Quite possibly the best fish tacos in the Outer Banks.
Courtney K.

BLUF: Consistently excellent food served in a small, unassuming restaurant. I love Food Dudes Kitchen. I think it is some of the best food on the Outer Banks and the Blackened Tuna Nachos are the best nachos I've ever had. I also like the way they put their flour tortillas on the griddle to make the sides a little toasty and to give the tacos some shape. FDK always has a special board and I've never head a bad meal there. The restaurant is small and quaint. The probably only sit about 30 people and is best for smaller parties. The restaurant is decorated with local art for sale and they play a surfing video behind the bar giving it a very beach vibe.

I am not underestimating it when I say I come here a couple times a year when traveling because it's my favorite place in the OBX. Everyone I work with has seen the food and heard me brag on this place. Food is always fresh. Incredibly tasty. Made fresh to order. And I've literally never had a bad experience in the past ten years of going. This place is a gem.

Mahi Mahi tacos

The Mahi mahi blackened tacos came with a slaw that was tangy and added a crunch. The fish meat was tender and juicy though could have used a bit more flavor so I added some of the spicy sauce that they had on the table. Came with a side of rice, beans and pico. Portions/pricing were reasonable. The inside of the restaurant is quite small and there was a bit of a wait, but they turned tables over quickly and service was fast. Bring cash to avoid credit card fees!

We stopped her for lunch based off of the good reviews on here!! And let me tell you it didn't disappoint!! The waitresses were both so kind. We got tuna tacos and the sweet chili fish of the day. ( which was mahi-mahi). Both definitely had a little kick to them, but delicious!

Bomb Ahi tuna tacos! I also got a side of the guacamole which was to die for

It doesn't look fancy from the outside, but this was one of the best meals we had during our visit to the OBX. If they are available you MUST try the ahi style tuna tacos with wasabi aïoli! They are outstanding! Bonus points because they have hot sauce that is actually hot! Service was great too! Ps I'm gluten free and they were able to sub out the flour tortillas for corn

Jerk chicken wrap

TLDR - delicious quesadillas and wraps if you can handle a little spice Food - we ordered the Jerk Chicken Wrap and Shrimp Quesadillas. Both were delicious! The wrap was a bit spicier than we expected. Great for lunch but would probably need to order more food if you're very hungry. The shrimp quesadillas were excellent and a bit and more filling. The rice and beans were a throwaway but they kept my 8 month old entertained. Vibes - very casual, many folks came straight from the beach. Small eating space but the service is efficient. NO AC! We were hot but the menus were great for fanning. Food came quick so we were in and out.

This was a hidden gem tucked away in a strip mall. I don't think I would have noticed it from the street but Yelp helped me find this one. The food was stellar and the service was amazing. It's a small place but they are quick and friendly service. The food was very good and the drink and beers were tasty.

Mac and cheese appetizer. Steaming hot. Creamy. Excellent.

Ya'll! Worth every cent. Great hot food. I was worried when we walked in. So few cars. Small dining space inside. But the crowd did not reflect the quality. I assume most pick up to go to explain that. Service was frequent. Food outstanding. Portions great and reasonable prices. Wish we lived here to be regulars.

We were welcomed into this small, local , crowded place with several tables, some with wooden benches and a small bar. The ambiance was bustling and a bit noisy which was fine for us. The menu has lots of options such as fish sandwiches, tacos, bbq and salads. All of our hot sandwiches were freshly prepared, well seasoned, tender and perfectly cooked. The blackened fish and BBQ pork sandwiches were juicy and satisfying. In addition, they had a nice selection of local and craft beers. We wouldn't think twice about returning here on our next visit to the Outer Banks.

It's off season so getting table at lunch was easy. Staff seated us and took our order quickly. They were super friendly and gave us the "pointers" on food( no lettuce or tomatoe here). Draft beer and cocktails available. Food was super delicious and not overly gigantic. Our burgers were grilled perfectly with just a minimum amount of condiments(.50) for shrooms, grilled onions and mayo(yup, mayo costs money). The tots are a seasonal thing so I got that. Delicious as tots are usually a staple in my diet. Sodas are free refills and our server even gave me a to-go cup. I live a refreshing fountain soda. The indoor dining area has lots of beach themed decor. There is a full bar at the front. I think on the weekends and summer season they also have outdoor music.

We just can't handle a big lunch and wanted to avoid leftovers, so decided to split a pickle brined chicken sandwich with fries and an extra side of slaw. The sandwich was OK. To start with it needed more seasoning. How about breaking out the black pepper and garlic powder? The meat was uncharacteristically tough/chewy for chicken breast. I suggest they need to be pounding it to tenderize it and then brine it. It was actually hard for us to cut and eat. It really looked nice, but I think I am done with pickle brined chicken. It just never gets enough brine impact. They make good small caliber fries that were piping hot and the slaw was fine for me. Ms T did not care for it so I got it all. Our food was OK, not stellar. The service was excellent, but I still can't make this better than three stars. I hope to convince her to return for a burger during this trip.

I guess the Rockfish tacos were a daily special, so I ordered the "World Famous" Mahi tacos while Ms T ordered a crabcake sandwich. I think we were both a little disappointed. Her sandwich was definitely for bun lovers. She tore off enough bread for another sandwich and still had plenty. Restaurants are often guilty of conflating a huge bun with good sandwich. She was not particularly impressed with the crab cake, saying it was overloaded with thyme. I ordered my Mahi "blackened" and it really was not. The seasonings were good although also heavy with thyme. The flour tortillas were of poor quality, very thin and leathery and not provided hot. Hence the tacos were room temperature when eaten. I liked the finely shredded cheese that was not served refrigerator cold. The white sauce they serve is just wrong for these tacos. It is too sweet, too tart, making it harsh. Instead, I used the sauce that came with her crab cake and that was much better. Finally the mahi was very dry. I guess that is kind of the way that mahi is, but this really needed plenty of sauce. Kudos to them for serving good jasmine rice. This was not as good as we remembered. It is OK, not great and could be improved with just a few changes. We should have tried the burgers.

My wife got the ceasar salad and added a skewer of blackened shrimp. The shrimp were tasty but could have stood a little more spice. They have a nice wine selection including a good selection available by the glass. Also a nice beer selection with some local/NC beers on tap.
