolls. These are not fried, and served with a cucumber-tomato-onion-cilantro salsa and a soy dipping sauce. So tasty! We then opted for two of the specials - the fried coconut shrimp tacos and the pesto tuna with jasmine rice. Cooked to order, these generous entrees came out quickly. Our first comment was "wow!' The presentation was so nice. There were three huge coconut shrimp on each taco, along with mango salsa, on toasted flour tortillas. Yellow rice with black beans and salsa were on the side. Hub's tuna was served atop a bed of jasmine rice, and complemented with pesto and roasted tomatoes. The flavors together were a-ma-zing! One of the young owners came out from the kitchen and sat down at the bar, asking us how everything was. We raved about the food and let him know that we had found him on Yelp, that the reviews for Food Guys were stellar, and that's what drew us in. Food Dudes has been a must stop every time we vacation here so it kills me to have to write a less than stellar review but what we recently experienced was definitely not 5 star material. The place is small but efficient, our servers were attentive and we got our food fast. Now the food is typically delicious. Think seafood items with a SoCal/Mexican flair, but my goodness, something was off this visit. I had the blackened Tuna bowl which was like $23 and half of the tuna filet I got was cold, like discernibly cold. I mean, I eat sushi but I ordered blackened tuna and it was a tad under cooked, rather unevenly cooked. Warm parts of the filet were nice. Under the filet was a melange of corn and black beans and avocado salsa, all things I thought I would enjoy, but no. I have never tasted black beans so strong, they overwhelmed the dish. Were they old or something?? I couldn't stop thinking about how they just didn't taste right and I couldn't eat anything with a black bean on it. Then there was the avocado salsa, oh my gosh, did the top come off the salt shaker back there? The saltiest thing I've eaten in a while. I looked at my son who couldn't finish his grilled chicken sandwich, "I said what's the problem?" His reply, "Too salty." Chicken sandwich comes with a big dollop of, you guessed it, avocado salsa. My daughter's enjoyed their meals, a bacon cheeseburger and a fish tostada thing. My wife really didn't say much about her meal, but after paying a hefty bill asked me if we were done with Food Dudes. And I don't mind shelling out the $$ for great food, which is one of the things we love about coming to OBX but this experience was not great. Also, on top of all the taxes diners at OBX have to pay, FD has started charging a credit card fee... WHat?! I spend $150 at your restaurant and now you are going to nickel and dime your customers $3.50 for using a credit card? Don't your menu prices incorporate business expenses like credit card usage or do you expect people to roll around with wads of cash like it's 1985? Just more salt in the wound of a bad dining experience. read more

This is a small place not ideal for groups but they have delicious Sandwiches. We ordered black bean burger that came with a side of chips and salsa, a pbj sandwich that came with a side of fries and a Barbecue chicken quesadilla that came with a side of beans and rice.
