Every time I have come here, I have had a great experience. The seafood bisque is delicious. The ribeye is amazing. I also sometimes get the shrimp and grits but after having the ribeye, I don't see how I am going to go back. The mushrooms are also very tasty. Rich, so better to share. We go here for special occasions because we spend a lot when we do, but I always look forward to it and think about this restaurant. Always worth the hour drive. read more

We did have a bit of a wait, but we took some drinks outside under a cozy pavilion and talked of our day exploring the park. We were seated outside for our dining experience. Such a fun server who was very attentive to our groups' needs. Everyone got such tasty looking dishes, we just wanted to get a bite of each! My meal was a cup of their smooth crawfish bisque. Yum! It has been a minute since we were last here - 4-5 years! I have no idea why we took so long to come back. As I noted on Facebook that evening, an hour drive, but worth every minute of the pleasant drive in the country. It is very unpretentious from the outside, but clean and neat and welcoming inside. We had arrived shortly after they opened (4:00 CST) on a Wednesday night. The hostess found us rather quickly and there were still plenty of tables both inside and out on the deck. We chose to sit indoors, overlooking the deck and the mostly hidden river. We did not choose to bring our own wine and settled on the iced tea. But the food, we shared an appetizer of mushrooms. Then my wife had "Cowboy Lollipops" - smoked bone-in pork shank, well seasoned and cooked to perfection. I had the ribeye, blackened and smothered with etouffee. We each chose to pass on the mixed vegetables and went with perfectly cooked asparagus. I had very nice rice while my wife had mashed potatoes. Everything was excellent and neither of us had any room left for deserts. We will be back very soon. read more

They open for lunch from 1200-200pm. My bestie and I split the soft pretzel and it was the most perfect t soft pretzel ever. She had the shrimp touffee and I had the catfish was the exactly what southern touffee and catfish should be. The limoncello cake was light and perfect for a hot summer day. What a fun night! Awesome dinner.....started with the stuffed mushrooms, wonderful! Our three entrees were, shrimp & grits ( our New Orleans neighbor) would have liked more spice but the shrimp was cooked to perfection, hubby had the jambalaya ( also needed spice and the chicken really wasn't blackened) but very good and I had the pork Lafayette which was perfect with enough leftover for two more meals. If you're watching carbs, the pork is heavily breaded served with rice but I wasn't concerned ( we all need a cheat day)! Hannah Grace was outstanding, caring for our every need, and making us feel special. The atmosphere is so fun and welcoming. Definitely worth the drive. Road Trip Today , my husband had watched a segment of Tennessee Crossroads spotlighting the Foglight Foodhouse . We invited another couple and took off for the day . We are always out for an adventure and this one was well worth the Drive from Nashville . Upon arriving there was is a quant building overlooking the Caney Fork river . The ambiance was welcoming , the host was very friendly and welcoming . The serve was very friendly and helpful with suggestions . Our party of four all ordered different entrees . Each one was unique , one had the blackened Catfish which was very tasty and cooked to perfection . One had the sampler which was very good , one had salmon cooked to perfection . We've been eyeing the Foglight and finally went last night. Overall, it wasn't bad. We had the crab cakes and stuffed mushrooms as appetizers. We enjoyed the mushrooms. The crabcakes were more like crab patties but tasted ok. I wouldn't recommend the y Jambalaya. It looked more like a green vegetable soup than a meaty, rice Jambalaya. The alfedo pasta and catfish were good. I would eat here again, but I do feel like the prices are slightly high for what you get. read more

This restaurant has lots of atmosphere and character. There is a fire with chairs around it sitting to the right of the building right before you enter the restaurant. The view is on the lake and looks out at a marina. The stuffed mushrooms are some of the best I have ever eaten. The creole crawfish bisque is so delicious I had two bowls! The shrimp and grits are good, it was my least favorite of everything I ate. You can bring your own alcohol!! I would give it 5 stars if the service had been better, it wasn't really bad just slow. I'll admit this place is a drive from Chattanooga, but it's this perfect spot if you're looking for a good road trip on the weekend! While it takes about an hour to get to from Chattanooga, the drive is very scenic and the view once you get to the restaurant makes it all worth it! This might be one of the coziest restaurants I've ever been to. It's in the middle of nowhere on a river, but when you drive up you immediately feel welcome. The decor is funky and homey and the staff is extremely welcoming and attentive! To start off, we ordered the Carolina Caviar (pimento cheese topped with tomato jam and goat cheese served with naan) and this truly might be one of my favorite appetizers ever! For dinner we got the blackened shrimp Alfredo, pecan crusted catfish and the swamp cakes (crab cakes over grits topped with etouffe). I'm not kidding when I say this is one of my favorite meals in a long time. I do suggest that if you don't want to wait, to try and get here on the earlier side as this is a very popular spot. All in all, I highly recommend making the drive to check this place out, you won't be disappointed! read more

Hours are a bit inconvenient as it is only open three hours a day, which can leave for a long wait time since it is walk-in appointments. They have a nice rustic theme and offer outdoor dinning. The food itself is great! Most menu items are Cajun/southern. I would recommend if you are in the area, but would not recommend driving far since this is a remote area. read more

This quaint little place was truly in the middle of nowhere in the woods, and my husband and I loved it! The views by the river are so pretty. It reminds me of the vibe of a Wisconsin supper club, but with Cajun and creole food! We ordered beers and an appetizer, and sat outside while we waited for our table. I finally made it to Foglight after 2 years of stalking this place. This is such a unique and serene spot out in the "country". Pulling up, Foglight resembles a well maintained juke joint or an old inn where travelers would stop for the evening. The inside is just as unique with colanders as light fixtures and the walls and the ceiling decorated with old signs and burlap sacks. The staff was very friendly and patient while we took our time taking in the space and scouring their menu. The offer Calfkiller Beer (local brewery) and if you are not from these parts, please try it--you may not get another chance and you will not be sorry. Everything was really good and well prepared. The ribeye was very flavorful and cooked perfectly medium. The fried oysters and mushroom appetizers are really good. The toothpicks (fried onions and peppers) were amazing; great flavor that really surprised us. The crab cakes were deliciously FULL of crab and fried perfectly. The jambalaya had a great flavor that didn't try to be too Cajun or imitation Cajun. The menu is full of options, but not cluttered, which makes it easy to still produce quality dishes and giving their customers plenty of options. Foglight is well worth the drive if you are in the surrounding area. The view from the porch of the Caney Fork is breath taking. read more

From the moment we got their we couldn't help but notice that it was very empty, no line like normal (it used to be quite busy). Not sure what happened to the Foglight; but they obviously replaced either a chef or the entire kitchen. This used to be one of my husbands and my favorite restaurant. We went here again on March 7th 2024 and I don't know if we will go back (even if they comp'd our next meal or it was free). The quality of the food was very poor with the exception of the Crawdad bisque, the pretzel appetizer and the desert. I got the ribeye charbroiled with blue cheese. The ribeye was cold like it had come out of the fridge or been sitting out for a very long time. The blue cheese was like a watery thin sauce on top that was cold as well. The veg were what I would expect from a middle school cafeteria (prior to this, they were a real treat). My husband got 2 appetizers as a meal and picked at both. We ordered some to-go food for a family member and it was too salty for him to eat. So $150.00+ later we pretty certain we will never go back. It is really sad to because we used to love going here...but for that kind of money it should have been delicious and literally everyone found it almost inedible. I hope they figure it out because it would be a real shame if they went out of business...but regardless, we will not be going back. Too many really excellent places in town or in Nashville/Knoxville to spend that kind of money for a date night. read more

I bring my own wine and love that I can. They have a glass fee which is fair. Our server tonight was Lauren. She was an excellent server and so lovely. They are short staffed like every place. These employees work their tails off to get everyone served as quickly as possible. We enjoyed the dinner salad, the bisque, the coconut shrimp and the pecan crusted catfish. Amazing little gem overlooking the Caney Fork river, tucked away in the woods. The menu features Cajun delicacies, gourmet burgers and the most delicious soup you'll ever experience! It is packed on the weekend, especially in summer, but you can wait at the fire pit for your table to be ready. Beer is served or you can bring your favorite bottle of wine and pay a small uncorking fee. The pace of the wait is perfect, not too fast and not too slow. It's relaxing, rustic and very unexpected. I am traveling in the area on business and happened to find the Foglight Foodhouse online. Let me start by saying if you are looking for fast food you should go to McDonalds. I arrived at 5:45 and was told that it would be a 45minute wait, I was finally seated at 7:00. I was not concerned about the long wait because good food is worth waiting for and I assumed it must be good because of the amount of people that were continually arriving. The atmosphere is so relaxing with the ambient lighting and beautiful views of the water. When the hostess directed me to my seat she was very apologetic about the long wait. Once I was seated my server, Kristen, arrived promptly and she could not have been more friendly. She immediately got my sweet tea and put in my food order. I am always hesitant to order sweet tea in new places because not everyone knows how to make good tea but it was perfect. I ordered the Low Country Crab cake appetizer. The crab cakes were delicious. They were sweet and plump, full of crab meat and just the right amount of binder so that it do not cover up the crab meat flavor, perfectly crispy exterior with a light fluffy interior. I have eaten crab cakes on the coast, in the Low Country and in many different locations and I don't know that these could be beat. They did not have the overbearing fishy flavor that crab cakes sometimes have. After finishing my crab cakes I had just a few minute wait for my entree. I had a hard time deciding what to order because everything on the menu sounded great. I opted for the Rock Island Ribeye cooked medium well with the Cajun blackening and paired it with asparagus and mashed potatoes. I know that medium well is not the optimal level of cooking on a steak but it is my preference. Many places are not able to cook a steak to medium well. Often times my steak comes out still very pink or burnt but very rarely is it perfect. This steak was perfect. It was an excellent cut of meat because even cooked medium well it was still very tender and juicy. The chef had just the perfect amount of blackening seasoning, it was just enough for a perfect flavor but not overpowering. The asparagus were seasoned well and cooked al dente. The mashed potatoes were not your typical resturaunt boxed potatoes. They were cut up peel on red potatoes. They were what I call chunk potatoes. They had the best flavor and excellent consistency. I can quite possibly say that the steak was the best ribeye I have ever eaten. The fat, what little there was, was cooked perfectly to a caramelized flavor. All in all I give this resturaunt a 10 out of 10. It is not something that you will just pass by and stop in. It is a hidden gem off of the back roads. It is definitely worth the detour if you are anywhere in the area. However, come in with patience because there may be a wait but the food is well worth it. I am not in this area often but if I ever pass back through I will definitely stop in. The owner should be proud to have the staff that he does. I only had contact with my server Kristen and the hostess whose name I didn't not catch. They both acted as if they loved their job and were happy to be there. They made the place feel very inviting and homey. It is miserable to go to a resturaunt where the employees seem like they don't want to be at work and it is a breath of fresh air to go in somewhere and feel the family like atmosphere of employees who enjoy their jobs and working with one another. We drove almost an hour to Foglight Foodhouse on the recommendation of a good friend. My parents were with me and I was excited for some Cajun food. I wish I could say it was worth the trip. My Dads Catfish was bland and he described it as "slimy ", my Moms Chicken Alfredo was good she said but not great, and I ordered crab cakes that came covered in cold sauce that made them cold, wet and gummy. None of us finished our meals and we left and got burgers at Hwy 55 on the way home. The food was not inexpensive and the flavors just weren't there. Pretty location, but we won't be going back :( read more
