The bar tender does not know what he's doing. We ordered the 150yr Grand Mariner for the 3 of us, but the pour was about 3/4 of an ounce! The pour didn't even come close to the rim when I laid the snifter on it's side. It should be 1. 5 to 2 oz, so we were given 1/2 shots at full price! The bartender made a big deal out of how big a shot it was. I borrowed his jigger and tested the pour using Pepsi. His top shelf margarita has sour mix. Mojitos with no limes!? He just muddles the mint with simple sugar and claims it's the best way to make a mojito. He's a bit too proud of himself. I was a bartender for 10 years in Miami and the Keys, so I know it's easy to get an ego in this industry, but you'd better be good. It's not ok to rip people off in a small town. Word gets out. I didn't complain or ask for more, I just consider it an education on where not to go. The vibe of the place is cool; low light, fun and funky art. It feels like a indo-lounge spot, but the reggae music didn't fit the theme. It's ok to smoke inside. Some will like this. I don't smoke but the smell was tolerable. read more

It is pretty. Nicely appointed with comfortable bar stools. First trip we were the only couple in there and had nice service from a warm and appropriately chatty bartender. He suggested interesting rums when we asked about one he didn't have. I also tasted a great Pinot Noir I still seek out at the store. Next trip I'm pretty sure we were bothering them when we asked (we had to ask) to order drinks. Same thing the third time. It is overpriced for the area and does think a lot of itself. We drink elsewhere now unless we notice the place is relatively empty and the bartender looks friendly. read more

Well let me start by saying this was my favorite bar. I enjoyed the great atmosphere and great service. The last few times it's been less than desirbut I continued to stop in hoping it would be better. Tonight I went on for a drink. First its Saturday night and the bar didn't open as posted but then Andrew the bartender meets us with an almost completely dark bar and then proceed to display behaviors of someone on serious drugs. It was the most uncomfortable stops I've made. He was most definitely on something. So we drank one beer and left. I will never return there if hes working. read more

I've been to Foo Bar twice since moving to the Melbourne area in early March of 2015. I asked a number of locals their suggestions for a quality bar with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly service, and Foo Bar was usually near the top of their list. After moving to town from an area with few if any watering holes of substance, I was excited to give this "completely awesome and chill place" (as the leasing agent at my apartment complex stated) a try. The bar itself has great ambiance. Upon walking into the bar from the sidewalk, one enters a patio area with a number of cushioned deck chairs surrounding communal outdoor tables. The indoor area is lavishly decorated with custom woodwork above the bar. Bordering the rear wall of the bar is a lounge area with comfortable couches and ottomans which blend perfectly with the color scheme. The bar serves no food. Smoking is permitted inside and out. As a non-smoker, I was worried due to the bars relatively low ceiling that lingering smoke would be an issue, however, the ventilation system in the bar worked very well as the smoke from other patrons was largely undetectable. A mix of 90s hits along with a few oldies sprinkled in played over the bar's sound system, which was easily heard but not overbearingly loud. A flat screen television near the center of the bar could be seen clearly. Conversations between patrons could take place at normal tone of voice and drink orders could be heard without having to shout to the bartenders. This I felt was a very nice touch. Both of my visits to Foo Bar took place in the middle of the week during off peak hours. During my first visit, two bartenders, one male, one female were tending the bar, with a total of about eight to ten patrons, counting myself in attendance. I was noticed by the male bartender upon entering as we exchanged waves. Thinking he would come to my side of the bar to take my order, I sat patiently, but was surprised to see him continue his conversation with the patrons seated the other side of the bar for about three to four minutes, after which he proceeded to begin cleaning glasses, apparently forgetting I had walked in. The female bartender also noticed me when I entered the bar, but was deeply engrossed with a number of tickets at the cash register, reading the same checks repeatedly before scribbling figures on a notepad. After being ignored by the male bartender, I raised my hand to get the female bartender's attention. This action seemed to annoy her, as she placed pen and pad down and stated to me, " Huh ? Oh, did you need something?" After ordering a bottled beer from her, she returned to her pad, all the while not checking on me or the other patrons. After a ten or so minutes, my bottle sat empty. Meanwhile, the male bartender finished cleaning his glasses. He walked towards my side of the bar and stated, "Whoa dude! I forgot you were down here! Sorry man!," as he saw my empty bottle. I politely declined his offer for another drink, paid my tab, and left. As one who gives establishments the benefit of the doubt, I ventured back to Foo Bar the following week thinking my first trip was simply a "bad night." The female bartender was tending bar alone, again with about eight to ten total patrons present. She asked for my ID, which I provided to her. She glanced at my ID suspiciously, switching between two different pairs of reading glasses to read it. I found this odd, as my ID is regular state issue, and unfortunately I very much look my age. :). After giving it back to me, she stated, "Uh, yeah, um, we get a lot of under-agers in here, you know." I ordered a Crown and Coke from her. The order seemed to fluster her. She triple poured my drink, and then was annoyed when I asked for a lime. The drink itself was awful. After attempting to choke down three sips, I slide it away. I observed during both of my visits a few of the same patrons. They have a strong local connection with the bar, as indicated by their casual conversations with the bartenders about everyday topics such as their children's schools and local jobs. This was the appeal that the locals that I asked for bar suggestions were speaking of. For the locals who know the bartenders, this could indeed be seen as a " completely awesome and chill place," but as newbie, the welcome was far less than warm. I understand the need to maintain the friendly hometown flavor and the importance of keeping the regulars happy, but the general of feeling of apathy from the staff towards me during both visits was ridiculous. Foo Bar has the potential to be a great bar. If the staff could work to create middle ground between hanging with their friends and running a business, this would be an ideal location for all. Until then however, I cannot recommend Foo Bar. That is unless you went to high school with the bartenders... read more

Used to be my favorite bar downtown but has gone drastically downhill. Completely new staff, used to visit when Scott, RJ and Justin worked, drinks were always on point and service and vibes great. Stopped in Thursday night, place was nearly empty and bartender was too busy on phone and barely paid attention to my friend and I. When we finally did get our drinks, sloppy and way to sweet. Bartender was short with us and acting off. Very weird environment. tables were sticky and dirty, obviously not cleaned properly in awhile. Don't know what's happened, management or owner change, but STAY AWAY. Much better alternatives downtown. read more

OK...so I'm a creature of habit. Once I find a place I like, I'm pretty devoted. Foo Bar is that place I'm just devoted to. I guess I like the ambience. It's dark and loungy and has a mixed crowd that makes for great people watching. I like the music and even though it's small and can get loud, you can always escape to the front patio for some fresh air. It's an intimate place for good conversation with a cool vibe. read more

Soooo I drive here almost 200 miles for my friends birthday ! We order drinks which surpasss the 3 dollar buds whitch cheap college students ask for. After, the gay bartendender tries to rip off a foreigner for the change of buying a corana for 100 dollars he ask the bouncer to kick me out after I tried helping the foreigner for misatkingly paying the bartender a $100 dollar bil instead of 10 dollars. After I rescued him from financial disaster I started talking to this woman who was from the hometown of melbourne, I bought her a corona and boutght myself one as well. In an act of discrimanation and anger the bartender mentioned that my drink was warm and emptied both our drinks in our presence. After, I rightfully complained he had a meat head bouncer escort me the way out... Honestly, drinks are worth wayy too much and for the horrible customer service u get there you are better off staying home and drinking by yourself !! read more

Wow. What a bunch of idiots. The waitress ran off with my credit card after I had been there for a couple of hours. She claimed she did not give it back since I had not met the minimum credit card charge of $10. I insisted they return my card and they said I should leave. They were not nice about it. They are on a street with 20 establishments but acted as if they were the "last chance cafe". Will not return. Suggest if you are in the area you stop by Matt's Casbah , they are actually a nice group of people. The food was good too. read more

The owner is nuts, came out totally drunk and slurring and completely embarrassed me and my guests, even threatened to kick us out because she " owned the place and so she could do whatever she wanted. My husband and I enjoyed this spot on many of our date nights. While small, it is comfortable and very trendy for it's location. It reminds me of a chic bar in Soho (NYC) where you'll find your favorite celebrity at their coolest. There's an outside patio, but no room for live entertainment or dancing. Simply a hip spot with an air of romanticism and great art on it's walls. There is a full bar, and comfortable seating along the wall. The specialty cocktails are a must. read more

Came here with some friends one night for happy hour (1/2 price). It was apparently a good time to come, as the bartender seemed quite bored and raring for an excuse to drink. So basically for every drink we ordered she gave us a round of shots (patron even) that she would partake in with us. There was only like 4 other people in the place (40 somethings) so the bartender paid us 20 somethings close attention. Especially after a lil %100 Agave got flowing through her blood stream. Aside from the free booze, the best part about this place was the aesthetics. You walk in to an outside "patio" with tiki torches, live bamboo, fountains, tables and couches. It had a very asian, Mr Miyagi's house kind of feel to it. The inside was equally as nice, with dim lighting and tons of leather sofas and such to relax on. We came back on a busy wednesday night, and it wasnt quite as fun for us. Actually, we didnt even stay. The guy/ratio was not in our favor, and it was tremendously smokey. But the bartender was there and recognized us (surpisingly, I figured she wouldve black us out), but we didnt care to partake. All-in-all Id say its a cool place to come with some friends to have a nice chill evening, but not necessarily on a busy night. read more

They have terrible customer service and the drinks are not great. Would not recommend you order anything on the drink menu and just stick to the basics. The bartender was completely rude. They refused to split the bill at the end of the night. About 10-15 minutes before close they turned the lights up and the bartender blew a whistle to kick people out, and yelled at customers who weren't moving as fast as he'd like. Seriously? That is how you treat your customers? How about instead you call last round and give people a chance to close their tabs in a timely manner. Then you wouldn't need your security to run around intimidating people at the last minute (literally pulling people out by their arms, who were already on their way out the door). I've seen other reviews that talk about the poor customer service so seems to be a theme here! Also overall they could use an update, the decor and furniture are especially shabby and the cleanliness is questionable. read more

Whenever my friends and I go out for drinks we start here and most of the time just stay here, even with all the other bars in the area. The prices docked them a star, especially considering that they aren't the greatest tasting drinks. It's the nature of the drinks that I like. Champagne drinks, thank you, can't find those just anywhere. The decor is fabulous and makes me feel like I'm in a trendy hip district. The Buddha statue is a nice touch, I call him drunk buddha because he's making raise the roof hands. We've never had bad service, just indifferent service, and honestly given the ambiance of the place, that's fine with me- it seems to fit. I love the couches instead of tables and chairs. It's a nice little change of pace from an ordinary bar. This is the kind of place to wear a little black dress to. Gorgeous setting as noted by a few folks here. Go during happy hour for great specials which currently starts at 6pm. Things start to get busy and exciting around 9pm'ish and people-watching is a lot of fun if you're there with your significant other. My boyfriend and I have been a few times now and look forward to shaing it with friends and family as they visit us. Scott is the bartender we generally have and he's very attentive, professional and knowledgeable. My girlfriend and I visited once during the late afternoon after doing some downtown shopping. The place is certainly well decorated and comfortable. We sat outside on the patio and had several glasses of wine. The bartender was very attentive and courteous, and the people around us were very friendly. Wow, one of my favorite bars in the country, and I travel a good deal. And in Melbourne? Dark wood panels, kewl local art, great special events, etc etc etc. The crowd varies by hour of day: bikers, MILFs, younger types, downtown Melboring lounge lizards. A surprise every time. The bartenders are all very experienced. I got to talk to the owner last time, not what you would expect: a really attractive woman with an amazing business sense. Drinks are unique twists on the mundane (e.g. Foo Tea instead of Lawn Guyland Iced Tea) or just local creations. Yes smoking is allowed. I am a nonsmoker and make the sacrifice for all the other advantages. Best bartenders: Scotty, Kendyll, Michelle, DA BEAR, Kim, Richie Rich. Maybe I forgot one or two, sorry. Foo Bar is a Finely run Business, and the drinks are pricey, but the atmosphere worthy of the prices. The place is an OASIS of Goodtimes, the OPIUM Den without the OPIUM. There are now barriers or losers in FOO BAR. Everyone is welcomed and Loved on by just about anyone. There are many Students, and business professionals which frequent Foo Bar. Singles Mingle and dont need "Social Websites to make actual long lasting friends" Foo Bar is the place to Meet and greet, and have a seat. 2:00 am Close time is almost like hell, because Noone wants to leave the NEST! the only way to describe Foo Bar is Sexually stimulating. the design is spectacular, the fireplace the Bright Red two sided couch and original art work.
