Hot tub

2/5 STARS ~ upon entry to the front office, I was greeted with a person speaking abruptly and unkind voice. I told the person that I was here to check in to our room. He told me I cannot check in until 3 pm, and it was 2:45 pm. We left and came back. The next person at 4 pm on Saturday, July 4th, told us we could have our room cleaned and when we would like to schedule the room cleaning for Sunday. I told the person at 1 pm. When we came back after being away for the day, our place was not cleaned! I went to the front office and asked to have our place cleaned. The person at the desk, at the time 2:30 pm, told me we did not request the room cleaned because we were not on the hand written lined paper list. I told him that was not true as the person grabbed the paper when we checked in and wrote our room and time to be cleaned. The pool, not working and empty. The hot tub had too much chemicals and my skin itched like crazy. I stayed here many years ago and was always greeted with a friendly voice and granted early and late access even when I would pay. I will never stay here again. Maybe the people are not gay friendly... not sure. Bye, bye! Next....

Dust caked into window screen... no air circulation

Besides it being close to the beach...STAY AWAY!!! Room is hot and stuffy. There is no AC. You must leave the windows open but if you close the blinds, you get no ventilation as the curtains have a cover blocking the air circulation. Also the dust caked on the window screen wouldn't allow it either way. In order to get any air circulation your have to leave the curtain up allowing anyone to look into your room...DANGEROUS AND CREEPY!!Customer service is almost non-existent... I went 3 times and each time they had a note stating they would be back. Phones don't work so calling isn't an option and WIFI barely works. For as much as they charge a night, i would at least expect a fan and a working refrigerator. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY AWAY!!!!

It's a ocean front Inn on the edge of moonstone beach . Has a nice fire pit right out front to watch the sunset . The rooms it self are older but token care of . Still a cozy feeling .

Always stay here whenever we visit the captivating town of Cambria because we like the fact that this hotel is only steps away from the beach and located near to 2 of our favorite restaurants (walking distance) : 1. Sea Chest and 2. Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill. Staff are always helpful and friendly. Room is not big but feels comfortable and clean. Hotel has an outdoor pool (last time we went in September 2025, the pool was under construction). Parking is free. Room has a fireplace, a table by the window with 2 chairs, a work station, tv, coffee machine, refrigerator, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, & lotion. They used to serve breakfast but now has partnered up with the restaurant Cow Tipper about 0.5 mile up the road. So you can scan the barcode inside your room to order your breakfast for delivery or pick up. Or do what we do, we go directly to Cow Tipper.

Microwave/coffee area

For almost $300 a night, you could do better. This room was overpriced, not too clean, and so outdated. Don't take the bottled water sitting on the table, they'll charge you $10. Also quite an inconvenient walk to get ice. I won't do this again. Almost forgot, windows are from the 80s, top panel will not lock into place. Also old shades that you have to secure with the cord and a hook on the wall. Don't expect hot water either, luke warm at best.

This inn was cute as it reminded me of a little cottage. It is located right across the ocean. The setup was very similar to the other inn we stayed at when we were at Pismo Beach as they were part of the same hotel group. This inn does need a little bit of an update. The lamp handle on the desk was broken and couldn't turn on. But they were able to replace it with a new one. There is a small fridge and microwave inside. The water in the tub took a long while to drain. I think the tub and the pocket door needs an update. Otherwise everything else was okay. Parking was right in front of our room and there were some tables and a fire pit in the middle of the property. There is only one person at the front desk and they usually take a lunch break. If you walk right across the street, there is a boardwalk where you can walk along the ocean. Great location! Cell phone Reception is horrible there.

This chair looks like something you'll find for free, left on the road side somewhere not at a $400/a night room.

Love that it's one story. Inside coffee, and mornings specialty coffee and food to order . You do though get a free basket every morning with fresh orange juice and pastries with fruit and cheese. You had to go channel by channel and hope to find it out of many channels. By the way, the remote they gave You wasn't a Spectrum remote? We even went to the office for help. They couldn't make it work. I wasn't here to watch TV of course but When it's dark, breezy and in the 50ies outside a nice sitcom before bed is sometimes nice. 3. This morning we went to get a cup of coffee at 8:05am. Coffee is supposed to be available @ 7am. Not open. 5 other guests were waiting patiently. Could we ask the office? No it wasn't open either. It finally opened at 8:10am. 4. Oh by the way, bring your sunglasses for Your room. The only lighting is spot lights in the ceiling. Nothing you can control from bed side. Were there any dimmers to adjust the lighting down from solar flare to reasonable. Nope. Just the palm of my hand or sunglasses. Again By the way, the Cambria area is awesome with some great wholesome dining experiences. Linn's and Robin's. Wow! We've stayed along Moonstone over the years. Just never @ the Cambria Shores Inn. Guess what? Never again because there are lots of choices along Moonstone. I'd like to rate it a 1 star. But, Mother Nature helped take the feeling of total disappointment away. Every time We strolled down the Moonstone board walk across the street it melted Our disappointment away. For a while. What a beautiful Ocean front.

Staff is friendly. It is a dog friendly property, so if you're allergic ask about that. Honestly, I rarely leave reviews for hotels before checking out but I doubt they'll save this. A…read morewide array of things went sideways in this case. 1. I called to advise the hotel prior to my stay that I was indeed bringing my dog. I had booked via third party and wanted to make sure they had note of this. When I finally got through the man who I spoke to was very snippy - advised of 35 daily pet fee, etc. no problem on my end. He sounded very put out. 2. Next came check-in. I had been wanting to try the Sea Chest restaurant. The front desk didn't immediately acknowledge me so I patiently waited. Then I made my presence known. I asked about the restaurant and any tips for getting in. She looked at me like I was an alien. Told me she doesn't eat seafood, never ate there. Told me she heard the wait times here huge and 'good luck'. I literally felt like I was inconveniencing her...they took a deposit and I advised them I had extended my reservation by one day but it created two reservations for whatever reason. She told me I'd have to check out and then check in when the time came. 3. When I had called them about this before check-in they transferred me to reservations and told me they'd match the price of the third party and give me free breakfast. I wasn't too interested but spoke to reservations. She advised me that I'd have to cancel my reservation and then she'd rebook. My reservation was already paid for so that didn't make any sense. She couldn't find my reservation and then told me I was booked in a completely different room! I kept my reservation via third party and then required an alcoholic drink from the stress!!! 4. Power outage from storm halfway in. On Wednesday there was a storm and it knocked the power out around 4.13pm. I went to the office and was told there's nothing to do and they have no eta for power getting back on. They gave me glow sticks and told me to get ice from bartender for my dog's food. She gets food from just food for dogs. Ummm...wth?? They were also advising people that restaurant onsite can only take them w reservations..what about the rest of us??? I told them I had reservations at Robin's and if they heard that power was out in town??? Three-four people at front desk did NOT give a damn...in other words, not one employee cared. Most of the people I saw at lodge were easily over 70 and they were anxious with this power outage and not one employee behind that desk acted like they cared. I drove to Robins and they had an emergency generator, honored my reservation and accommodated anyone and everyone that walked in. The only place in town w power, btw. When I checked the power outage service online, no power outage was reported for the lodge!!! I reported it. It was back on in 2 hours. 5. 25 acres. I saw lovely pics of a huge forest like property and instead of staying at my usual places across the water, stayed here. I couldn't find the trails, gardens. When I finally asked about them? The front desk person looked at me like I had 3 heads! She proceeded to take out a map and draw lines w a highlighter. She said whatever expanse there is, is dedicated to the Xmas festival and closed off. I finally found the paths on the own. Def not 25 acres. Is the property large? Yes, but you venture sideways and you hit residential streets and venture behind and you have forest. 6. Stairs to town. Look old and they are narrow. I made it halfway down and got my car. 7. They very much wanted you to make reservations in the restaurant. Isn't the whole point to use the amenities without reservations? Ie I'm staying there and want to drop in?8.Live music gets loud and people like their drinks - a lot. No judgement but if you're by the restaurant be prepared. 9.Dog Park? Nope. It was moved behind some cabins and filled with wood chips. An employee asked me my thoughts and I said fake grass better bc dogs can eat the chips, damage their paws, etc. She said fake grass bad for the environment. Ok...then why ask? ‍ 10. I asked if they would do something ie credit bc of the power outage. Front desk person looked at me like I was INSANE. Told me it's out of their control and sorry my dog's food may have gotten ruined. 11.Texted them about ac - they said NO ac but can give me fan?!? Sign in room says otherwise. 12.Enclosed patio - nice until a possum scared myself and my dog one night. No lights out there, so we didn't sit out in the dark after that. Plus fence not high enough and people walking by looking into my room. 13.Yes, loud and extensive construction for Xmas market - sucked. 14.Double deposit? YES. They charged me and didn't release over 200 for my first checkin, then almost 140 for my second checkin. Hopefully they remember to remove that when I check out. 15.Other services? Yes, massage with Emily and reservations for dinner tonight (crossing my fingers...). 16. Crazy price for coffee. I texted asking if there's espresso? REST OF REVIEW IN PICS
