I have enjoyed socializing at FooBar and the great atmosphere for years. I especially enjoyed going there to see my favorite downtown Melbourne bartender, Crystal. She always made my foo experience top-tier! I was stunned and rather upset to find out that she is no longer bartending there. FooBar is not the same with out Crystal's infectious joy and customer appreciation. I only hope that the owners come to their senses and hire her back. read more

It was my first time visiting the area with my boyfriend and it was my bday so we wanted to check out a local bar. We were ID'd and had my bag checked upon arrival, the guard was very friendly. There's exterior seating and speakers so we can vibe out to the music outside and inside. The interior is very speakeasy vibes with couches and seating at the bar. The bartender was cool & offered us his new creation, a spin on an Old Fashioned, called "New Fashioned"--super tasty! Bouncer is a joke. Nothing quite like a bad taste entering a place that is trying to make it after they shutdown due to Covid. Guy is spewing off about dress code and looks like he's in a clown suit for a birthday party. Enjoy your overpriced drinks and cigar-ridden chimney house. We had RJ taking care of us and after service is some wine he gave us a history of the art on the walls... totally fun and we stayed for another glass. Someone told me that they didn't like this place because they played super loud house music but when I went they played kick ass old school rock and I could still talk to my friend. This used to be one of my favorite bars DT, however, they changed bar tenders, became more casual, then their new bar tenders just blended in with all the other bars and could not make specialty drinks, in addition to that, the art from the walls are non existent any longer and the great energy that was once there is now gone. Seems like the owner has lost interest in this bar- and you can feel it. We went there for New Years 2020- they played house music all night, no words, no waitresses to take drink orders, no class----there was no countdown to the new year. I have been here a couple of times before, but never had the chance to hang around and sit down until last night. While the music is definitely edgy, and the seating is nice and relaxing, the bartenders, bouncer and managers are pieces of shit walking the Earth. These people turn on the lights 25 minutes before closing time, and the bouncer and the bartenders started pacing up-and-down the bar harassing people and bullying them to finish up their drinks. I understand the need to enforce the law, however not everyone in a bar at closing time deserves to be treated like sloppy drunk college kids. I went here with a friend, and we were both severely disappointed with the staffs behavior. Both of us were harassed and bullied to finish our beers multiple times. when my friend went into the restroom, a bartender pounded on the door and specifically instructed him to "not take a shit". I was literally pushed out of the bar at 1:50 AM, despite the fact that I told them that I am waiting on my friend who was in the restroom. I just find this behavior absolutely appalling, and unacceptable. They have lost my business. read more

After supporting this local bar for almost a year, I'm not sure I can anymore. For the first time my boyfriend and I got turned away for the way we were dressed. Never in all the time I have been coming have they had a dress code. Bouncer saw me and my partner holding hands before entering and suddenly they had a dress code not allowing me to wear a tank top. I've been in Melbourne for 3 months. This place has the friendliest patrons, allows smoking indoors, and plays soft-house music. A fully stocked bar, plenty of comfy seats, and decently priced drinks. This place has an older vibe 30s-40s. It is very lounge-y and isn't overly loud. Bartenders are quick with drinks and they are strong. This is definitely my favorite place in all of downtown Melbourne. Foo-tastic! read more

Foo Bar is exactly that, a bar. Not a night club and not a PUB. Its an upscale bar with tons of attitude. Walking in you realize this is not a bar you expected. The outside patio just makes you relax as soon as you look around. It's the only bar in downtown Melbourne that looks like it was decorated by a professional interior designer. As a matter of fact, it actually was. The female owner has taken great pride in showing off all of the hard work she has put into the place. The outside patio that has huge cushiony couches and coffee tables. There is a gorgeous custom made all wood bar ( I'm guessing $10k worth?!) and back wall. The leather bar stools and ottomans are studded and there is a couch that wraps around one wall!! Custom Again. The music during weekend nights turns into house music but during the week you can hear anything from 80's to good old classic favorites. The bar and waitstaff are truely one of a kind. The owner and managers really take their time in picking the staff. They are all very genuine and very pleasant and the service is great when it is not packed. You will have to be pacient when it is. This place goes from spacious and roomy to butt to belly button on Thursday through Saturday nights. there are only two bathrooms in the bar and they are unisex. if you and your friend need to go weeeeeeeeee bring them along because the lines get long. the coveted spot in Foo Bar is the U shape "NOOK". That's where I look for my best friend. He will be the one with his shoes off and bare footed or in the winter comfy warm socks sticking out.. The patrons are very ecletic. You have your typical clubbers and college students but you will see the more experienced folk there too to have a glass of wine or a Rob Roy. I have been there on numerous ocassion and if you want a place to hang out, take it easy and meet wonderful people this is the place to go. whenever i get the chance i will be there having a merlot... The hubby and I were up in Melbourne for Fat Tuesday and were hitting a few establishments along the "strip." Post dinner, we were looking for a place to have dessert and while walking past, peeked in Foo Bar. We stopped, looked at each other and both commented in unison, "that place looks cool!" Seeing as it was early and only a few patrons were inside, we sat right at the bar. Our bartender rocked: (Scott) Attentive, knowledgeable, friendly, and maker of damn good drinks. Margarita: one of, if not thee best, I've ever had. The bar started to fill up around 9 and Scott handled it effortlessly. He did have relief arrive--as I'm sure it continued to get busier after we left. We will definitely be back...next Tuesday in fact! (So guys, get in line behind the girls!) Second, there is a creepy sign in the bathrooms that say you are under surveillance to prevent vandalism. I'll start by saying although I'm not overly fond of this place, I have been here several times when my friends wanted to go. They're a bit pricey for mixed drinks. $8 for a Jim Beam and Coke, for example. We normally get very decent service, which is the only reason I returned in the past. This is not my stance after last night. I was here with a small group of friends, 4 of us. At 1:44am my phone rang from another friend that needed a ride. The place was packed and I had to step right outside to hear the phone. I went to immediately walk back in to rejoin my friends who were 15 feet away. The bouncer told me they already did last call, and I couldn't return. I explained I had a tab, and he rudely said he would escort me to get my card. I corrected him, pointed to my friends and explained, "its not my card, we have a tab as a group under her card, but I need to pay my portion." He said I was "pulling a slick one" and informed me I needed to leave or he would remove me. He then sized me up. Note-I'm not a small guy, but am a multiple combat tour Army Special Operation veteran, who has never been kicked out of a bar in his life. I replied. "Are you serious, I simply need to pay my tab." He proceeded to physically remove me. There was no struggle or resistance, but he ended our little confrontation with, "And don't come here anymore." Even the other patrons around me were astonished at the aggressive actions of this bouncer . Keep in mind, the place was still packed. I bored you with the story only to let you know this place didn't treat me properly. When that happens, they not deserve business. Especially at $8 for a Beam and Coke. The drinks are a little pricey, but the atmosphere is pretty cool. I wish it were more ventilated; not wild about so much cigarette smoke since I don't smoke. I found out this place is dog friendly - not just outside, but inside, too, including on the couches. That might get me to come back here again with my boys.
