My husband and I found this place by accident, decided to try it and we fell in love. That was seven years ago and we still love the food. We take people from out of state there and everyone is more than happy with the food. My brother visits once a year and we have to eat here every time. It is a little on the high end but no higher than say Outback or Logan's. This is different, the food is amazing, we have never been disappointed. The people here are very nice and friendly. The service is always great and accommodating. There have been a night or two where things were slow, but the wait is well worth it. Most nights the service is great. If you are anywhere near Walling, TN, you have to check it out. The atmosphere and the setting is very nice. You can sit out on the deck which overlooks the river. They have a nice selection of beers, including Calfkiller from right here in Sparta. You will have to bring your own wine or bottle if that is what you want. They will supply the glasses. Can't say enough about this place. I don't get the people who write the bad reviews, some people just are that way. We haven't taken anyone there who didn't love it and we have taken a lot of people there. Thank you to all the staff at Foglights for such wonderful experiences. This was a hidden treasure in a wonderful, secluded area. After reading previous reviews, we learned that diners are allowed to bring their own alcohol or wine (but not beer) we also learned that the service was slow, so we went in with that expectation. We were extremely pleased with the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant. Everyone's food arrived at the same time and was hot and delicious. It was so fantastic that our friends returned the very next night to try other dishes. When you go, don't be in a hurry. Enjoy the quirky decor and the delightful music. Pretty good food for the middle of nowhere. Just about one of the only good places to go eat if you are in or around Rock Island State Park. They have a nice overlook of the river and train tracks. Local Calfkiller beer is really good. Service was good and staff were knowledgeable. The chef has tried some variations of butter and other menu items that were not a hit. They have a nice bar area and outdoor firepit for hanging out. Would definitely go back. read more

Do not waste your time or money on this stop. Wish I would have eaten anywhere but here. The good- beautiful scenery The bad- pricing...$15 and up for mediocre "Cajun" food. Was charged for food I did not receive because I opted out for the vegetable of the day: 'creamy carrots' aka carrot sticks boiled with some milk served cold. Also, cats were everywhere. They begged at your feet while you were eating. The ugly- waiting and service...waited 1 hour for table and yet another hour for food (that was cold). Terrible service as well. Had to ask for everything, and that was only when you could catch him. I wish this place lived up to its hype. read more

This place is probably what most people consider a hole in the wall. It's very near Rock Island State Park but I believe the restaurant is technically in Walling, TN. No matter the address, this spot is quality. The views from the deck, the service, the food. They were great. I had a very hard time choosing which entree to order because I was stuck between four dishes that all sounded phenomenal. To compromise, a friend and I ordered two of the four and shared. I ordered the Salmon Savannah and she got the Blacked Chicken and Crawfish Alfredo. The salmon was cooked to perfection, seasoned with brown sugar and creole seasoning, and topped with a glorious glaze. The creamy herbed grits that came as the side were good enough to make you smack your momma. The pasta was very tasty and the crawfish bites in the mix were delectable. The prices are a bit on the high side (you're looking at $10-$24 depending on what mood you're in). It's worth a visit to the country to stop by. read more

My date and I were extremely happy we made a last minute decision to stop in Foglight Foodhouse on our last evening in Rock Island State Park. We started with a side salad, which we assumed would be ice-burg lettuce with a few bland veggies. What we got instead was an organic combination of dark leafy greens and fresh vegetables with homemade dressings that was delicious. We then had the stuff mushroom caps. We gave them an A+. For our entree we split the Cajun Sampler. The Red Beans and Rice was our favorite part, but everything was delicious. If we ever find ourselves back in that part of the country, we'll be back. read more

Outstanding food. Long wait for table and for food after ordering, but we had a group 7 and weren't in a hurry. Sat on the back porch in July and enjoyed the lights and music at the boat dock across the water. Not a problem for us, but be aware there is not a full bar, just beer, hard cider, etc. read more

This place is amazing! If you have to drive a hundred miles to get there, do it! Second time we have been, we don't live close. Both times it has been incredible! I can't believe anyone could give it less than 5 stars! Food is fantastic, service is pleasant and caring. It may take awhile to get your good, but it's not a fast food joint. Good food. Nice view over the Carney Fork River. Good beers. Friendly staff. Over a 1 hour wait. Entrees range $20 + . Quantity of food is not large for the price. If you are somewhat hungry, there will be no left-overs. Seating is open, no intimate setting. read more

For a change of pace, great food, great service and a great atmosphere, you have to try the Foglight Foodhouse. One of my favorite places to splurge for a good meal. The Cajun sampler with blackened catfish is my favorite, but it's all good. read more

Very good! The blackened Ribeye is great as is the garlic mashed potatoes and baby asparagus. They also have some of the best catfish I have ever had and if you get a chance to try the Jack Daniels Bread pudding it is to die for! read more

What this restaurant has going for it is the food. Have absolutely loved every single dish I've ordered there. Waitress and people are pleasant, too. No complaint there. Wait time, however, both for a table and the food, was terrible. Waiting room seats: hard. Waiting room itself (July), hot. Seats at the table get uncomfortable after an hour with no food. Arrived at 5:30 pm, waited 40 minutes for a table (not that long of a line ... had to do with time people got food inside, got food at 7:30 pm, left at 8:00 ish. Luckily the company made it worth the wait. Next time I'll decline for a more responsible food response time. read more

I had "date night here" this past weekend, what a great little place, comfy, cozy, you can take your own bottle of wine, (one reason alone to go) the food was fantastic, we had the mushroom appetizer, it was freaking delicious, not to mention you get these little pieces of toasted bread to soak up the leftover sauce with, YUM, we both had pasta, I had the shrimp & crawfish pasta & loved it, he had the River Jack pasta & it was just as delicious. We were visiting the area from Philly. My wife and I are vegetarians. The chef said he would like to surprise us with a Veg dish. He made a rice dish ( with cranberries , potato and other veggies). The dish was delicious and wonderfully made. The place is really beautiful and the staff was great. There was something magical about the place that evening. Will remember the place for a long time. I wish I could comment on the food at this restaurant, but unfortunately my review can only address the service. My wife and I has looked forward to a meal here after a visit to Rock Island State Park. We arrived early by our standards, at 5:30.on a Saturday night, and we're told to expect a 35 minute wait, which was unusually long for this place. The menu looked quite good and we sat and decided what we would order. After an hour wait, I asked where we placed in the queue, and we still had 3 groups ahead of us. Sine they had only seated 3 groups during the hour we waited, we decided to move on and have dinner elsewhere, even though the choices in the area are quite slim. The cause of the long wait was that the restaurant was serving a large wedding party, who took up the majority of the tables in the restaurant. The party had been there 2.5 hours already, and we're still going strong. My advice, since this place is a long way off the beaten path, is to call in advance before you make the inevitable long drive. If the restaurant is hosting a large party, plan to go elsewhere. read more

Nice setting. I don't like how the lettuce is cut, it shouldn't be cut in the first place. Other salad items are cut too small. Catfish was mushy and tasteless. Crapcakes were too bready and mushy, not enough flavor, could not taste the crab. Very much just diner type food. Not worth the price at all. Will not go back. read more

We have tried the Foglight Foodhouse several times. The food has always been mediocre but we liked the atmosphere in the summer, so we tried it again tonight. There were 8 of us and I called ahead to see if they would take reservations. They said they didn't but if we were there at 5:00 there wouldn't be a problem. We got there at 5:00 and didn't get seated until 5:30. I asked the hostess (after we waited about 20 minutes) if they had other large tables and was told, "you will be seated - don't worry about it." I shrugged that off and we were seated a while later. Waited a long time for our food. The waitress was fine. She kept our glasses filled and was attentive. My daughter and I both got swordfish. Mine was ok but hers was real rubbery - more like calamari. She ate part of it and sent it back. Another in our group got a smoked or bar b q chicken. It had such an overwhelming smoke flavor that he took two bites and sent it back. They were not offered a replacement. Two in the group got cajun food - it had a really weird sweet flavor but they did eat most of it. When our checks came they had charged half price for the swordfish and for the smoked chicken. Our daughter asked to see the manager and was (not very nicely) told that they had eaten half of it so they would only cut the cost by half. Not wanting to make a scene, the food was paid for and we left after almost 2 1/2 hours with a very bad taste (pun intended) in our mouths. The prices seemed also seemed to be really high. read more

Giving this two stars only because I've been here many times and the food is amazing but tried to go last Saturday and waited over 2 hours to be seated! We were told it was a 45 minute wait and could swallow that, but as the night crept along it appeared they had no intention of seating us. We were a party of 6 so nothing insurmountable or something that pushing two four tops together wouldn't solve. We were never sat and starving, so we decided to leave at 9pm. The staff we spoke with were friendly and apologetic but in complete disarray. No one there was actually managing the front of the house. This is unacceptable and it's a shame to lose out on the sales from a 6 top. It's a shame I'll have to tell anyone interested in this place to not risk losing their entire evening because of mismanagement of seating guests. I've been a customer since before it was even in the new digs. Such a shame. read more
