It's been exactly one year since I joined PBG and I have been so happy that I continued my…read moremembership despite quarantine! When I first joined, I wasn't overly sure that barre was for me, particularly since I was someone who was used to higher impact workouts and am extremely inflexible. After the first class, I was still honestly unsure if I wanted to continue, but stuck it out a week, then a few weeks, and here I am at a year and over 100 classes! First, I want to say that the instructors and staff have all been extremely positive, friendly, and helpful since I started. Like I mentioned, I am pretty inflexible, so adjustments to form and modifications are always helpful. During the in studio classes, I always felt that I was getting proper attention and motivation (even though it was SO hard)! Since we've been quarantining, I feel like the staff has really accommodated our ever changing environment to the better. Working downtown before did not allow me to take as many classes as I wanted, but now we're in a completely different environment. The PBG team quickly acted and created a Facebook group where they host (and save) live classes, which have been the highlight of most of my days usually spent glued to a desk and computer at home. Somehow, the instructors still manage to be just as motivating and personal on screen; they often call out cues and names when we need it most! Also, when the weather was nice, they hosted socially distanced outdoor classes, which were just as difficult and motivating as in studio! To me, the team seems extremely resilient to our changing conditions. They keep things exciting with challenges (which have been free for members, different from other places I've tried!), virtual events, partner events, and the ever constant updates on how things are going. I'm excited to see what this next year brings!

This studio is more than a workout space; it's a community built on strength, grace, and connection. I feel grateful to call Pure Barre Glenview my fitness home. I've been attending PT with Jen for about a month now and this is by far the best PT experience I…read morehave had! Previously I had been to one of the larger places where you're in a room with other people and you may or may not have your actual PT, it might be their assistant. Reform is completely the opposite and I have enjoyed every minute of it! Jen is amazing and is addressing other areas of concern in addition to my knee. In just a few weeks, I feel so much stronger and motivated to continue to work outside of my appointments as well. You're working one on one, so you're not in a giant room with other people who are all doing PT at the same time. It's so personalized and targeted to what's going to help you the most. I'll also say I love the online booking system. It's super easy and if I need to make and adjustment, I can. I look forward to finishing my appointments with Jen and it's been so nice to not deal with pain in my knee every day!

What can I say about Club Pilates other than "I love it!"…read more After having my third child, I lost a lot of strength in my core and developed issues with my lower back. I was introduced to Pilates through physical therapy and quickly found that I loved it more than any other type of exercise I had tried before. So when I heard Club Pilates Glenview was opening (two years ago), I quickly signed up. The class sizes are small due in part to there being only 12 reformers, the front staff greet you by name when you enter and the instructors are helpful in modifying exercises due to injuries if needed. It's nothing like a big box gym. I get a full body workout in less than an hour using primarily the Pilates Reformer, but also the TRX, springboard, and incorporating barre and mat exercises as well, all while staying in my little area that is 6' away from the next person. As far as COVID safety is concerned, wearing a mask during class is mandatory and perfectly comfortable while working out thanks in part to the large ceiling fans that help keep the air circulating. Also, after every class (even before COVID) the instructor gives out plenty of sanitizing wipes to wipe off everything that was used at your station. I'm not familiar with the morning or afternoon instructors because the evening classes are where the party's at. Monday-Thursday, Mary Ellen and Mark are my escape from kids, life and all the stress that come from both. I don't normally do weekend classes but if either one of them are on the schedule I try to be there also. Did I mention I have three children...lol. During those 50 minutes I'm focusing on nothing but getting stronger, all while jamming out to various playlists they've created. I can't decide if I like disco or 80's more...I try to go 4 to 5 times a week because I miss it if I don't and I'm so much stronger now because of it.

I had an extremely frustrating experience at this Club Pilates location. I booked my class through…read moreClassPass several days in advance and received a confirmation. Then, Club Pilates canceled my reservation only about an hour before class. I didn't see the email because I was already getting ready and on my way to the studio, so I arrived expecting to take the class. When I got there, I was told I wasn't on the roster by who I believe was the instructor, Kelly Moore, who was also working the front desk. What made the experience even worse was her attitude. Instead of trying to understand what happened or help find a solution, she repeatedly asked whether I was at the correct location in a condescending tone, even after I showed her my ClassPass confirmation multiple times clearly displaying the correct studio, date, and time. Rather than acknowledging that Club Pilates had canceled my reservation, she made me feel as though I had somehow made the mistake. It truly seemed like she canceled my reservation on purpose to make space for others. Not once did anyone apologize for the inconvenience or take responsibility for the last-minute cancellation. I wasted my time driving to the studio only to be turned away because of an issue that was completely outside of my control. If you partner with ClassPass (which is a choice btw), you need a reliable reservation system and staff who know how to handle these situations professionally. Canceling a reservation only an hour before class with virtually no notice, then making the customer feel like they're at fault, is unacceptable.

I hadn't done yoga since before the pandemic and wanted to do hot yoga. Somehow I stumbled upon a…read morefree class to The Hot Room and decided to take advantage of it. It was really easy to book a class and I thoroughly enjoyed it with Joseph. I downloaded the app and have found it easy to navigate. I love that it keeps your schedule after reserving classes. The things I didn't like are that there are not different levels, and there are no descriptions of the different classes on the app. After my free class they had a promotion for all the classes you can take in two weeks for $59. Without understanding all of the differences or knowing the instructors (some places have profiles on their websites), I booked several classes that worked with my schedule not knowing the differences, and definitely enjoyed two of my three classes so far. I appreciate the kindness of all of the instructors when they realize that someone is new, and the follow-up asking for feedback is nice as well. (I also received text asking how things were going and if I had any questions, yet when I wrote back with a question I never got a response.) A lot of regulars go here, which is encouraging as well. All ages too! I was feeling old but there are quite a few seniors, which made me feel comfortable with being somewhat out of practice. I have enjoyed most of the instructors who encouraged us to go at our own pace and don't single people out or embarrass anyone as some places do. I have come out drenching with sweat but feeling great! I have several classes to go so we'll see if I've found a new yoga home.

Update: There's…read morestill a lot to like here, but the studio has kind of been eroding since I last reviewed it two years ago. First the good news: they seem to have repaired what was a deeply unreliable and often broken furnace/humidifier -- I was frustrated by going to "The Hot Room" only to find it "The Warm Room" or even "The Cool Room." That said, the disappointing: the old sense of community at this studio is largely gone -- often feels more like a mid-range gym where you show up, do your workout, and leave. Little amenities that used to be there are now gone without explanation. Inflation? Seems as though there are fewer classes than there once were, but that may be perception rather than reality. I especially miss the "open studio" times that enabled one to come in and "practice one's practice" on one's own schedule. Maybe that was just a covid thing? Regardless, it's something that was once included that is no longer there. There has been a surprising amount of turnover in management, staff, and instructors. Fortunately, the best Inferno Pilates instructor has hung around through this, and the new yoga team is very solid. For the most part, the turnover doesn't necessarily bother me from a practice standpoint, but it does make me wonder why people keep leaving... Finally, there used to be a great end-of-week Friday afternoon 26/2 class -- with music. A fun tradition, and a great way to kick off the weekend. Despite repeated assurances from the owner that it would be reinstated, it hasn't been. Again, schedules and classes change and that's understandable -- it's unkept promises that are concerning. So, it used to rock. It's just ok now...but unless you want a long drive, it's kind of the only game in town. PS -- Their cancellation policy is kind of BS. It's one thing to charge no-shows if a class is full and your no-show keeps someone else out. But with a well-managed wait list (which they have) and classes that usually AREN'T full, charging for cancellations within (what I think is now) 6 hours (used to be 12?) is kind of a lame money grab. Bad karma.
