Last time I was here, it was shortly after businesses opened after Covid closures. I was required to wear a mask then, and obviously complied because every business and medical office was requiring them. Made getting an eye exam extremely difficult -- lenses during the exam kept getting fogged up, then wiped, then fogged up again until finally the doctor decided that I should probably take off my mask so I could actually SEE and complete the exam to get an accurate prescription. Well, that was then . . . And this is NOW. You are STILL required to wear a face mask here, even though the CDC no longer recommends them and every medical office I've been to in the last year has dropped that requirement. Not here, though -- if you don't wear a mask, you're not getting an eye exam. Even though I explained about my prior experience (the fogging, the wiping, the fogging again and the eventual removal of the mask), I was told that "we require you to wear a mask throughout the entire exam." See ya! Made an appointment with a different vision center so I can actually get my eyes checked without all the nonsense!

I was taken aback having never experienced this protocol before. Usually, insurance information is taken upon arrival and certainly if there is a protocol to take insurance information before arrival there isn't a threat of my visit being cancelled. #cattlemanagement #noCUSTOMERservice This immediately let me know that this was not a place that put customer service as a priority. I arrived at check-in, was seated and waited on the young lady to come and get my preliminary exams completed. She was distracted by keekeeing with her good girlfriends... I mean this really threw me for a loop. I thought I was being punked... I was sitting up there bare-faced half blind with my blurry vision. She got my glasses in her hand and she chit chatting catching up with her friends... All I could do was say WOW.. shake my head and patiently wait on her to finish her conversation. She wiped down the areas with alcohol that I would place my face on to examine my eyes. She didnt allow the areas to dry down before she instructed me to place my face on the machine. She took me into the other room. The visit went accordingly - doctor came in examined me, discussed implications and options, and concluded my visit. Immediately after I left my face started to burn and blister. I called back on Monday and sent over pictures of my injury. The office manager said that I wasn't injured and that my blisters looked liked pimples. No accountability, no accommodation nothing... This place needs to be shut down or the optometrist needs to find better office managers and technicians. I've been wearing glasses since I was two. Never in my life have I ever experienced a visit like this before. I'm horrified at the way I was treated. The best thing I can say about this visit is that I discovered a new allergy. I'm allergic to direct contact alcohol on face.

I found Dr. Wellington on Yelp, even though he had no reviews, I decided to call because his website mentioned foreign objects in eye and eye injuries. I called on Friday hoping to get an appointment on Mon. He is actually open on Sat. and though receptionist first said they had no openings, got me in since it was an eye problem. I was in and out quick and easy. The staff and Dr. were very friendly and I was relieved to find that I did not have something in my eye, but a slight eye infection for which he prescribed drops. Yes, I understand we all have opinions, and obviously, this review is not for heterosexual couples. My company is progressive enough to cover my domestic partner and the children of my domestic partner. I took my two kiddos and partner in for an eye exam. They all have different last names than me. The doctor must have noticed that because when he took our 14-year-old daughter back, he started questioning her about the relationship and who the mom was. Who I was in relation to her. It was just a very awkward conversation to have with any patient. Let alone a 14-year-old girl. I get people committing insurance fraud. But, call my insurance company after the visit. Don't question a young girl. Yes, I took into consideration that my 14-year-old could have been dramatic. But she has never said anything to this degree about any other appointments or doctor visits we all attend. Again, the front desk staff is great, and again, I'm sure "normal" families have more than a great experience here. This review isn't for the "normal" families.

So I did not want to purchase, I wanted to try another prescription. The manager said that if I wanted to try another prescription, I had to pay for another exam. The doctor gave me the impression that I could not get better correction; she was very pushy and tried to discourage me from trying more prescriptions. So I felt trapped and accepted the contacts (this, I should not have done. I felt very helpless. I should have walked away.) But then, when my spouse went to pick them up, they gave me the wrong prescription! At this point, I lost trust and wanted to go somewhere else. So, I asked for a refund on the lenses. The lenses were unopened and unused. They said they would give me the other set of lenses, but would not give me a refund. In the end I had to go to another doctor, (Look Eye Care) pay out of pocket for another exam, and pay out of pocket for contact lenses (which give me complete correction, which the doctor at MEC said was not possible.) This was very expensive. I went to the Rice Village location for years, and always had good experiences. I only switched to the Oak Forest because my doctor in Rice Village moved away. I sincerely regret ever visiting this location. I am out hundreds of dollars for contact lenses I cannot use.
