I don't know why it took so long for us to try FOMO. It's been out list forever. We met some people at a Yelp event who highly recommended it, so we finally decided to give it a go. The person who answered the phone was incredibly nice! Very easy to order. We ordered two pounds of chicken: one of each flavor. The pieces were massive, with plenty of meat. They were hot and covered in sauce. So many places skimp on the sauce, but FOMO did not disappoint. The chicken pieces were good... no gross stringy pieces. They were huge too! I could only have a few pieces before I was super full. The flavors were excellent. For once, I think I liked the soy garlic better than the spicy one. Came here on a rainy night because sis saw an Instagram post about them and she needed to come. Sis has a high degree of FOMO so we went to the appropriately named place fo' mo' chicken. I tried the Sweet Soy Garlic Box which was everything it promised- sweet garlicky soy sauce with a nice thin sauce that peppered the rice and made it delicious. The cole slaw that came with it was small, but very fresh (it tasted like it was shredded to order) and it came with pickled radishes which I am not a fan of but sis is and she reports that it was sooo good. She got the Southern Box and that was a little disappointing. It wasn't as flavorful as my order. Maybe we were hoping for a flavor kick like you get when there are 11 herbs and spices, but this tasted more like there were four herbs and a spice and lots of flour so it didn't really wow us. Both meals weren't made of chicken parts (leg thigh, wing, etc) but kinda like chicken breast, but I don't want to say that because the meat was moist and not dry like you get with chicken breast. Sis' sides were the mashed potato and gravy which she didn't finish and the corn was basic can of corn. Maybe would've been better if it was buttered and maybe throw some pepper on it, but it was pretty bland. She also got a tiny cup of cole slaw like I did and she was also impressed by the freshness. The area has a bunch of other trucks and it looks like this place is crazy fun on a warm day, but tonight the benches were covered with rain so it was us and a couple of people ordering their meals to go. The firepit was going which was nice as we waited. The only other truck that was open was the burrito truck and no one was going over there. I feel like if we came on another night it would be a better experience but because it was cold and rainy, I can only judge on the food and since my dish was great and Sis' was mediocre, I'm splitting it down the middle. The owner was very kind and didn't charge me for the sauce due to me being a first time visitor. He also advised that there were a lot of fried chicken delivery orders at the time of my purchase so the strips would be the quicker option. I appreciate when I am given realistic expectations on when the food will be ready. My chicken was very good. I liked the level of spice that I had. It was not too intense. It was just right for me. The crinkle cut fries are a nice touch as well. + Sweet Garlic Korean Fried Chicken (Pickled Radish, Coleslaw, Rice) ($13.5) - Nice and saucy! They put the chicken over the rice so the rice gets to absorb the sauce for each bite. The chicken was cooked well and the sauce was tasty. It does get a little soggy so I would definitely recommend eating ASAP if you like your chicken crunchy as possible. The absolute worst "fried" chicken I have ever head. I asked the cashier/cook if I could have thighs, he said it's all thighs!!! WTH??? It is dried, overly breaded white meat. I feel very confident that it is FSA frozen boneless chicken strips. Dry as an Arizona desert in August. The "mashed?" Potatoes were crunchy and had some weird bitter ingredient. The halt & half wings were ALL the same... overly sugared and bland, with stale sesame seeds sprinkled on them. The only thing nice here was the fire pit. Portland has become a joke of truly good food. So sad. It has a nice crunch to it, bun was soft, and the rest of the toppings made it feel complete. And at 9$ , I think it's priced competitively compared to other fried chicken sandwiches I've had in Portland. The fried chicken half spicy and half sweet was definitely good, but the spicy and sweet hardly taste any different to me. First, a shout out to this food cart pod: there's not one weak link choice, the seating is great, and the hand washing station is a big plus. A 3-Star to me is not negative, per Yelp it's "A-OK" meaning I'll probably return. That said, I found their marquee item - the Spicy Korean Fried Chicken - satisfying, but a far second from my favorites: Basilisk and Phat Cart. I realize they're different styles. The taste here reminded me of Panda Express (and I like this chain), but with heat. The winner of my $10 lunch box were the fried pickles, I'm definitely ordering a side of it next time. And I look forward to trying the gluten-free chicken. One pet peeve: I'm not a fan of the boxes they use. You need to tear off the sides or your hand keeps braising them which is mildly irritating. I was in Portland for about 24 hours so I could only eat at a couple of places because as much as I love food, there's only so much I could eat. I asked some locals as well as doing my own Google research for a fried chicken place to go to, and FOMO chicken was mentioned the most so FOMO chicken was my pick! And after about two miles of going and stopping and probably breaking the law for scooting on the sidewalk (hey, I didn't know you weren't allowed to do that at the time), I was finally there at the food truck park where FOMO is located along with several other food trucks serving various types of dishes and beverages. Being a food truck, I was expecting a line because that's just how it is in Houston where I'm from, but this wasn't the case. There was no line and I was able to place my order immediately. At first, contemplating about getting the Spicy Korean Fried Chicken or the Sweet Soy Garlic Fried Chicken, but I decided to get the old school Gluten Free Southern Fried Chicken. After placing my order, I found a place to sit in the sitting are shared by all the food trucks in the park and waited a bit. It was probably about ten minutes until my order was ready and my name was called. I went to pick up my box that's filled with boneless fried chicken, potatoes, corn, and slaw. At first, I told myself that I wasn't going to eat all the potatoes because, carbs, you know? But after my first bite into the potatoes, I was like Keanue: "Whoa". They were really good - perfectly seasoned, full of flavor, and just delicious. The fried chicken pieces, which is the main thing I wanted, did not disappoint either. They were tender and juicy; and they were perfect to be chowed down with the potatoes, the corn, and the slaw. And oh yeah, let's talk about the slaw - not runny, not too much mayo. Just right. The only thing that was only okay? The corn. And I love corn - they need to have some creamed corn or grilled corn option here. If I ever made my way back to Portland, I wouldn't hesitate to come back here to try the Sweet Soy Garlic Fried Chicken and the Spicy Korean Fried Chicken. I really liked texture of the fry and chicken--the outside had that satisfying crispiness, mixed in with the coating of glaze as you bite into it and the chicken was nice and juicy, cooked perfectly. They were both delicious! My fav was the Sweet Soy Chicken! While I loved the spice & heat in the Spicy Chicken, I felt like I was looking for another flavor element to bring it to that next level. The Sweet Soy Chicken had a great balance of savory and sweet that I really enjoyed and made me keep going back for more. I requested a Southern combo that would've included mashed potatoes, corn and cole slaw for $15, but the attendant said they were out of mashed and recommended the strips n fries since "it's the same batter" -- except that plus a side was $16. OK, I went with it. This was the driest, saltiest, most overcooked tiny pieces of chicken I've ever had. Fried were soggy but tasty, cole slaw reasonable but nothing made it feel homemade or stand out from regular supermarket cole slaw. Like a previous reviewer wrote, the Portland food scene appears to be all about hype and it doesn't often match the hype with quality and presentation. If you're looking for that authentic, double-fried, candied coating of sauce, unfortunately it's not here.
