I was connecting through the Dallas airport the other day, when my long flight suffered multiple delays due to who in tarnation knows for whatever reason?!? Normally, I avoid overpriced airport establishments for grub and grog but desperate times call for desperate measures, The Flying Saucer space is impossible to miss. Several impressive stories tall, wide open, modern, clean, shiny, with an inviting vibe. Sort of similar to a disneyland feeling, if you catch my drift. I confidently belly up to the bar on the ground floor, drop onto a comfortable stool and check out an impressive list of assorted brews and purview a brief spartan menu of food offerings. Quickly ordering up a pint of lager and burger from a brusque & somewhat surly barmaid. Literally moments later, the drink and food appear in front of me. Ahhhh, the culinary nightmare begins. To be candid, the hamburger was (at best) dry, tired and listless. Two thin slices of mealy tomato & a wilted lettuce leaf did their very best to put lipstick on the pig, but failed. Some secret sauce, onion, juice, cheese surely might have helped this sad sandwich's lost cause. For a quick minute I thought I was in a SNL skit... but alas, that was not the case. Ordered a jalapeño cheeseburger from them with an aioli on top. Burger came out with half a thing of fries, no aioli (or sauce at all) and NO jalapeños. Sent it back and they added pickled jalapeños but were out of the sauce. Offered me ketchup instead. If I didn't have to get on a flight I would've just sent it back but was too hungry. Can't charge $24 for a burger and not even have the stuff to make the burger! I told the manager and he just said sorry. read more

Paid $20 for one of the worst burgers I've ever had. The onion was literally thicker than the dry, paper-thin patty. Everything was carelessly thrown onto the tray, and the burger completely fell apart before I could even eat it. For $20, this was honestly embarrassing. Save your money. read more

Not a great experience. There were 3 guys working - 2 behind the bar and 1 running tables. Sat ourselves and it took a bit to be acknowledged, and he never said his name, asked how we were, etc. The beers took a while, and we never got the waters we asked for. The food also wasn't great - my fish tacos were bland and stale. The tortillas were flaking apart and there fish was dry. My man's burger was also stale, cold and dried out. Our server disappeared to watch TV after dropping the food, so I had to ask someone else for sauces. One of the bartender's handed us a mostly empty, watered down Tabasco bottle without a lid. He seemed bothered when we asked for tartar sauce instead. Waiter just came by to pick up plates and drop the check - didn't ask if we wanted another drink or say anything else. The location was very busy when we stopped in. There may have been seating upstairs, but we didn't check. We had a long layover and weren't in a hurry, so we decided to stay downstairs. Our server took a bit to get to us, but she was very attentive once she did. I ordered nachos and my bf ordered the Duke burger. I had a bite of the Duke burger and wished I'd ordered it for myself. Both were NASTY! The pizza wasn't done and super doughy. David was at the bar when I approached him, sat the pizza down and veggie words left my mouth, he stated abruptly, "I can't help you. " Words hadn't even left my mouth. I was stunned. I asked to speak to a manager, Annalise and asked for my refund. She said she would do it the next day and apologized for David's behavior. Came for breakfast prior to my flight as my original flight from the night before was cancelled. Groggy and tired after a brief sleep, so I treated myself to a sit down breakfast. I ordered the American breakfast - 2eggs (sunny side), hash browns, bacon, sausage, toast with a coffee. This was airport prices but a well done breakfast! Hash browns were perfectly crispy, sausage was high quality, eggs were nice and soft, and the coffee was good. I would have liked real milk or cream instead of coffee mate, but a solid cup of Joe, nonetheless. I didn't have the pancakes, but saw them and they looked really fluffy and enticing. Arrived at 8pm on a Tuesday evening. There were lots of dirty tables and I chose a clean spot. I was asked nicely by a server to move to a smaller spot since I was dining alone. Due to this, the server had to clean a table off to accommodate. The place was not busy. I ordered the saucer burger and fries. Simple. Fries were cold. You couldn't feel any heat off them. I decided not to say anything and just deal with it. Then I took the first bite of the burger and it was red in the middle. Not pink. Red. And it wasn't warm...I asked the server to have them heat it up and she stated thr kitchen had closed but she'd check out what she could do. She returned with a new burger. I cut it straight down the middle to check it out and still RED. At this point, I asked what temp they cooked it to and she stated, 'I told them to burn it'. Well, they didn't. She also said they pre-cook the burgers and then heat them on the grill because it's the airport and they've got to churn out the food quickly. I got my meal comped but the quality was garbage. They don't cook the meat thoroughly and that's a food safety concern--especially for those with compromised immune systems, age, etc. Even more so when it's factory farmed meat that could have contamination. If this were NOT an airport bar this review would be 3-stars, but I'm a little more generous in airports given their constraints. Overall, food came out fast and the burgers were decent. The burgers won't send you home thinking about them, but they're good "get the job done" burgers. In other words, they had flavor, appeared to be fresh, and came out quickly. Another table got the chicken tenders and they looked a little dry, so I think the burgers are the better way to go. Friendly (albeit awkward) waiter that was attentive and got us in and out in time for our connecting flight. Remember: airport dining isn't meant to be stellar, but this place does a decent job! I've been the the Flying Saucer in Fort Worth and I'd say this is a fairly good truncated version (especially considering it's in DFW airport). Honestly, expectations for airport food is low for me, so I'd say this hits my main requirements: short wait time, fast service, and decent food. We had no wait at all to get a table, which was great especially since we were flying around lunch. Service was very fast: we must've got our food within 15 minutes of ordering. There are plenty of beer options, even some of my favorite NA beers. The food was okay. It was definitely edible, just was missing a few things that would have made some big differences for me. I ordered the fish tacos. The dish was overall decent, just seriously lacking in salt. The cod was fried really well: crunchy and moist interior. It just really didn't have any flavor. The pickled cabbage on top even didn't seem to have much salt. Just adding a bit of salt would elevate this dish for me.
