This is our home gym. Sure it's not cheap but you get what you put into it. My wife, my son and I have been members for over 2 years. Only recently did our fees go up but again it's worth being a member if you go enough and take advantage of any of their other amenities like their daycare, the indoor and outdoor pools. We have heard there's a waiting list and believe it as it does get crowded at times but not super crowded. I have been to several other Lifetime properties in the Chicagoland area and this is in my top 5 locations. The staff is great as well as the trainers that work there. You can tell business is good when you rarely see a trainer solo. Instead they are working with clients, training away. I do find it strange that the GM trains some people as he's taking away from his other trainers. The folks at the Cafe are wonderful and friendly as well. Let's not forget about the workers at the Daycare! Doreen, Wilma and their crew all work their tail off taking care of the babies, toddlers and kids. God bless em. Beautiful locker room with showers, sauna, and even a hot tub :) I love their variety in classes- yoga studios are beautiful and teachers are amazing... same goes for spinning classes! Wow, what a disappointment for a $260/mo Signature club! Where do I start? There have been a few low-blows at this club that have been complete embarrassments to it. Just look at what the owner commented on my post - they're proud of what I've experienced! First off, when Northbrook had a water outage, this location, instead of providing free water to its customers, tried to persuade them to purchase their $5 aluminum water bottles! How hard is it to get a few cases of water from Costco?? The personal trainers here are entitled d-bags. The reason we pay so much for a Signature club is for amenities - i.e. massage guns! Well, if a trainer hasn't charged their massage gun, apparently they're allowed to come up to you while you're using it and demand you forfeit it to them on the spot. Has happened to me a few times! Additionally, they love to hover near machines and take them. They don't even wipe them off when their clients are done. Gross and unprofessional! I've had a locker break on me, and when the front desk sent someone to fix it, nobody came. It took 10 minutes of waiting to realize I had to walk around LifeTime for someone who could actually fix it. Broken machines that take awhile to fix, water fountains that go out, and miscellaneous things being serviced add to this amazingggg Signature experience! Yeah, the sauna and steam room are nice, and there are some kind staff members..... But is this club worth $260/mo w/tax, which will cost even more with some BS price increase? Working out at a big gym is like doing temporary incarceration; germs are everywhere, you're sweaty, possibly smelly, and maybe in pain from working out. I just want to do my time and get out. However, I've been to many LT locations including in Coconut Grove, FL, and the Northbrook LT is newer like Coconut grove than other LT other gyms. And the recent renovation makes this place even more pristine. It's very upscale and pricey which means it's less crowded and has lots of equipment not found at other Life Times or gyms. I can't wait for the Evanston location to open. I read all of the bad reviews at this location of how equipment is broken and places are not perfectly clean and how they push you to sign up for memberships. Obviously they are ignorant of other gyms who are way way worse and way more pushy. What they can't complain about is lack of fitness equipment and upper clientele. read more

This is a great club in the suburbs. I was a member for 30+ years at East Bank Club in the city, and that is by far the Premier club in the country. Lifetime Fitness in Northbrook is awesome. After Covid a lot of my friends that were at East Bank are now at Lifetime. The staff is great from the minute you walk in. Heather my yoga teacher is a great instructor, and very friendly to the people that attend her class Cheri, that teaches the best bar fusion even though I would like her to play more country music. But the country music she does play is great. The class is a lot of fun and I've met a lot of nice members there. read more

Beware any city transplants coming from EBC and expecting a similar experience: My wife and I moved to the suburbs from the city and got our hopes up for the new Lifetime in Northbrook. The monthly fee is relative to EBC so we were expecting a similar experience. The building is quite large, and I was surprised that despite how big the building is, how small the actual area to workout is. I prefer to workout alone, and the gym seems more setup for classes. I commonly went during rush hour and found all of the squat racks were taken up by a fitness class. The cardio equipment is so-so. The wipes are hard to find and commonly dried out, so doesn't seem like a lot of people use them. Overall the staff is super nice and accommodating. The sauna is nice, but the overall locker room was subpar; it felt crowded and several times there was a wait to use the shower, and on top of that the soap/shampoo was constantly out which was frustrating. After 3 weeks of going and trying my best to make it work, I had to terminate my membership. There are other gyms in the area that will deliver a far superior experience for that price range. read more

Avoid This Pathetic Business Model - Please Read We decided to stop by the Lifetime Fitness Northbrook location. The building is three stories and bigger than any club in the area. When we went to the front desk, asking to see a tour of the facility we were told there was a "wait list" to get a membership and we had to sign up over the web and when memberships became available, we would receive a call. When we walked out the door, I said immediately this is a pure marketing game trying to make it appear that getting a membership to the club is only given to a "small lucky privileged group". Because I wanted to see a tour of the facility, I decided to fill out the form. Right after I filled it out, I said I am positive we will get a call the very next day. Sure enough a sales person called the very next day and asked "how many people are you considering for membership". When I said myself and my significant other, she came back with "we have not had any memberships open for a long time, but just this morning we have 4 openings". I have to say this is not only pathetic scheme, but I instantly was turned off. I just thought to myself who would possibly fall for this. Prior to even driving to the club to try and get a tour, we did some research of what people were paying for memberships and we had seen prices from $100-160 per person per month which we knew was high considering all the clubs around the north shore. During this initial call I said we would like to come to see a tour of the facility which she was ready to do that day. I imagine most readers would be shocked given how fast the wait list disappeared. I then asked how much the membership would be and she stated $379 a month (for two people). Right then, I decided to end the call knowing full well the game being played here was simple. Quote you a much higher price on the phone to qualify you as a potential lead, get you to the club for a tour, then take us in an office and play the sales game about how they could do a special deal if we signed up that day and quote us a lower price. Not only are these sales tactics revolting, but the idea also that the public would fall for such a cheesy way of trying to get members turned my stomach. It's one thing to build a high-quality club and charge a premium, but the entire wait list scam combined with the sales tactic of trying to radically overcharge or give different rates to different people based on what you think you can get is vile. Suffice to say not only will we not become members, but my hope is this post can help people avoid even taking the first steps to engaging and maybe Lifetime Fitness will see this business model fail and re-evaluate these tactics. Minimally, I hope this post can save you a few hours of wasting time on this pathetic business model. I can imagine once this is posted one of their marketing people will write a response, apologize for my bad experience and try and put on a nice face defending their practices. This gym has gone down hill big time! The water fountain has been broken for months and the water filled runs and runs leaving no cold water and low pressure for the fountain. The bathrooms are always filthy and run out of towels. The cloth gym towels are always gone in the afternoon because the staff isn't keeping them stocked too. Management is not holding staff accountable at all. Lastly the group classes hog most of the treadmills and the trainers will kick you off for one of their classes. This review is for the Lifespa. Finally got to use a service at LifeSpa at Lifetime. I wanted some life and volume back in my hair and booked an appointment with Irene. I'm so glad I went to her. We talked through want I was looking for with layers and face framing long bangs along with a few pictures as reference and she was able to deliver. Great customer service and was able to get in and out in an hour and the shampoo/condition service before the cut was so relaxing. read more

If you have BCBS, you can get a significant discount on membership fees, which might sway your decision on whether to join. There are several perks to this gym. Classes are above average (especially GTX and Alpha!), and class options/times are plentiful, but if you're a swimmer, you might be disappointed. The indoor pool is not clean. There are bandaids/hair ties floating in the water and calcium/dust deposits collecting at the bottom of the pool. Unfortunately, I've cut my swims short several times because I've been grossed out by the state of the pool. The club confirmed they try to vacuum the pool once a week but "they don't always get to it", and unfortunately, it shows. It's surprising, because the club facilities/locker rooms are always very clean. read more

This review is for a massage therapist, Yarek, at the Northbrook location. I met him several years ago at a different location in Skokie. At that time I had very tight muscles and limited mobility. After several massages and one deep tissue massage with him I felt amazing. My range of motion was improved and I was more flexible. It was great. I moved away and returned to Chicago in January. I've had 6 massages at other facilities (Breckinridge, River North, Seattle...). I never felt great after my experiences. Recently, my lower back was very painful and tight. So, I found Yarek in Northbrook again. I live downtown Chicago...I've had 2 massages this month and I feel great again. He's worth the trip! Thank you, Yarek! read more

I was asked to put my name on waitlist online. Then a person called me to give me an appointment, when I went to the gym for my appointmen, I was told there is only one computer in the lobby and to go to the cafe and wait. 15 min later they had me come back to the check in desk to sign up for membership, the front desk check in person asked me for my ID. I asked why am I signing up in the lobby? can I sit down somewhere to discuss membership and review membership and documents before I sign. I was told no this is how they do it. I said I need more information before I sign. can I speak with membership office. I was told not sure if anyone is there. I said this is not what I expected, to which I was told this is what everyone else does. I asked for a different way to sign up. I was told no. I asked for corporate membership office. I was told that I was late and that is why they can't give me tour, when they made me wait. not my fault. so I left with nothing. wasted my time and no membership. Having been a member for a year, I plan to quit my membership and go back to LA Fitness. I joined for the pool, amenities, and classes. Happy with my class instructor (she is awesome). I work during the week so can only attend the classes on weekends. Rude front desk staff in the afternoon (early morning front desk staff has been friendly). Obviously didn't make me feel valued as a member. Triggered me to share my thoughts online. Waste of money. For the extra $150/month, I can bring my own shampoo & towel. I love this club, the staff, and the trainers - especially Tom. He is a skilled and energetic trainer. He really knows the science and intricacies of lifting and is pushing me to get to the next level (which is what I wanted). He spends extra time with me, helps me even when we don't have a session scheduled and checks in with me almost daily. I learn something in every session and am always excited for the next one. The staff in the cafe are also superb and friendly. They always do a great job and put out a great product. read more

Not a good value for the price. Pros:Nice bathrooms, decent facilities (but: no racquetball courts, or full - size basketball court). Cons: We joined because we wanted a place for our kids to go, but the kids class offerings are skimpy. All the good classes for kids fill up super quickly (parents actually queue up on registration day) and they are strict about letting kids participate that are not signed up even if there are absences. I brought this issue to the clubs attention but they did not seem moved. All in all, hard to justify the extra expense when the northbrook ymca is so much cheaper and has better amenities. read more

If East Bank is a 10 then this is a 4 or 5; but it is the best in the North Shore so there's that. Frustratingly the monthly dues for a family of 4 are the same as at EBC but you get way less. Locker rooms have hard floors which is nice and cool in the summer, but they got wet & slushy last winter. Also vs EBC you'll unfortunately see 1/5 the number of locker room attendants cleaning up, and there's no locker room TV lounge either. Cafe is meh, not nearly as good as the Grill at the EBC. Outdoor pool is VERY nice. Parking is easy. No tennis or basketball (but you can play b-ball at Old Orchard which has a fairly decent court). No dedicated area to get any work done either. If you've moved up north and liked the EBC this is your place; but keep your expectations low. read more

Let's make this easy; 1) This might be the cleanest gym/club I've ever been apart of-- staff/trainers spray down equipment on the hour...every hour. Fine, but very easy solution-- STAY HOME and hit up that Peloton bike you haven't used since Christmas of 18'...and wait for Covid-19 to pass (never) or drop your membership (preferred). Either way, don't ruin it for the rest of us who actually "follow the science". 3) You worried about a guy in headphones minding his own business? just trying to get healthy? Nobody has ever liked a tattle-tale, come on "Eliza B", be better than that. 4) A gym/club should be all about positive vibes, making yourself healthier...based on both of your reviews of Lifetime, you are a negative person, a whiner....the one who says "I can't do one more rep"--can't or won't? big difference. Either way, you are obviously negative vibes...so just drop the membership. Positive vibes only here "EB". In fact, we feel your negative energy on the entire 3rd floor when you walk in...and frankly, it's affecting my workout. This is a great club so long as the membership price is within your budget and you are looking for the kind of club they explicity say they are trying to provide--less kid-oriented and more adult-oriented than the other Lifetimes. Like all the good Lifetimes, they have a huge variety of all types of equipment--cardio, weight machines, free weight, etc. So far the crowds haven't been too bad, but since its only been open for about 8 months, maybe that will change. I have a great trainer, Chuck Stineford, who always pushes me to my limit but never further. I don't know how good the other trainers are, they may also be excellent. So, it's not cheap but it's really nice! read more

Love Lifetime. Cleaner and calmer than the Skokie location. Kid's Club is excellent and staffed by nice people. Pool is gorgeous and poolside seating is ample. One critique: the food is not good. For others that moved from the city this new Life Time is as close to East Bank Club as you're going to get. It's a one stop shop for workouts, food, spa, kids activities etc. Unfortunately, I have a lot less time than I did back when I was a member at East Bank Club (thanks to 3 children and a busy job), but those who have hours to spare will find this place heaven. My thoughts after my first month of membership: The good: - Gorgeous brand spankin new facilities that no other Life Time I've seen compares to. - Kids Club: There's something for all ages here- infant area, lots of toddler toys, games, tumbling studio and classes to sign up for. My older ones (6 and 8) have been bored when they have just hung around and haven't actually signed up for activities, but they are fine with it when they are with friends or sign up for the classes. And my newly turned 3 year old is content in the toddler area even though he's technically old enough now for the classes as well. I was hoping my kids would be begging me to take them to the kids club (resulting in more workouts for me), but unfortunately it's been me begging them to go so I can workout. - Lots of classes under one roof: yoga, spinning, weight lifting, kickboxing, werq. They seem to have it all with the exception of a treadmill interval class. My favorites so far include Shred (weight lifting), Strike (kickboxing) & Kettleball. As for favorite teachers I'm liking Erin, Heather, Fronzie and Cindy (loved her classes back in my HP Equinox days) - Swim classes: My youngest has yet to start his class, but I've heard good things...and the price beats all other swim centers in the North Shore. - The spa: I've been happy with my mani and waxing services, but friends have raved about their massages, facials and blowouts. Prices are on par with other salons in the area. The majority of their technicians are very experienced and have been at other Life Time locations for several years. - The diamond level access gives you access to all other locations in the country, including the 2 more kid friendly options nearby (old orchard and vernon hills). It also came in handy when I wanted to workout and swim when in Boca Raton, Florida the past few weeks. The OK: - The lifetime cafe is convenient, but i haven't found anything i love there. My kids keep leaving their kids meals untouched too. I've also yet to see the lifetime cafe app work. - Cardio classes: I've discovered a bunch of weight lifting classes I like (see under "the good"), but haven't found a good cardio class. I've been still going to Shred415 once or twice a week even though I"m paying for lifetime out of necessity for a good cardio workout. - Water machine: always luke warm. Chill it or add an ice machine (i know, now I"m getting high maintenance) - Weekend classes: would love to see some Sat and Sun afternoon classes added to the schedule. Missed the Mark: - Indoor pool may be great for swim classes or laps, but would be great to have an indoor pool for kids to use during the winter. Membership told me it wasn't intended to be as kid friendly as their other local locations, but I'd guess about 95% of the members here have children - Outdoor pool should also have slides for the kiddos, although I do appreciate the shallow area for my youngest - I would have loved a lounge to get work done from on the days I work from home. The cafe is sufficient during slower times of the day, but the few times I've tried to work from there it's been too loud/busy. Overall, thrilled they've made their newest home in Northbrook and enjoying the Life Time lifestyle. read more

BEWARE if you join Lifetime Northbrook! My daughters joined for the summer but we were told we could cancel anytime and be reimbursed for the remaining days of the month we did not use. I think a 30 day cancel policy is ok If they had informed me. But they lied to grab the money and sign us up. Shady, very shady. Customer service is abysmal. THEY DO NOT CARE. Just go there. EVERYTHING there is very nice, clean, modern. If you like some relaxing spa time, there is a spacious salon for you to pamper yourself. I loved this gym -staff are great, facilities clean - but I concur with the commentary on the swimming availability. I had to quit my membership once the swim teams joined - for the $175 price point swimming needs to be an option for me. I will come back though once the swim teams go back to their home pools. I was visiting Family in Winnetka from AZ and went as a guest of my sister-in-law. I was there only to swim laps. At first I was worried since they informed me that it was 1 person to a lane (a good thing) and in the event of too many people it was up to the swimmer if they would be willing to split the lane or circle swim (more of an iffy thing). As it turned out all lanes had swimmers but most were just chatting at then end of their work out and I was invited in immediately. I then had a lane and for most of the time the entire pool to myself. Pool was a bit colder than I'm used to but after a lap not an issue. Water was clean. Locker room clean. Towels in abundance. I will definitely go back given the opportunity read more

I just joined Life Time. The facility has everything, it is clean, great trainers and friendly staff. But if you join be sure to get in writing exactly the bill of goods the salesperson is selling. Bridget was our salesperson. To get the sale we were promised a lot. In actuality Bridget misstated the package. Life Time is not living up to the agreement she made. Very disappointing! As you know, Illinois currently has a mask mandate that includes gyms. This is evidenced by the signs you have posted as you walk into the club and on every floor. So I was shocked to see only a handful of gym members wearing masks. The rest were unmasked, including one of your lead trainers (usually wears a towel on his head with headphones holding it on). I've seen him masked before, so I know he owns one. Also, I've never seen anyone walking around cleaning and trash cans are many times overflowing. I have zero faith that you practice proper protocols as stated on your website. read more

Do not do business with Lifetime Northbrook under any circumstances. We tried several times to cancel during the pandemic and they continued to charge us for an entire year when we had documented proof of us cancelling several times. They were non-apologetic and offered no compensation or refund when we were finally able to cancel. Fast forward to this year. We were interested in rejoining and they refused to give us our rate from when we were members at the start of the club and still offered no consideration for the roughly year and a half we were charged after cancelling without even setting foot in their club. I just joined the new(er) LifeTime as I have moved to Northbrook recently from River North. The staff is very friendly, the classes are great, and it's a very clean, and well maintained gym. They offer kids care while I work out which is a HUGE plus! The locker rooms are great, and especially with the Eucalyptus steam room! It's he perfect end to my workout! I just called to put my membership on hold because IL has implemented mask rules . I do not feel comfortable wearing masks any more because I am vaccinated. I was told I will be charged my dues for the next 30 days. I have been a member of LTF for almost 30 years and I am not trying to quit the club. I would just like to wait out the stupid mask rules of the IL Government. I think is very unfair that I have pay so I will have to delay my activation on the other side to get that money back. It is very sad that their rules are not adjusted because of the covid and dumb Government rules that we have to lower our selves to. read more

You know, I don't normally write reviews unless my experience was either really bad or really good. In this case, the staff at the Northbrook location are very accommodating. ------ Aaron -------- is real nice guy with a vast amount of patience and ability to complete his current duties with a customer before multi-tasking to the next. He's the type of guy that makes you feel positive even when you walk in feelin bummed out about a membership issue or something. I've worked in the service industry for 5+ years and he's got it.
