The store is great the app is great the aides are great and everything else is great I recommend this store

Today my elderly mother and I visited this grocery store on May 15, 2026 at approximately 10:15 AM to purchase only 4 bags of cow manure. What should have been a simple and respectful transaction turned into one of the most unacceptable customer service experiences I have witnessed in a long time. My mother politely advised the cashier that we were only purchasing 4 bags of cow manure. Instead of acknowledging her, the cashier completely ignored her and proceeded to scan groceries for customers behind us as if we were invisible. I then calmly intervened and repeated that we were only buying 4 bags. Rather than handling the situation professionally, the cashier began mumbling and using disrespectful language toward my elderly mother. There is absolutely no excuse for speaking to seniors or customers in a disrespectful or hostile manner. Every customer deserves dignity, patience, and basic human respect regardless of who they are or how busy the store may be. Watching my mother be treated this way was deeply upsetting and completely unacceptable. Management needs to seriously address customer service standards, employee professionalism, and respect toward elderly customers before more people experience this kind of treatment. People do not spend their hard-earned money to be ignored, disrespected, and spoken down to. Until this store takes accountability and ensures customers are treated with dignity and respect, I strongly encourage people to think carefully before supporting this business. Terrible store. Shoplifters galore, nobody does anything even when you bring it to their attention. Never buy fruit or vegetables from here, I have never had anything that I didn't wish I hadn't bought. I am considerably disabled and in a wheelchair and it is the closet store to me so I don't have a choice but to go there sometimes. Today I went to buy ice cream: 3 shelves, the bottom shelf didn't have the flavour I wanted, the middle shelf was all frost covered--and the top shelf you couldn't even see what the flavours were because it was all frosted right in. Super long line ups nearly all the time, and when they are really long they don't even call 2nd cashier to come. No express desk. They just don't care at all. read more

This was supposed to be a simple Western Union money pickup. I told the amount ($600) and that my ID was expired and could receive it with an updated card. I brought the updated ID and was told the money would not be disbursed because they didn't have enough. When I politely asked for the manager she called 911. I will not shop at this or any of their stores. This store needs to be shut down, period! read more

Bad behaviour and manners from Food Basic Customer Service My name is Subhash, My shopping purchase code is 41000431004290210922 dated 14/4/2021 at 17.44.29 PM I have been shopping from this Food BASICS store for more than 10 years. Today was a strange day. I purchased my some grocery along with a small bag of baby carrots, When I came home, I found baby carrots were full of fungus and were mushy. I went back to return the carrot to the store. Customer service Mr. Saad tried to convince me that why I did not notice fungus while buying. After arguing, he mentioned me he can not take back my carrots, on the other hand he treated me so bad saying to me "Fuck off" many times and "never come to store" CCTV camera can tell the whole incidence. I reported to manager Maimoon and requested if she can go over CCTV camera about the incidence. She was helpless and she acknowledged that it is normal for customer service to say like that. In Thorncliffe, the decor of this place is pretty depressing. However, keep your eye out on deals that this place has. If I know that I have to buy a lot of packaged things (i.e. almond milk, Diet Coke, crackers etc.), this place is much cheaper than the likes of Longo's, Sobey's, Loblaw's, and Metro. I'm not sure how to get here by transit, but if driving, there's a huge lot so you don't have to worry about looking for parking. Good for: grocery read more

Awful grocery store. Understocked (allowable during Covid/supply chain issues) but the real issue is rude, dismissive staff. I suspect they are understaffed but the cashiers are few and far between and seem to be annoyed. This was my observation after standing in line for a good 30 minutes. It is also quite dirty. I consider this place my birth control. People let their children run absolutely wild in this store. I'm not saying this based on a one-off experience. I can guarantee that every single time I am in the store I run into a child with a cart when they sprint around a corner uncontrolled squealing and flailing their arms. That's like one child a week I'm running over. This is becoming a public health and safety concern. The customers here also do something I've never seen anywhere else. They bring a family of 10. One person stands in line immediately. The rest run into the store and get things and bring them back to the person in line. The person in line, however, won't let the cashier ring them in until the entire grocery order has been brought to them, holding up the lines. These individuals put their produce on the floor without produce bags and generally buy 10 - 20 4L jugs of vegetable oil. Honestly, it's the strangest thing I've ever witnessed and I'm the kind of person that goes to at least five different grocery stores per week. They usually have the sales in stock. Prices are good. I just can't deal with the clients so I hate this location. My boyfriend prefers it for ease of driving so I'm always stuck at this one. Ugh... My life... read more

I love this store. The produce is beautiful and fresh (unlike some Food Basics locations I've known) and half the price of the same stuff at Metro. I was thrilled to find a store that sold paneer and other Indian/Pakistani/Bengali groceries so close to home. No more longing for a trip down to Gerrard. One tiny little bitty problem: no bike rack. Nobody in this neighbourhood has a bike rack as far as I can tell. Chain up to a stop sign or the shopping cart corral. ETA 16 Oct 2011: I've been here twice in the last month and they've stopped selling paneer. D: Gotta figure out which of the little grocery stores nearby sell it. Food Basics is still worth going to for the other prices, but geez. I miss the paneer. ETA 10 Dec 2011: om nom nom they got the paneer back. Nom. ETA 1 Feb 2012: okay... so I started eating meat. Shush. It might be because it's winter and I need the food energy. Anyhoo. Food Basics has the best craving-satisfying meal deals. They have these fantastic barbecued halal chickens, and they usually do a deal like $10 for a chicken + 2L pop + 1lb macaroni salad + a big baguette + a box of donuts. Seriously. read more

One of the dirtiest, messiest and under stocked grocery stores I've ever seen, they're undergoing renovation right now so it's even worse. Can you guys bother to even clean the entrance during the fall? There are more leaves in the store than outside! Years back, Food Basics marketed they won some award for the best produce in town which I haven't seen for a while now. In my opinion their produce is not fresh at all. Berries usually on the shelves with white fuzzy mold in the cartons, filthy and bruised potatoes, it goes on... Purchased a 4L bag of milk with the expiration date listed two weeks after. 3 days later, my milk is as thick as yogurt. read more

Just another FB like any other food basics. Produce is the usual low quality but cheap most of the time. They usually have pretty good sales on package goods But most of the time if you wait a couple days they are out of stock. So unless you go friday morning good luck The staff here have a pretty sad attitude. Unless you catch any of the managers the odds are you'll just get an over there finger point or a sorry sold out and walk away. If it wasn't the closes one to me the odds are i wouldn't go But since they have some good sales once in a while it's always a good place to stock up on stuff you use regularly read more

Not one star but none! This store SUCKS. Came here on a Friday night for my weekly shop and was very disappointed. No carts or baskets were available. The line ups were long to pay and the store is laid out in this weird maze. Oh and did I mention they sell expired meat? Nice. I won't be back. read more
