Tried this place out for the first time today after getting some Blue Bowl across the street and was surprised to see they serve some amazing Mexican food. The lady working the cash register clarified our confusion which may happen to others who also come for the first time - apparently it is a breakfast / brunch spot called Anepalco from morning till the afternoon, which is what we initially thought we were going to eat but since we came during dinner, it was Fonda Moderna Del Sur. Anywho, the change wasn't going to deter us from trying some things out since it smelled delicious from outside. We ended up ordering the rib eye burrito along with a tripas taco, al pastor taco, and an eloté. It didn't take long for all the food to come out and it all looked very presentable and tasty. And to our satisfaction, everything ended up being really delicious. I would give this place 5 stars but I must say, it is on the expensive side for Mexican food. But if you're willing to spend a little more for some higher quality Mexican classics, then I suggest you give this place a try.

tried this place for the first time last night and I will say I'm so glad I went for it . Definitely a must try if u haven't. Yea they are a little on the expensive side but u get what u pay for they are very very good! The lengua tacos were so delicious I had to order more . The carne con chorizo were also very delicious!!! So good I had to order a burrito with that meat . 10/10 for sure!

We came here for dinner after seeing a video on Instagram. They noticed we were first timers to the restaurant so they offered recommendations on the menu. The entire staff were friendly and helpful. There's plenty of seating both inside and out. The only issue is a lack of parking since it's a small strip of businesses adjacent to CHOC/St Joseph's. Coming for dinner shouldn't be a problem most of the time. They recommended the carne asada which was intriguing since they also have prime cuts of beef as a speciality. I also had the waygu ribeye and was surprised to think the carne asada was better than the waygu. It was juicy and tender. Perfectly cooked. I also tried the tripa. I've had tripe in my pho plenty of times but never in a taco. The texture was different than what I'm used to but I loved it. It se slightly crispy from the grill and had a great smokey flavor. All in all it was a great experience with perfect service and fantastic food. We'll be coming back here often.

Hands down, best tacos in Orange County! The flavor of the meat is what makes these tacos absolutely phenomenal! My only regrets is not getting more carne asada tacos. Right out front, you can find them smoking and grilling the meat which gives the carne asada this incredible flavor! I would HIGHLY recommend this spot for anyone who's looking for some amazing tacos!

Tacos were amazing! I had the ribeye, filet mignon and iberico tacos - all the meats were juicy and so flavorful! Can't beat these prices either! Service was so nice. Will definitely come back again soon!

Wow wow wow!!!!! The food here is seriously AMAZING. Very tasty and delicious. We got torta with chicken, nachos with carnitas, and the filet minon taco. All were so good. 5/5. Fresh salsa bar. Wonderful service too, everyone was very friendly. The only thing is we didn't realize is that during the day there is a different restaurant here so we went back the next day at lunch wanting tacos and realized they only open 5-10pm

    Gotta eat them all!

Best tacos ever. Tacos that you would see featured on Netflix's Taco Chronicles. Prime cut meats cook over wood and charcoal! Salsas flavorful. Even the chips were superb. Friendly service. Anepalco did it again.

Filet minion burrito after two bites because I was too excited to take the picture first.

The tacos are AMAZING! The burritos and tortas are also amazing! I make a point of eating here a minimum of once a week. Diana takes great care of us and is ready to help you pick out what works best for your palate. Do not miss eating here.

Great food. It's a bit smokey inside and the parking might be tough on a busy night. Tacos are worth the higher than normal price.

The carnitas themselves are the star--tender, juicy pork that's been slow-cooked to perfection with that signature crispy edge on some pieces, delivering rich, savory flavor without being overly greasy. It's seasoned just right, with a nice balance of porky goodness and subtle spices that let the meat shine. Wrapped in a large, fresh flour tortilla (they make their own in-house, which always helps), it's stuffed generously with the classics: fluffy Mexican rice, creamy refried or whole beans (depending on your preference, but both work great), chopped onions, cilantro, and a solid dose of salsa. I went with their green salsa for a bright, tangy kick that cuts through the richness perfectly, plus a dollop of sour cream and cheese for that creamy melt. No skimping on portions here--it's hearty and filling, easily a meal that satisfies for hours. At around $10 (give or take, based on current pricing), it's a great value in the area. The burrito holds together well without falling apart mid-bite, and the overall balance of textures--tender meat, soft rice/beans, crisp onions--makes every mouthful enjoyable. If you're in the mood for classic carnitas done right in a casual, bakery-taqueria spot with great salsas and a friendly vibe, this one's definitely worth grabbing. I'd rate it 4.5 out of 5--only docking half a point because it's not reinventing the wheel, but it's executing the traditional style exceptionally well. Highly recommend if you're near 728 N Tustin St in Orange! Pair it with an horchata, yum

My boyfriend went with the carnitas burrito, and it was packed with tender, juicy carnitas and generous portions all around. We also grabbed a flaky pastry in the attached bakery (I didn't catch the name), but it was perfectly buttery and light. Service is always friendly and efficient, even when they're busy, and the vibe feels very local and welcoming.
