Holy Philly!! These guys sure know what they're doing with cheesesteak! I've been twice now, the first time I got the provolone wit & this time I got the whiz wit. The "wit" part means with onions, but there is a "witout" option for them, to just get meat and cheese. I also tried their new crab fries, which were pretty good, but the philly was really what I was after! Both Philly's I tried are magically delicious but HOLY WHIZ THAT WHIZ WAS GOOD! Absolutely the best Philly cheesesteak I've ever had. My whole family loves cheesesteak and this has definitely raised the bar, I don't see us getting Philly's from anywhere else again! While there aren't a ton of good locally owned restaurants, Flyby Philly's has flew itself right to the top of the list. It's a great place to eat and a great local to support, how could it get any better than that? The owner is extremely nice & you can tell he loves what he does and is so passionate about food and giving people the real Philly experience. I love hearing all the ideas and seeing everything come together. I'm glad to watch this business grow even further & cant wait to see how awesome the inside is when they get to open their dining room! Our family have been fans of Fly By Phillys for a long time dating back to the old location on Magnolia St. We were talking with owner Blake Kerivel on a recent visit and mentioned we'd be vacationing in Philadelphia in November. He recommended some cheesesteak places to try along with other things to do while there. He also challenged us to compare his restaurant to some of those in Philly when we returned. We finally got a chance to do that this past week. First, the three places in Philadelphia we visited were Jim's South St on South St, Sonny's Famous Steaks on Market St and Delco's inside the Wells Fargo Center. Jim's was clearly the best. They were shaving and grilling Ribeye steaks in front of you after you ordered. The steak was tender, perfectly cooked and plentiful. The cheeses were the perfect amount whether it was Provolone, American or Whiz. Other ingredients like onions and mushrooms were done to perfection and surrounded by a relatively soft but substantial roll that was also lightly grilled. Best cheesesteak ever!! Sonny's Famous Steaks was similar, but the steak was a bit more coarsely chopped and not quite as tender. Cheese and ingredients were also done to perfection and plentiful. Roll was not as soft but still very good. Delco's was the largest of the sandwiches by a good margin but the steak was coarse, had gristle mixed in and it was not all that tasty. It reminded me of a big Subway sandwich. Stick to the Crab Fries and other entrees if you're at the Wells Fargo Center for a Sixers or Flyers game. Now for our visit this past week to Fly By Phillys at 2205 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, FL 32301. (850) 404-9928. We visited on a Whizful Wednesday where sandwiches ordered with Whiz ( Cheese Whiz by Kraft) are discounted. We shared an order of Amoroso Crunch as an appetizer. It consists of the fresh Amoroso bread from Philly (which is used on all sandwiches) beer battered and deep fried to a crispy outside and soft, tender inside with Red Gravy ( marinara) or Pub Cheese to dip it into. Fantastic taste and texture. They also offer Crab Crinkles which are a version of the famous Philly dish Crab Fries (think French fries with Old Bay seasoning) made famous by Chickie's and Pete's. They are very good but we did not have them on this visit. I ordered half sandwiches of my two FBP faves, Whiz Wit add mushrooms and Provi Wit add mushrooms and jalapenos. Wit is Philadelphian for With Onions. Widdout is Without Onions. My wife ordered her favorite American Widdout with extra cheese. Our son ordered Whiz Widdout. Cheeses offered are American, Provolone, Whiz and Beer Cheese. All our sandwiches were outstanding and compared most favorably to Jim's South St. that we had in Philly. The ribeye steak was finely chopped, the roll was soft, and the cheese was plentiful. Add ons were also perfectly done as well. To finish the meal, we had Ryder's (a Philly company) Water ( pronounced Wodder) Ice, in Seminole (Cherry/Pineapple), Rattler (Mango/Green Apple) and grape flavors. They also carry several other flavors. This seemed to be a mix of a snow cone and ice cream without the dairy. Very tasty and enough of a portion to take plenty home. All in all, it was a great meal from beginning to end with an authentic Philly feel. Their new location is great already, offering indoor and outdoor seating, but will be expanding soon to offer even more food and beverage options. In closing, if you want a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich that is as authentic and delicious as any offered in Philadelphia itself in a Philly themed restaurant here in Tallahassee, Florida, head directly to Fly By Phillys on the Parkway across from Target Monday through Saturday from 10:30am til 8pm. Was heading to Best Buy today and as I turned onto Magnolia I saw the sign. "Philly's"! Being from Pennsylvania it's hard to turn down a great cheesesteak. I looked the place up online and my tastebuds were dripping. Rainy day, I pulled into the parking lot. It took me a few minutes to figure out what's next. There's a window signed "pickup and carry out orders", another window with a "honk for service" sign. I registered on the website and then placed and paid for my order online. Two cheesesteaks - one with Wiz and one with provolone and mushrooms. Server brought the order to my car as promised. It's a 25 mile drive home, texted my wife that Philly Cheesesteaks were on the way. They smelled great. I thought I could make the 30 minute drive without getting into the bag. Wrong! Made it about half way and couldn't resist the sandwiches calling my name. Both sandwiches have authentic Philly cheesesteak fillings, cooked nicely with onions and cheeses. The bread - not so wonderful. Doesn't resemble the crusty Philly hoagie rolls I'm accustomed to getting on a cheesesteak. Doubt I'll be back unless the bread upgrades. Being a south Philly area native I have been looking for a place just like this!! I've been to Pat's Steaks in Philly and this place is just as great!! This is the real deal Philly cheesesteak!! The cheesesteak was AMAZING!! The way the wiz is all through the steak and drippy was great!! The rolls were AMAZING!! I was excited when I saw this fine establishment, who doesn't love meat smothered in cheese but once I saw cheese whiz I knew this was the real deal! Super Bowl 52 fries were great smothered with what you'd expect to find on a philly PLUS bacon. Based on Tallahassee Foodies group recommendations, I had to try these guys. They recently opened which was very brave during a pandemic. The sandwich was spot on with hearty portions. I couldn't find the cheese on my Provi Wit. There was lots of meat and a few onions. The bread was fresh.
