Terrible communication when it comes to billing people. I've had contacts for the last 20yrs of my life, I've always gone in for an annual checkup every year so I can get contact lenses and my insurance always covers the visit. I ended up getting a bill in the mail weeks after my visit because I am a diabetic. I've never heard of such a thing. An extra $73! This is my second year with focused eye care and the first visit I never got that bill. I called and they said they had to charge me extra because it's "medical" and they waved the first year for me. I have literally never heard of that ever. They did literally nothing, it was a regular checkup. It's not like they did anything special because I'm a diabetic. So, don't go here if you are a diabetic, they'll charge you. Or atleast don't tell them ANY of your medical background when they ask because they'll hold it against you. So bizarre. My husband made an appointment for his annual checkup at this place before I got this bill in the mail...I made him cancel and go somewhere else. Terrible! read more

Be very careful with this group. Once upon a time they placed a priority on quality patient care, but now the focus is simply revenue. They will manufacture reasons and excuses to bill your Medical Insurance provider rather than your Vision Insurance provider. If I'm being billed a Medical fee, then I had better be treated by an Ophthalmologist rather than merely an Optometrist. Most disconcerting is the fact that when I consulted with an MD concerning the diagnosis made by Focused Eye Care, I was informed that I did NOT have that condition, nor any condition which would warrant billing a Medical fee instead of a Vision fee. read more

I have been a patient here since 2017 and I have had nothing but the best of care and service. Everyone is always upbeat and friendly. Went through construction with them and everyone was great with providing directions. Had to get my glasses fixed a couple of months ago and walked into a beautiful new facility with fantastic lighting and displays. They have always worked with me for appointments and I have never felt rushed. They are top notch and have very high standards. read more

Take a look at all the bad reviews before coming here. Safe to say my family will no longer be a clients here. First thing that happens is I got confused because they totally redesigned there office and I got confused where to go because I thought I was in the wrong place so I walked out around and then back in because I was unsure. Then as is I walk in the door and my daughter starts coughing. Everyone is staring at me and I'm feeling so embarrassed. She is getting over a sinus infection. What can I do? Then I was also late. People have unforeseen occurrences, and the fact that I was in the office at 10:10 and it took them 4 mins yo great and talk to me. The appointment is for 3 year old and they marked me no show. Do you think having a 3 year old is easy to always get ready and be exactly on time. So many places have a grace period of 15 mins. You couldn't make this work? Really? I hope all the ladies at the front desk receive the same experience you showed me. This is sad to see how this place is now. This was the first eye doctor I went to as a little girl. The eye doctor I got my first pair glasses. And I came back here after living away for years. Pity. read more

I was a patient of Prevost/Helfman/Lasky from 1980 onward. When the practice was sold in 2018 and Dr Lasky left in 2019 it went to hell. The last straw was in 2021 when I went in for an exam and after 15 minutes of standing in front of her desk, the clerk told me my Tufts Medicare was not accepted. I took the paperwork for records transfer and left. Upon some investigation is turned out that Focused Eye Care had not corrected the records with the insurer (which still listed Helfman et al). Just incompetent. FWIW, I gave up on Dr MacDonald a decade or more ago when she was unable to, after three tries, prescribe new contacts for me that would fit comfortably. read more

I have decent vision insurance but still piad close to $400 UP FRONT (no 50% down 50% upon receipt) for a new pair of glasses and its been 3 weeks with STILL no glasses. Could've bought them on line for 1/2 the price and 1/4 time. Much, much better when Dr. Helfman & Lasky were there. Response to Response: "not gone well" ? Ok, that's one way to spin it. I have been going here since early/mid 90s for contacts, glasses, exams, etc...as does my wife and daughters. That ends today. Have already requested transfer of records to new optometrist from your office. Is there a charge for that? The mark up you put on your frames is unfair. I also specifically asked when I picked the frames if the manufacturer had other styles for the sizes I needed. Was told "no just what we have here in the showroom" Not sure you are aware but Google (or Bing, DuckDuck Go, etc...) is a thing that allows you to research things. So the next day I was disappointed to look at other styles in my sizes AND prices that were much less. I remember when Dr. Lasky and Helfman were there they had catalogs and later websites that you could look at and pick out frames that fit that were not in the showroom. Why is that not possible anymore? I don't even like the $600 glasses I bought but I need new glasses and I had about 6 frames to choose from that were not from 1989. Also after 10 days of waiting I was told I would get text updates...I got none until today. I was told numerous times that the delay was caused by the "coating". More specific the AR coating. Part of my job sometimes requires me to order structural steel with a galvanized coating. Similar process...a product is dipped in a coating then pulled out and allowed to dry. I can get 20 tons of galvanized structural steel in 5 days but I can't get glasses dipped in some overpriced coating for 3 weeks!?!? Sounds a lot like the undercarriage coating from the Fargo movie. Again Google is a thing in 2020. Trying to tell a patient/CUSTOMER that a process is so complex and requires these elaborate scenarios doesn't work. Just be honest; "we screwed up by not doing____________ or our rep screwed up by _________ or our manufacturer screwed up because_________________. " Much better than the AR coating story I was told 5 times. You wanted the whole story...I was told by a member of your staff that you can't get the almighty AR coating when ordering glasses on line . I hate saying this again but Google is a thing in 2020 and YES you can get AR coating on glasses you purchase on line. Finally was able to pick up glasses after 3 weeks. Hooray. For all the grief I was offered.... wait for it.... wait for it....partial refund?, Nope!.... Gift Card for future services or products? Nope!....a Dunkin Donuts gift card! They had me back at the first glimpse of that orange & white card,...uummmm, NOPE THANK YOU. Keep your $5 dollar gift card and save it for the next guy/gal that goes through what I did. Maybe you can convince them to forgive buy getting them a large dark roast and Boston Cream . Wait that costs $5.86...mayve not. read more

Our family has been a patient of Dr MacDonald's for many years, and have been extremely pleased with how she and others in the practice have handled some challenging situations over the years. Yesterday, a quick diagnosis using new technology, an immediate referral to a surgical specialist, and some wonderful bedside manner prompted me to post this review. I have been going to Nashua Eye for over 20 years. I have always been pleased with the personnel and service. Dr. Riddle was excellent with my young daughter when she had other medical issues that affected her eyes. Recently, Dr. Blake recently worked with me to correct my cataracts. I appreciated that he actually called me at home to answer some of my questions after our first appointment. Where my vision was worse than 20/150 it is now better than 20/20 for distance, and I only need readers for closer work. Also, I called the office multiple times with questions and concerns, and the staff answering the phone were always very knowledgeable , pleasant and helpful. read more

I do not understand the negative reviews. I have been a patient of Dr. Lasky for more than 30 years. Just a few years ago he diagnosed the very beginning of Macular Degeneration. The changes were so slight many doctors might well have missed it, but his expertise, experience, and professionalism paid off in catching it early. I have been under treatment for it ever since, and my condition is stable; little or no progression. I have never seen anything negative in the way of conduct or attitude with any of the staff. I am mystified by these complaints. Perhaps someone was having a bad day. read more

The optical department is a disgrace. Sold my wife frames that they knew were junk. Twice, within a few months, the frames snapped while wearing them, causing the lenses to pop out. When she returned the second time to have them fixed, they told her there was nothing they could do this time, that they're no longer carrying that brand because they had too many issues with them breaking. So basically, they sold her shoddy frames that they knew were junk and now we're out $$$ and left to buy a whole new frame and lenses because they can't reuse the existing lenses. Our family, who all wear glasses, will gladly take our business elsewhere from now on. Shame on you! If George Prevost were still alive, he would never have allowed this to happen. This was my worst experience as a customer the areas were you buy glasses people are rud I had a bad impression my brand new glasses were Crocket and manager try to convince me that it was not , finally he agree to replace it and when I pick it up I had a scratch exactly in the middle of my lens , when I complain about he said it it your problem you did not purchase a warranty ,but it was their fault when they cut the old lens to fit into the new glasses they scratch it. I called ahead to say I would be 10 mins late and asked if that was ok. The girl who answered said if it's 15 mins late I would have to reschedule. I arrived 9 mins later and the girl told me she moved someone else into my appt and I had to reschedule. I said I wasn't free for 2 weeks and I really wanted to be seen. I mentioned that I called ahead and was told to be there within 15 mins and I arrived in 9. I told her I could wait to be seen after the current appt and after a call or two to the back office they agreed. Just a bit strange when I called ahead. I had seen the other reviews but needed to get my eyes checked. Rating 2 stars for front desk issue and 5 for the appt. The appt was fine, the dr was nice and I liked the selection of glasses and got a pair. read more

I would give the doctors and technicians 5 stars (I have seen Drs. MacDonald and Helfman), but the office staff is bad enough to remove a couple stars. Some of the office staff is nice, but ever since they did the huge remodel, there have been a few really rude people there, both behind the desk and in the eyewear section. One made fun of the way my name was spelled to my face (also, it is not spelled in an unusual way at all), another rolled her eyes at me when I was scheduling a follow up appointment at the doctor's request because she didn't think I should schedule it so soon (even though that was exactly what the doctor said AND wrote down). A few times I have gotten an attitude like I was bothering the desk staff when I stopped by to pick up contact lenses or schedule an appointment. Sorry I was trying to give you business, I guess? I mean, really? I don't understand how the doctors and actual technicians/assistants can be so warm, friendly, and competent while the office staff can be so rude and off-putting. Maybe some of the office staff are relatives of the doctors or something? I can't imagine keeping a customer-facing job with that kind of attitude unless there's some nepotism involved. That is just speculation. That said, if you call to make an appointment and are treated like garbage, don't let that affect your opinion of the doctors. The doctors are great -- the best I've ever had, actually, which is why I keep going. If they were anything less than stellar, I'd never suffer being treated like crap. I also won't say anything to the doctors, because they MUST be someone's favorite daughter or granddaughter or niece or something -- there is no way that much rudeness and incompetence would be tolerated otherwise. read more

Don't know these reviews are so negative. Go check the Google reviews and you'll get a more accurate picture. I've been seeing Dr Jagatic for a few years now. She, the front desk staff, the assistant, the opticians - they're all very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Far better care than I used to get at the big name place up the highway. I have family members who see other doctors there and they have the same good experience. I'd recommend Focused Eye Care for anyone in need of eye care. I'll admit the frames and lenses are little on the expensive side but you can get those anywhere. It's the testing and treatment that's important. read more

People there are very nice. The doctor is very nice. However their pricing set up is not so nice. To save money, I brought in glasses that I own and just have the lenses replaced. It's actually costing me more to do that than it would if I bought new frames and got a discount. What is wrong with that picture!!! In addition I was charged a $70 contact lens fitting fee. Had I known this was going to be charged to me, I would've put that money toward the purchase of new contact lenses. I know how to put contacts in my eyes. Very disappointed!!! read more

Saw Dr. Sarah Jagatic and either she wrote my prescription incorrectly or the office transcribed it wrong but when I received my glasses I could not see out of them at all! Compared with my previous prescription from another doctor and Focus Eye had really screwed up. What a waste of time and money! Total incompetence and I would not trust them with anything especially the care of my eyes! read more

My last eye appointment was discouraging enough for me to finally jump ship from this place. I told the doctor of a new development with my eyesight (beyond near or far sighted issues). The doctor said "that's a tough one" and sent me on my way. That was the extent of his interest in my new vision issue. No referral , no recommendation on what to do about it. I'm now being treated by an ophthalmologist at a different practice and I'm on the road to improved vision. read more

I recently underwent cataract surgery for both eyes. My doctor at Nashua Family Eye Care, Dr. Timothy Blake, provided the consultation before the surgery, performed the cataract surgery, and met with me twice for post-procedural follow-up. I have been very pleased with Dr. Blake's work: he listens attentively and is thoughtful with responses to my questions. I feel he was especially effective when, after I had chosen the option for nearsightedness, Dr. Blake carefully suggested that I reconsider various aspects of my life style -- levels of physical activity, detailed work with my eyes, etc. Now, nearly a month after both surgeries, I am very pleased with his suggestion and professionalism. read more

Dr MacDonald was referred to my husband and I by my daughter who is a new patient. Se got her exam, contacts and glasses for her family of 4 and had a great experience. My husband went in and got his eye exam, eye glasses and sunglasses and had an equally pleasant experience with the staff that day and was very impressed with Dr MacDonald as well. It's been 2 weeks now and my husband has not been able to pick up his glasses as he keeps getting conflicting reports that they were either just sent out a few days ago to they were sent out 2 weeks ago. When he asked for an explanation, there was none. When my husband asked to speak to a supervisor, Robin the supervisor informed him with attitude that she was very busy, doing a whole 3 things at once and that she would call the insurance company when she gets the chance. Our insurance company is stellar and has no involvement in the issue of the missing order and I have to say, if I treated a customer like that with the attitude that they were less than a priority, I would most likely be looking for a new job. As a professional supervisor in charge of the patient service of a reputable company, with the ongoing reputation of the doctors at stake, I would expect this would be a consideration of the utmost importance to Robin and that she would would try to be more professional to the doctor's customers. I was about to schedule my new patient exam and order my eye glasses and had decided that no way was I going to give my business to a company so inadequate when Dr MacDonald made a personal call to my husband. This doctor did what Robin should have and was the personable professional anyone would expect in a situation such as this. I have decided to make my appointment with Dr Macdonald but I sincerely hope that Robin is on her best behavior..... read more

I give three stars because this review is more about the eye glass section then the eye care. The front desk staff and doctors are very nice. Most of the eyewear techs are good and for the most part friendly, that is except one! Her name is Robin and she can be the rudest, impolite and disrespectful person I have ever met. She has no patience and no problem making it obvious. If you take too long looking for glasses she will walk away and help some one else. For a place as professional as this I would expect a lot more from their employees. read more

After a year and some dissatisfaction, I realized that it's worth the 35-mile trip to obtain outstanding eye care, so I returned to Dr. Helfman. Worst customer service ever. Not only are they rude and snobby but they lie about getting back to you. We have waited 6 plus weeks for a pair of glasses. I call to find out when they are coming for my 6 year old who is anxious about even having them and they say "oh yup they just finished at the lab and they shipped today". " they should take a few day's to get here we will call Tuesday when they are in" no call. I call to Check in get the run around. Call the next day they "drop the call". New phone system. Which is a crock of crap. Then call the next day same thing let me transfer you they say. Then sure enough "call drops" no call back for days. Following week call back they say " ohh yeah. They should be shipping out tomorrow and be in on Tuesday!" Umm ok so either they lied the first time or they are now. I call back and they drop the call again.... I call right back tell them about the situation they say oh I think your mistaken. Oh really?! Your calling me a lier?! Hmm yeah I would say customer service is terrible is an understatement. I will never return and I will tell the 100s of clients I see yearly as a hairdresser about the terrible customer service. Oh yes one more thing. The person who is handling my situation is there office manager. So let's just say there is no room for improvement. Terrible place terrible people terrible service thumbs down. read more

Optometrist Kelly MacDonald and optician Lois from Drs. Helfman, Lasky and Associates solved a problem I had finding progressive bi-focals that didn't give me "tunnel vision" with dizzying peripheral vision. After 4 pairs of dizzying glasses from other practices, Lois determined that my eyes prefer lenses where the entire upper half of the lenses are for distance vision, with the bottom half accommodating intermediate and near vision. This unusual approach minimized the un-focused distance peripheral vision that caused me so much dizziness that I was unable to wear a new prescription and had to stick with my old glasses (old prescription) for years. I can't say my new glasses are perfect- if they can make lenses for the Hubble, why can't anyone make lenses without peripheral cloudiness?- but I can see! Many thanks to them both!!! read more

If you are looking for an eye doctor, I would highly recommend Drs Helfman, Lasky and Associates. My family has been going there for over 8 years now. We started when my son was 3, when we were told he needed glasses. Within a few years, his eye sight actually improved a little with the patching and software program they recommended to us. All of their doctors are extremely thorough in their exams and explanations. Staff is friendly, practice is very clean, and never a wait. I recommend all of the doctors there, especially Dr. MacDonald for children. read more

I recently visited this eye office and from the welcoming front desk to the awesome Doctor Lasky it was a pleasurable experience. They made my trip easy going with no pressure.
